I have yet to see any trolling about PvP. People hate PvP for their own reasons, and they are stating their opinions, which they are allowed to do, its not trolling. Why do you gotta be trolling about people stating their opinions about PvP Hmmm?

Why do we keep feeding your trolling about you wanting PvP? I mainly find its funny to sit here and read all this. But your bad typing is making me want to pull out my hair at times though.

we don't have anyone really fitting your description here, all the ones in this thread have been here for a little more at least 1-2 months. The only one that has joined and started trouble..... has been.... you ;p

When did I call you a troll? That was the second post I have in here, and I have never said anything about you being a troll. Maybe I should call you a troll so that you aren't a lier.

You singled out Taskmage as a troll in your last post. And you say you keep feeding the trolls, and yet you posted it here. So obviously, one would assume that you mean on this site, since its posted on this site and not any other.

Ok, kid, it's clear you're new to this game, so let me give you a few pointers. I am FFXIO's lead troll, and the only one here on a permanent basis.

Do you know why the last lead troll left? He wasn't banned. He didn't quit the game. I trolled him out of this place.

Now, I happen to know you like trolling trolls. But here's the thing-- most of the people on this internet have been dealing with trolls at least as long as you've stopped breastfeeding. Trolling trolls is a pro-tech; you can't just start out on it. Take it easy, go to a forum for people that aren't likely to have been on the internet very long (instead of video games, try medical forums, porn forums, or embarassing-hobby forums). For trolling trolls, you have to have an expert understanding of the troll mentality. The only way to acquire that mentality is to live it.

Kid, I'm gonna assume that they're still teaching animals in elementary school, so I suppose you'll have heard of Alpha animals. You know, pack leaders. Whatever animal you're dealing with, you do not start your interaction by going up and fucking with the alpha. Our Alpha is Taskmage. Do not fuck with him-- he is also an expert troll. He has been trolling hat-eating fetishists on this forum for years. What you may not know about is that animals also have Beta and Omega animals-- ones that follow the leader, and ones which are the weakest of all in the group. What you definitely don't know is that there's a fourth type-- the fucking crazy animals. The ones that don't fit the social hierarchy at all. Guess who that is. Don't fuck with them.

There, so we've dealt with appropriate targets for trolling. Here's another clue-- go for forums that have a divide. Drive wedges. This one is very much a community, and even the members who are the most anti-thetical are still chummy most of the time. Trolling is about getting people to react against each other, not you. It's easy to piss people off. A true artist fucks up the conversation. A true troll can derail a thread fatally with one comment that seems relatively on topic at the time. A true troll wreaks havoc without having been there.

If you have to be in-your-face to get the community riled up, don't just go "No, ur rong". That's boring. All you'll get is a chorus of "Noooooooooo", "youuuuuuuuuuuu" 'areeeeeeeeeeee', "newfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag". Again, drive a wedge. Here's some ideas for an FFXI forum: "DRG or PUP-- which one's AF makes me look more homosexual?", "DRKs: Maybe they don't stun because the job unlock quest discourages everyone but the mentally retarded?", "Could someone just explain why Manthras don't get sex changes irl?". It has to be something inflammitory, yet still vaguely plausible. Seem like an otherwise intelligent person, making logically valid points, with clear spelling, the occasional use of advanced vocabulary to throw off the philistines, and a point which is just feasible enough for someone to be confused about. Not a high bar-- we've all read youtube comments.

Whatever you do, do not mention trolls or trolling. It's unlikely you'll be able to pin that label on anyone in a community you aren't established in, especially if you're seen as a troll yourself. Worse yet, you'll get people turning it around to a NO U, and that will probably stick. Anytime someone with a low post count makes trouble, they're probably a troll. Get your post count up a bit talking about boring things. Which armor suits your X better. Talk about some funny real life anecdote. Get people used to you, then piss them off.

I hope you've learned something about proper trolling, and I hope you'll give it a shot on some part of the internet that doesn't have better things to do. As for this place, I'd like to close up by going back to our animal metaphor: Never fuck with an established territory. Taskmage is a remarkably reasonable guy if you give him a teeny bit of space and don't question his authority. That he's threatened to ban you really says something about how poor your skillz are. Trolling rule number two: Trolling isn't a race to b&, it's a struggle to piss people off as much as possible while flying just under the radar of moderation. Good trolling is like tantric sex. And you're about to blow it, kid.

i dont get it? what is pvp troll or a troll as the way its described here? This kind of blew up, i just thought the idea of being able to use ablities with both hands, changing stances and such would offer more personal feel for pvp, instead of X class (insert button rotation). This game looks like it will be amazing though, can't wait to start adventuring as a duskwight

Trolling has nothing to do with game mechanics. It's a way of behaving on forums. You could read Feba's post or just forget the entire thing. You'd be just as well off.

I have extremist views on PvP in MMOs. It should either be all out FFA, or shouldn't be in the game at all.

I agree. FFH PvP is fun. Duels or arena matchups are okay, but FFH really makes the world feel more alive and dangerous. Always needing to watch your back for others, or conversely being able to take out that annoying person camping the monsters you're trying to kill... ending up with rivalries with other linkshells/guilds/groups/whatever... It adds more spirit to the game, I think.

Or maybe I'm just a masochist.

FFH can be a problem when the game is poorly balanced, however. See: Age of Conan, where several classes could take out groups of 3-4 higher-levels if they got the jump on them. Parts of that game I really liked, but other parts were just horribly done.
