You'd have to pay because it costs them money to run a beta. It costs them money for you to download the game and to keep the servers up. If they don't need PS3 testers, why should they pay for them?

Though there's always a chance they'll make an open beta for the PS3 when they do for the PC. We'll just have to wait and see.

If it makes you feel any better, I can't even remember the code they gave me after I punched in the numbers from my copy of the game.

Pretty sure it was for a in-game item for FFXIV... don't honestly remember anything about a beta invite. Not that I was paying attention anyway...

oh ok I see..... well the thing is, testing on PS3 is not top priority for SE, they get all the bugs out of alpha and beta for PC, and really all the beta is for PS3 is just server load and all that, since all the PS3s are the same there is no need for extensive testing. I can see where you are miffed though.

Oh I get it now, I had to read this thread again for it to make sense. I read this thread at first thinking it was some beta for 13, which made no real sense to me but I didn't connect the dots.

So the basic thrust of this thread is that Mal is mad because he can't access the beta. He wasn't guaranteed a spot in the beta. He doesn't need a spot in the beta. He just wants a spot in the beta. And it's unfair and terrible business practices to refuse it to him.

Which ultimately doesn't matter because he's totally going to play the game and froth at the mouth at every update there as well.

Which just brings this to mind, really.

No you tool, I'm mad that I can't even apply because my the benchmark says my PC isn't good enough and I don't own FF13 so I can't apply for PS3 either. It'd be entirely different if my app went through but I never got picked, but as it stands even if by some miracle my original PC app did get picked I wouldn't even be able to run the game. And to add insult to injury, SE basically deferred my questions to the beta site which only people who've gotten in can even access.


Yeah that's real great customer service right there.


EDIT: The other thing you seem to oh so conveniently forgetting is that this is a beta, where SE is seeking player input to change the game - It's a unique experience, and I'd like to get my thoughts and opinions into the mix seeing as I'll likely be playing this for some time to come.

no what he is mad about is that anyone on PS3 that wants to get into the test, has to buy FFXIII (and sorry but that game sucked.....I never though I would have to say that about a FF game) to get into it. When all the PC group had to do was sign up.

I'd like to point back to the post where I said that SE, as the creators of the game get to decide what the terms of the beta are. If you don't like them, you don't have to play, or attempt to participate in their totally unfair and bad customer service betas.

You know, I haven't played that game I bought on Monday yet.

And, amazingly, I have not died from this fact.

I waited four years to play Zelda: Twilight Princess and three to play Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid and Zelda games are like my favorites ever. Three to four years to get around to these games is atypical for me, but I did not experience any damage or trauma from waiting as long as I did.

So, will not getting into a beta test and waiting for the retail release of FFXIV kill you?

Chances are this isn't fatal for you. You'll just have to wait for the retail release like the rest of us. In the meantime there are plenty of other games to enjoy. Stop acting like this is a travesty.

Being in the beta first is only like having a band's t-shirt before they got big and the rest of us heard of them. You're not a better person because of it. Eventually the game will be out and within weeks your knowledge of the game from the beta will be surpassed by other players.

After all, what does having been in the FFXI beta get people these days?
