But yeah, FFXIV !! LOOKS !! alot like FFXI. Stop trying to point out little subtle differences, and act like it's a huge change. Facial structure? Give me a break. So my Mithra got plastic surgery, it's still the same thing. If you wanna play that game, look at all the similarities in the armor they're wearing, in comparrison to leather armor in FFXI. Little changes here and there. Or how bout the spear? Looks eerily similar to Bronze Spear or whatever in XI. And quit being stupid, that place looks very similar to Bastok. That in my mind is how it's going down AT THE MOMENT, and can change, but for now to me that = HD Remix.

The races are similar to the ones in FFXI (calling them the same would be untrue) and have different background stories then the ones in FFXI, that is not the definition of same -.-

The art style of the game is a bit different, and the game's lore is different.

You can call it FFXI 2.0 untill your blue in the face, but it wont make you look any less ignorant.

Their face structure is different. and you shouldn't use 'HD' loosely. FFXIV could have not supported HD, and still appear as it does now, art direction-wise.

Their face structure is different from what? Elvaan Male Face 1a? Or maybe Elvaan Male face 3b? Because even in FFXI, all the faces had different structures. Hume 3a doesn't have the same jaw line and forehead structure of Hume 6a etc. The only ones who had the same facial structure in FFXI were taru...and would you look at that, so do Lalafell.

Well maybe ppl will accept FFXIV has its own world when open beta starts.

Secondly, we're all very away that the story and gameplay will be different. Story and gameplay often do differ when dealing with sequels. Which is exactly what this is, a sequel to FFXI. The art style however, does not differ greatly from FFXI's, it's just more detailed and intricate. Because now that they're dealing with next gen graphics engines and systems, they can make better looking character models and game locations. Now FFXIII, which uses the same exact graphic engine, and even FFXIIIvs, which again, uses the Crystal Engine, have much different art styles then FFXIV. But FFXIV's art style is highly inspired by and based on the one used in FFXI, and intentionally so by SE.

It's not 'ignorant' to call a duck a duck, and calling FFXIV FFXI-2 is perfectly accurate. (p.s. if you still don't get it, look at the differences between FFX and FFX-2).

People are saying FFXIV is a sequel, an upgrade, a spiritual successor, very similar looking and highly inspired by FFXI's art style, environment, and overall feel. Gameplay and story will be different yes, but not a single person has argued against that, but it's just plain foolish to ignore the massive amounts of similarities between the two.

Also, I will continue to refer to XIV's races by XI's names because they're shorter and simpler to spell. Except the elfs...cause I just call them elfs.

FFXIV is our game too, we can have our opinions and comparisons as much as anyone. If we disagree with you then we disagree. I think most of us comparatists are just tired of the vocal minority shoving their opinions in our face.

In the beginning I did not care when people stated their opinion about judging FFXIV on it's own. I was perfectly fine with them taking their moment to post their views. Now it's however many months later and I am tired of seeing thread after thread, post after post of the same crap.

I guess what I am trying to say is stop posting your opinion in such a way that you are saying everyone is wrong if they do not see it your way. It's opinion. I feel the same way about my own views fyi. Just because someone does not agree with my opinion does not make either one of us wrong.

Why are you so mad and taking things so overboard? I still have yet to see anybody on this board say that they won't be buying or checking it out because of the similarities. Everybody is excited about what they've shown so far and there won't be any final judgments made until after the game/open beta come out.

I don't know if I'm being considered a XIV hater. I'm getting this game without hesitation, and I'm still looking forward to it a lot.

I'm not even upset about the very clear similarities between XI and XIV. I couldn't care less, as a matter of fact.

I'm merely pointing out that people shouldn't deny that XIV is heavily XI influenced aesthetically.

Haters? I haven't heard anyone say they hated it. I've heard people say that its LOOKS like FFXI spiffed up and with some changes. No one's said the story is the same. No one's said that its going to play the same. All people are saying is that the 2 games are very similar graphically, right down to the same races with graphical tweaks and different names.

I'll buy it, I'll play it, but I would rather of had more originality.

I'll be playing it even if it does suck, which I really doubt it will, because barring FFXIII I've loved every Final Fantasy to death. Actually toss X-2 in there, but I did like the battle system.

Hell, I'd still buy it if they named it Final Fantasy XI-2: HD Remix. :D

it's funny you call it HD Remix, since the only HD Remixes out there are direct " visual remakes" of existing games. But they are still the same game, same story, same world (SUper Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, for example.)

Really so far all I want to know is how many characters I'll need to fully enjoy every class, because God help me I'm not going to be able to pry myself away from all the awesome new crafting.

I almost cried when I saw the Galka sprinkling salt into that pot, and the Miqo'te holding down that ingot while the blacksmith hammered away at it. Realistic freaking crafting... I LOVE IT! *squees uncontrollably*
