Except I doubt SE is going to make the Utsusemi mistake twice. Nobody is going to evasion tank when all it takes is a couple bad rolls to crumple like the piece of paper you are.

... Just because you have high evasion, doesn't mean that you will tank with shadows like a ninja. I doubt they will make the mistake as well. There are more ways to tank than to just take hits, and deal with it. You can actually avoid hits with a high enough evasion. I do the same thing with my Dancer. I don't even need to have utsusemi up 75% of the time due to all my evasion gear. Hell, when I solo, I don't even use shadows.

I don't think you understood at what I was implying there.

Wow. I was referring to the utsusemi point you where making. Not the evasion thing.

I wouldn't mind being an evasion tank. Its pretty fun actually. Since you can save the healer tons of mp as well.

You don't recall the "Lancet" ability from older games at all? This version of the job just seems to take the idea and expand on it quite a bit.

Really, Archer and Conjurer are the ones that stunned me the most. Conjurer sounds more like a RDM to me, but forgoing the melee side entirely (I'm not likening it to SCH because it's straight up spell casting where as SCH tweaks it's spells).
Conjurer is tweaking its spells, though, he has a stance for them. RDMs do not tweak, SCHs do.

Archer's abilities are pretty awesome, and I especially love how they gave it flee. Thank you SE, for giving the job who's role it is to stay way the hell in the back the ability to do so.
Somehow I don't think that's why they gave Archer that ability. Last thing you need is the onle guy that takes hate to run off with the monsters.

Once again, I want to thank SE for all this awesomeness.
Yeah, I see this attitude right here lasting.

Have they talked at Enmity at all yet? Could be more logical this time around; monsters tend to go after people that seem more dangerous to them, that are closer, etc., instead of just "X POINTS FOR Y ACTION"

Yes. They've said an archer will have to carefully go about their shooting business so that they don't get hate and die a horrible death. Leading me to think the enmity system will be somewhat similar to the one in FFXI.

Hmm I guess, though it's not quite the same either. The elemental influence they exude around themselves seems to affect everything related to that element and for everyone in the party who's close enough. Scholar has limited resources that get used on a per-spell basis. And Lancet was never any good.

Why shouldn't Archer have flee? For a job who's focus is to stay as far back as possible while dealing damage, it makes all the sense in the world for them to have flee. At least in XI THF has an A+ evasion skill they can rely on to save their sorry asses. RNG has nothing. Oh yay shadowbind, that's not always gonna do it. Granted neither will flee against speedy mobs, but if I had to pick I'd take flee over shadowbind. It also reinforces the idea of Archer playing a scout role kinda like modern day recon troops.

honestly, how the hell are you going to use flee in a roaming party? Run around in circles and pray that it goes back to your tank before it goes for the mages who can actually try to do things to it?

simple answer, you would not use flee

Simple - Archer runs ahead of the group and tries to pick off a mob while the rest of the group makes its way there. It just seems fitting for the ranger to have it, particularly since there's no Rogue class yet. I am not counting Pugilist as such. There's gonna be a classic dagger wielding Thief at some point I'm sure. Also, some enemies will actually run away in XIV, so wouldn't you want the guy with the longest reach to be the one to chase it down?

Well, that's dandy, you don't get to decide if Pugilist is the THF or not at this point. SE gets to decide that.

Also, roaming parties don't need people with speed advantages to pull, that's why they're roaming parties. You're assuming the duration of chains is going to be the same anyway. It might be a bit more loose.
