        As I was reading the latter half of this post, this cutscene music totally just played itself out in my head.

                        First, there is no such thing as international copyright law, there is no such thing as international law period. This is why it's so easy to by copyright materials in China, Roman Polanski fled to France and Charles Ng and AWOL Soldiers tried to hide in Canada.

                        Second, as every beta tester has to agree to a NDA and SE has not lifted that, as evidence by the fact they are not announcing anything, all communication between those under the NDA and SE is privileged. To leak any of that, is a breach of contract. It is breaking civil law in the US and common law in the UK just as much as copyright infringement. SE would also hold all copyrights over any posted communications.

                          Yes, there is. They're called treaties. Like all laws, not all places have them, and like all laws, even places that do have them don't enforce them. That doesn't make them any less legal.

                          Specifically, there is the Berne Convention, to which almost every country is signatory, including the US, where this forum is based, and whose laws we must follow like them or not.

                          Perhaps, but that is a breaking of contract law between the participant and SE. There is no liability to FFXIOnline from publishing it. On the other hand, copyright infringement is very definitely a breaking of laws. While the legality of hosting links is debatable, and probably not an issue, the content of said links definitely is illegal, whereas the content of beta leaks is not illegal in itself.

                          And I hate to tell you this, but copyright law is Criminal law in the US now. DMCA, etc.

                          Three things:

                          One, copyright generally requires some sort of creative effort. Mere communication of facts "The X will be available DD/MM/YYYY" is probably not a copyrightable statement.

                          Two, even if SE does hold a copyright on their communications, this is not a reproduction of that.

                          Three, even if there were a direct reproduction of a copyrighted email SE sent to testers, posting it here would still be protected under fair use, the same way we can quote news stories, update teasers, and patch notes.

                              What was posted by the op was from the email they sent out and from the tester forum BUT he could have just put up something he heard secondhand. So who knows.......and frankly the majority of us couldn't care less. I would have closed this long ago but you seem to be enjoying yourself....
