This is certainly a strong possibility. There's also Guild Wars 2 which is scheduled for release early next year. It makes sense that they'd want to get people playing before that competition hits. As must as people think they're being dicked around SE is still a business, they still need to make money. Releasing 6 months early could easily see an extra couple of million dollars profit for their current financial year.

Six months in terms of personal need - that won't matter. I can wait six more months.

Six months in terms of in-game experience? To put it lightly, everyone that gets into the crafter jobs that late is going to have it that much harder just for being made to wait. Being that they're actual, full-fledged jobs, its going to be harder to profit early on when you have people at max level to compete with. They're going to be able to do all the things you start out doing, possibly with better and more reliable result.

So if you're a blacksmith starting out, it might not be as easy to establish your reputation. Stuff is going to wear and tear this time, so people are going to go to who they know first, I don't expect them to just have an NPC at every turn that can do repairs.

My frustration comes from knowing where some of these gameplay elements are going to go based off other games using the mechanics FFXIV intends to use. I've seen the execution of some of these ideas before, so I would know how to adapt to them quickly, but knowing that doesn't mean much six months later when everyone else does, too.

The PC development as already known to be further ahead than the PS3 development, hence why its already been available to be publicly tested when the PS3 has been kept private.
I seriously doubt its been "known" and the alpha and beta versions are further along - only SE really knows, anything else is anecdotal evidence at best. Also, knowing the problems of the PC version would be knowing the same of the PS3 version - the PS3 beta is smaller and more private because they got most of the feedback from PC users already, so the PS3 beta would just round out PS3-related issues.

If there were enough issues to push it back six months, you'd think they'd invite more people in to iron things out more quickly, rather than persisting with a smaller group.

So I don't think your claim adds up.

The beta test is done at the end of the development, if the PC version is ready to enter a beta testing stage but the PC version isn't then the PC's development is further ahead than the PS3's. SE said some time ago that they were releasing the PC version of the beta before the PS3 version.

Adding more people to participate in beta testing doesn't help fix any issues quicker if issues are already known, its likely to be counter productive since you'll have masses of people reporting the same issues repeatedly. The developers then have even more issues to filter though to get rid of duplicate reports.

So basically, Square-Enix designed the crafting/gathering jobs to be used within the first six months of the game's release and after that they are useless and too hard to play?

I'm not going to help you with this one, as what I said was self-explanatory.

Just think about it realistically rather than reading it literally. Play the potential scenario out in your head.

Crafting is probably one of the 1st things I'm going to do. I'm not getting left in the dust this time, especially with how they've designed guildleve. I'm hoping I won't have to have a dedicated crafting character though as it'd be nice to be able to maintain my own equipment whilst out in the field.

But if needed I will, because I want to max the crafts this time around instead of scrounging for every penny like I did in XI.

I know what you mean Mal, but eventually you're gonna get your Gods gear and Dynamis gear and eventually crafts will not compare to what a rare drop nets you... and..... meh

Really dont want to think about what sorts of problems FFXIV is going to run into later on. Makes me depressed already D:

Oh, but what happens when said gear needs repairs, hmm?

So Ummm... Who is gonna buy the CE version for the PS3 for the items?

I am buying it to play it and for the items. Even though I doubt my pc can run it. Anyone have the Benchmark linked anywhere?

I had originally thought that since I had nothing useful to add to the thread that I would unsubscribe, but the amount of lulz to be had is purely side-splitting.

I can't believe it; Feba was right.. I AM an elitist. Time to see if I can OC my GPU and get to 5500 on the bench.

If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?
