It's funny, how there are so many FFXIV haters (calling it FFXI-2 etc) and yet I'll bet y'all will STILL be buying and playing this game when it comes out. How about, you all quit your bitching, moaning, etc, and just let the damn game come out THEN make your comparisons? Sheesh, thought we had cleared this up already and new people come in here claiming the exact same thing! STFU already!

Tell ya what, you find me someone who posted in the thread who is actually hating on the game because it's so similar to XI and I'll stop posting in this thread. But so far the only people showing any kind of hate are the ones stamping their feet and throwing tantrums about how "new" and "different" FFXIV looks...when it really doesn't. SE specifically kept a very similar visual style from FFXI for XIV, they want people who've played XI for years to be able to come into this new game and have it feel familiar and comfortable. The gameplay and story will be different, no one has ever said otherwise, but the visuals and the way the story is told will be done the same way as FFXI. But to most people, that's a good thing because the way SE did the visuals and storytelling in FFXI was great.

In short, saying the game looks like XI =/= hating on the game.

Really so far all I want to know is how many characters I'll need to fully enjoy every class, because God help me I'm not going to be able to pry myself away from all the awesome new crafting.

I almost cried when I saw the Galka sprinkling salt into that pot, and the Miqo'te holding down that ingot while the blacksmith hammered away at it. Realistic freaking crafting... I LOVE IT! *squees uncontrollably*

Well from what I understand, the job system will be like XI's (omg, another similarity!) in that you can, and most likely will have to, level multiple jobs on a single character. Leveling a class in multiple disciplines is almost a no brainer, but it also seems that leveling multiple classes in a single discipline will give you access to those job's abilities and can be set to whatever main job you're currently using. Meaning you could have a Marauder who leveled Pugilist, and set his Steal ability but not his other abilities.

Also, you do realize those highly animated crafters were NPCs right? FFXI had similar NPC crafters in their guilds as well(OMG, another similarity!), visibly working on whatever craft they represented over and over until the end of time (my favorite was the Bonecrafter's guild ). Actual, player based crafting looks like it will just be a rehashed and expanded version of the Crystal system since iirc, they're making a return in XIV(look at that, another similarity!). There's even a screenshot on the main site of a hume guy in the same old FFXI crafting pose working on something for a Mithra(which btw, is two more similarities since he's in the same old crafting stance and she's doing the same old mithra /joy emote). The only difference is the crafter has tools now.

It's boring mostly. THF in the early days was all about SATA and that was about it. NIN as a tank was pretty interactive, but it still got boring and wasn't very engaging.

Edit: To clarify, it's just auto attack, provoke, ws, and keep shadows up. Not very "fun". Atleast not for me. And at 3am playing with JP onry, not having anyone to talk to between pulls or anything, wasn't much reason to stay awake.

pre-60 thf sucks ass to play in a party, unless the group is willing to work with you there's no point in even trying. Post 60 it gets much more active though, as you really don't have time to constantly line up and pre-charge abilities. But by then you can fire SA, TA and your WS off all on their own and do a lot of damage.

Can't say anything about nin though, I only got it to 40ish where is starts really getting active with the ni elementals and all. But at the same time I know they quickly lose effectiveness so there's less reason to use them.

....and gdi, I just realized I need to take nin to 49 now.

Incorrect, sir. The biggest difference is because crafting is class based now, they count towards your eventual skill cap. Seeing as SE has yet to announce what this cap will be, I'm rather skeptical about being able to fully level every craft. Or maybe you can, but by that point you've hit your skill cap and can't raise any combat skills.

This is what's bugging the crap out of me. In XI you can take all 20 jobs to 75, no restrictions (except for merits). I'd be amazed if SE allowed the same thing again in XIV since it would be horribly unbalancing to the economy. And DUH those were NPCs, doesn't make it any less awesome.

If I'm not mistaken it's the representation of a sound that cats make. There are some noises that are not full on meows.

I could be totally wrong fyi. I have only ever seen Mew on these forums.

The only levels/parts of leveling Thf I did not enjoy were the soloing in Campaign parts. Mostly because it was right after the Meleeing Fortification change to exp/note gain. I enjoyed pulling, and lining up correctly, and even Viper Bite. Yes, my life became much simpler when I hit 60, but it was still very enjoyable even before then.

I had not even considered the whole skill cap possibility. I think you might be right that taking a craft to full cap, and a Class to full cap would require two different characters. Too early to tell what restrictions will be in place, so will just have to wait patiently for details.
