      Re: Japan criticizes FFXIV's combat?

      Based on the fact that the article is in horrible English, I'm going to ignore it. Also, it's quite easy to pull random quotes out of the air, like this article did.

      Between you and me, I was told Japanese players "love FFXIV and think the combat is amazing with bursts of sparkly glitter." In fact, one of my Japanese friends even told me, "I enjoy the combat a lot. Especially when I swing my sword that oozes out rainbows. These rainbows then proceed to strangle things."

      So, not sure where this article is getting its info.

      {rolls eyes}

      (Not to mention, I assume an article like this would be against NDA, as its disclosing information regarding the Alpha. These sorts of complaints would have been better off staying on the Alpha forums.)

        I believe this is why Square had an NDA on their alpha. To try and stop morons making reviews of a game that is most likely to change dramatically due to user testing (the purpose of an alpha).

        "... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

                From the player's perspective, no, since you only control one character, but the point is that being able to buffer stuff in FFXII is not as big a novelty as being able to buffer actions in a game where you need to wait for a bar to fill every time you want to do something.

                  But there might not even be a thing called Haste in FFXIV. There might be no haste or anything.

                    And because too many of the people who see them are morons and can't comprehend that a lot of shit is going to change between now and release. However, I can't see how they can get that much fixed up by December, so I'll be surprised if XIV goes release in 2010.

                      But honestly, battle is very slow... I hope they bump up the pacing, don't have all day to grind anymore.

                        Huh, for a minute there I thought they were talking about Starcraft II....

                        ....but then I realized I wasn't thinking about Japan, but Korea.... >.<'

                        Queue up the abilities. If you play baseball, then think of it as the batter on deck. You pick the next ability you want and it'll trigger as soon as you are able w/out having to spam the button like we currently do things in XI. ^^

                          I'll think of it like they used to have in Star Wars Galaxies ... you hit a button to do some command, it enters the command to be done when you're ready. It had something like 20 spots in the queue. I DO hope you'll be able to dump the queue at need, being locked into a series of attacks that become a mistake would be bad...

                            When compared to games like WoW and WAR, yes, the combat is pretty damn slow. I suppose most of the MMO players to have come into the genre in the past few years are the naysayers. Can't exactly blame them, they grew into the genre with twitch style gameplay.

                            It's faster then XIs, so I'm already content. Can't wait to see the more advanced parts of the combat in beta.

                              if it was any faster, people wouldn't have time to text chat and strategize.

                                Will with auto-attack, it gave you time to type real fast then get back to fighting.
