Just got an e-mail update from SE, and it looks like they updated the class information... there is a lot of new info on the arts of war(4 melee classes and 1 ranged) as well as a little on the magic(only two classes here). The magic ones were particularly interesting for me... Conjurer, despite sounding like it would summon things, seems to operate like a white mage/black mage hybrid... sort of like a red mage without any sword at all. Thatamurge looks like a dark knight with a staff. Even though I generally prefer the damage dealing mages, I'm looking at the Conjurer more right now because it seems to have a lot of flexibility.

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
They all look good to me, I shut my brain out to everything FFXI when I look at anything FFXIV related, and it helps alot ;p
It seems this time around, the flexibility of parties will be 100% better-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kain (FFIV): I am aware of my actions, but can do nothing about them.

I like the Conjurer's ability list. The "In Action" diagram made me lol. The seventh element is you!

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
I am kinda partial to the conjurer. The armor they have is so damned cool! That purple pointy hat, and their robes! OMG! I hope that there isn't some rediculius quest/high level needed for them. Kinda like AF, but no need to go searching in an area where you would most likely die lol.
As for the Gladiator. They have some nice armor as well. I would love to try out both the classes.

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
A buddy of mine was bragging about the Lancer job abilities (He is a DRG >_>). I decided to look at the other jobs on Saturday since I hadn't really been paying attention to FFXIV yet.
I think I wanna be this guy.
I'll probably play Marauder and Gladiator.{New Sig in the works}

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
I like how they're really focusing on giving more options to individual classes to better differentiate them this time around.
In XI, the original 15 jobs are all rather bland, at least as far as the melee jobs go. Yeah they're cool and fun in their own right, but... I'm not really sure how to put it, I think Armando has talked about this before. Basically, they're all trying to do the same thing with mostly aesthetic differences.
Gladiator, IMO, is looking to be everything Paladin should have been with proficiency in both offense and defense. From what the interviews and magazines have said so far it sounds like it will be able to hold its own far better than PLD ever could as well. It's kind of a true PLD/WAR hybrid but without the magic.
Pugilist is looking like a mix of MNK THF & NIN so far and while I'd still like to see an actual Rogue class, I don't think I'd mind this one. It's already looking 10x better than MNK with the offensive & defensive stances paired with the stealth elements.
Lancer honestly strikes me as a mix of DRG & DRK since it's pure offensive and even a little self-destructive. Absolutely loving the emphasis on range this time around, something that's always bugged the crap out of me in XI. What good is using a reach weapon when range isn't even a factor in combat outside of bows/guns/etc.
Marauder is just all kinds of bad ass wow... and IMO what WAR ought to have been in XI. Bows are nasty for sure, but no way is an arrow going to inflict more damage than a freaking great axe. Both can kill in one strike, but only one of them will cleave an enemy in two. That ability to keep moving during a bind effect is also very interesting.
Archer's the only one I'm not super impressed with, but it's still looking much better than RNG ever did. Hurray for an actual variety of arrows this time instead of just using the highest damage ammo. Yes I know Xbow is their utility weapon but how often do even see Xbow at endgame these days? Besides it's nice not having to carry an entirely different weapon type & skill just for some extra effects. Also, Replenish ftw wow.
Conjurer & Thaumaturge I'm reserving judgment until I see just how the game plays. I honestly don't like how they're severely limiting MP this time around since that just makes being a mage way less fun. I love what they're doing with the combat and classes over all, especially the bigger emphasis on strategy and tactics over the mobs simply having a raw power advantage.
However, the one thing that's always pissed me off in RPGs is magic being relegated to a strategic resource rather than a natural extension of your character like weapons, armor, and special attacks etc. If nothing else, that is probably the one thing I absolutely love SE for doing in XIII, taking out MP from the game entirely and allowing you to spam magic as much as your ATB allows.
... and I luvs mah new Sage Sundi sig XD thanks to Elmer for the pic :3

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
Hey malicite... This isn't FFXI in HD. Don't compare it to FFXI jobs. I didn't even bother reading the first few sentences after seeing paladin. Don't think FFXI when you see FFXIV, and please don't compare it to FFXIV since it isn't a sequel.

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
So what's he gonna compare it to?
We're all gonna have some measure by which we make our judgments, would you prefer he measured it against FFXII, FFVI, or some other offline game? Maybe Everquest, perhaps?
Comparing it against FFXI is about as good as any other, and no less silly than coming off FFXI and trying to examine it with a blank slate.

I'm not sure how long the "run around to keep our distance optimized" will remain fun.... I hope the battle doesn't turn out as complete mess.
In the other hand I think they made a very interesting move..... so now you can play pure crafter or gatherer that can travel with groups... very interestingThere are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Re: So... what do you think of the new classes?
Most of the melee I see in FFXI is running around to get into their position, and when the mob moves they have to run around again. Very few people don't want their own unobstructed view of a mob."All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness." - Mark Kennedy
