    Re: Manqo'te

    I always roll female characters.

I consider it a chance to sort of create my own ideal woman. My idea of an attractive woman is generally different from what the socially accepted norm of an attractive woman is, so I like being given the chance to create what I define as an attractive woman. My girlfriend has somewhat similar taste so I usually submit my designs to her for approval if she is around at the time.

There isn't always that much freedom in every character creation system, but I do what I can with what I am given to work with. Aion's character creation was basically fuckwin awesome in this department. I wish I had some decent screen shots of my character, but the only ones I took were pretty much fully armored so they show little character detail.

My son and I met this one guy in an MMO that was WAY creepy about his character. He felt it was an extension of himself so he wouldn't do or say anything in a virtual world that he wouldn't do/say in irl. Now the back story was that we were looking to start a guild and massively recruit but we needed some dedicated/experienced/talented players for a foundation, which were highly in demand. He was an awesome player but a couple weeks after we formed our guild, we had a loooong chat with him were he totally creeped us out. He talked about every minute aspect of his character which he would then compare to himself irl. He was like " Why would I do something in game that may reflect negatively on my character and on myself irl because my reputation as a human being is more important." Dealing with him was a trip and I was so glad that I got into us into the Anarchy Online beta so we could get away from that freak!

Well now, this has me intrigued. If your ideal woman is not what is considered "the socially accepted norm", just what is your ideal woman!? Inquiring minds want to know!....and nosey little old ladies too!

You're creeped out by a guy who takes a game seriously but not by a guy who embodies his sexual fetishes as personal avatars?

I say sexual because an online character has no personality, leaving only the aesthetics.

This I agree with. I'm going to be a Miqo'te. No deciding on that.

            Re: Manqo'te

I played a Mithra in FFXI, I may play a Miqu'te in FFXIV, I still haven't decided. I don't see anything wrong with guys playing as female avatars or vice-versa.

The games are role playing games, you play the role of another character. If you're just going to play as yourself in the game you're taking away half of the aspect of the game. People don't have issues with people playing as other races in the game, why should playing as a different sex be any different.

Maybe it would help if the servers were split into role playing and non-role playing servers.

Just try not to end up like

Society generally defines beauty as being thin and stylish. The kind of girls you see plastered half naked all over magazines and other advertisements.

I say fuck all that noise. I love women with curves, and not the silicon kind. Voluptuous bodies, child bearing hips, deliciously thick thighs and dat ass. If I could find a work safe example in my 4chan folder I would post it, but I have so many images in there Windows decides to stop loading thumbnails after I get about 1/4 of the way through it.

I wouldn't recommend using this word anywhere near a Japanese (speaking) person.

                        Re: Manqo'te

I seldom, if ever, "roll" female avatars. Staying within my own real-life gender gives me a sort of sense of familiarity, and aside, it's not like I would need, or even want, my own fantasy RPG character to sexually appeal to me. Just a personal preference, I guess.

As far as the avatar being an extension of the self goes, I definitely personally use Tamarsamar as an outlet for my quixotic nature (the A-grade ham in my sig should make this more than obvious), and, as can only be expected from the fact that it is still me that's playing him, other parts of my personality just naturally fill in. Thus, he doesn't become me so much as a part of me. How I created him was to my liking, and he was who I wanted to be upon character creation, but ultimately I don't have any delusions of actually wanting to be a Tarutaru or anything like that. It's just a role that I enjoy playing, so I guess I can kind of see where males who play female characters are sort of coming from.

Though, on a tangentially-related note, I have occasionally slipped Taru-isms in to real life. No idea why, though - I think it's just because they're so fun to say aloud.

always been more comfortable playing female characters (dont read into that more then need be lol) Very few games did I ever play male (Star Trek Online for one). But I never hide the fact I am male RL, if I am asked I tell, if not asked, not my fault. I dont need to walk around yelling "I have a thing!"

I don't mind roll playing one bit. I've done my fair share in the past. But the guy I was referring to was scary. lol I wish I still had his picture. He looks damn near exactly like his character and made an outfit that matches his character. AND HE WEARS IT EVERYTIME HES IN GAME!!
