Excitement. And I agree with barbeque... I'm going to have an anxiety attack creating my character because it's going to take all day and subconsciously I'll want to be rushing to get into the game to start playing.

oh trust me, there will be.

Between all the different facial configurations, including multiple eyes, noses, lips and cheeks, the massive amount of hair+color combinations (which increases exponentially when highlights are involved), character size, skin color, chosen race and even the optional bits like the forehead gem and scars, the likeliness of two people having the same exact character are very slim.

Unless they're all trying to make clones of pre-existing characters or are intentionally creating the same face, chances are you won't see any doubles in the game.

I disagree. There are going to be popular looks and people will indeed look the same until the person gets up close in first person and sees they have a mole or their iris is bigger. Then they'll come QQing onto the forums about how there should have been more customization features.

I predict that eyepatches and facial scars will be the running cliche for character creation in FFXIV. I'm hoping SE at least has a variety of them instead of them just being one flavor of the variety you can use to customize the face.

In the last year I've come to learn that when you give people the means to create a character however they like, they will go out of their way to do something similar/easy without realizing it. I'm basing this on games with user-generated content more than character creation, though vana'diel's Census is also rather telling about this.

Will we see lots of white, spikey-haired Miqotes from the Sun tribe in FFXIV? Yep. With eyepatches? Especially so. Named XxYuffiexx? Probably.

I picked Mithra 8b, which is actually rare.

I also noticed no one ever picks the female Hume models with very short hair.

Another thing that will add diversity is the mindset players use when they're creating their characters. Some want their character to look like their actual self (or how they wished they looked), while others will aim just for what looks most badass.

Plus I'm sure you'll run into the same avatar at some point in the game. I'm sure on some level you can just apply the birthday paradox on that one.

I still don't even know what tribe I want to be for Miqo'te...... let alone color of skin/hair... or may face... !@$@ my first 3 days of beta are going to be testing out the character creation -.- lol

atleast by the time beta is over, I will know how I want to look, and can create my character much faster at retail.

Ya I usually make my character similar to myself in some ways (like height) but I do like a bit of fun too so I may go with blue hair.

I haven't read everything, but I don't remember them saying the Beta will have full character creation yet. well I take that back a little, give or take some options, but I would say that character creation would be 75-80% finished in beta

yeah I was as well, but still kind of a coin toss, but I hope to try both out, so at retail I know right what I want.
