Well, in this case, there probably wouldn't be a North American beta if the game wasn't going to be released simultaneously.

Why would we have to import? Yoichi Wada set a company standard for all future releases of simultaneous world-wide launches. So we'll be getting XIV at the same time as Japan and Europe.

If the NA version doesn't allow us to type JP....

This would be nice. Though, from what I understand you can already do this with your PC? I know I can set my keyboard to type in English & French, and there were many other options available though I haven't played around with 'em. Actually I've been meaning to disable the others as my KB sometimes switches on me and it's rather annoying.

If you play the FFXI NA version, you can NOT type japanese in game. Even if you have JP IME installed on our windows. You need the windower's plug in to do so. Or play FFXI JP version.

I just hope FFXIV doesn't do the same.

We did, but the JP already had the game at that point for almost a year, so it wasn't as important of a test as the Alpha/Beta for XIV is. I actually beta tested FFXI on PS2 and I don't recall running into any bugs, but it was 8 years ago, so my memory is a little foggy.

I'll be importing because I have a feeling SE will not allow NA's and EU's to type in Japanese... Something that is pretty much needed (at least for me, seeing as we're playing with Japanese and I can speak it) probably won't be available again to outsiders of Japan in FFXIV.

Either way, I'll be importing again. Buying the NA ver. for my PC to link with my SE account, then the JP ver for my PS3.

They had an Alpha test for FFXI that got rid of most of them. Granted, the Alpha test was only for testing connectivity for North Americans using the JP client.

Says who? Tanaka & Komoto confirmed it would be a global launch right after E3. Hell, all the voice acting is in English. Methinks they're not about to shaft the NA/EU crowd.

FFXIV has voice acting?

I just hope SE doesn't go the route of all too many game developers in that graphics(and sound, I guess) > actual gameplay. Of course, having both is awesome, but if one should take priority over the other, it should be gameplay. If I just want eye candy, I'll go watch a movie, thanks.

They have been pretty good about making good gameplay the foundation of all their stuff in the past though, so I'm not particularly worried.
