  • Re: New info from Famitsu this week

I'm curious as to whether they stated the character system is like FFXI (I.e. You have to pay x amount for every extra character you make on an account) or it they improved it to be like every other MMO and let you make a certain amount of characters per account (7-8 in most MMOs).

Either way, I'll prolly pick up lancer or pug first.

No one even asked that question a year ago when the game was first announced.. lol Good question though.

I think extra character slots should be paid separately,

otherwise the main fee might be higher and that would technically be like automatically charging extra slots for people who just want one character slot and are not planning on using those extra slots ever.

Cause it's ok for one idiot to call someone else an idiot. You know.. kind of how it's ok for us black people to use the N word, but not whiteys.

Maybe if I get myself another Ebisu rod for XIV, I'll be able to hit mobs with it this time.... Always wanted to 1-shot Fafnir with it.

Because for me, calling someone an idiot is nice. It's almost a term of endearment.

When you call someone an idiot, you're being kind of a dick.

No duh. You kill monsters as you explore and progress. It's incidental since you never really think about the exp you get. You go forward, kill things as you go, and by the time you reach the next boss you are strong enough to beat it.

And nah, that would be FF5. And 6 and 7 didn't require any either. FF12 becomes grindy if you don't do sidequests (which would be stupid, since that's the point) but those others don't remotely require any sidequesting.

You seem to be ignoring a singular, glaring issue in your whole "you level as you explore in old FF" argument. And that is that the original comments that started this whole line of discussion was a joke. Not meant to be 100% accurate or taken seriously at all. You know, it was a comment that was supposed to make you go "haha!" and not "zomgthatsnottrue!"

Which btw, chances are 'leveling' in FFXIV (which at this point we don't even know how leveling works) will probably be done more inside of instanced Leves rather then "exploring" the world map. So chances are, Feba's comment will probably end up being fairly accurate. We'll spend most of our time running around the same area while being a stone's throw away from a "save point".

I mean, it's annoying enough managing MP in XI, but now you can't even actively replenish it without special skills? I thought they were supposed to be making soloing easier. I was telling one of my good friends about this and now she's having second thoughts because all she does is play mage roles.
When they say no resting, they mean you can't suddenly pull away from the fight in progress, take a knee and recovery mp or hp while other people are still fighting. Between fights though, your character can enter a relaxed state where it regains HP/MP, even while moving. But during combat, the only way to recover magic is by items and abilities. This is a system similar to WoW's iirc.

As for soloing, I don't know if you noticed, but it seems most jobs have some sort of manner in which to heal themselves. Then there's also the still un-discussed sub job/ability system in which we may be able to take abilities from one class and use them on another, similar to FFV or FFT. Soloing in fights may very well be a viable option for all of the combat classes, while crafter and gathering classes gain skills and "level ups" in their own special, solo way.

Guildleves are limited in use per day, I feel that still won't be the main method to skill up. Guildleves are primarily for those with little time to play, that's why guildleves are said to have limited use, maybe not as limited as Atheryte use..

But people will often times skill up from enemies roaming the persistent world. It makes no sense to make all the mobs totally instanced.

Game day or RL day? Because if it's game day, it may not be a limit at all.

I mean FoV's once per game day aren't much of a limit in XI

Even in end game, we oil/powder our way to the strongest boss. Aggro'ing some weakling on the way means a lot of trouble to the whole alliance or even a wipe... it shouldn't be like that.

A system designed for us to fight our way in is just an excellent change I always want to see.
I like this idea. As an example I give you the path to Kirin room, which I'm sure more than one person has posted about in the pet peeves thread. If they had made a short gauntlet of mobs that we had to fight through as a group to get to Kirin, that would have been much more fun than the random BS they have now.

Except people would bitch moan and complain about that as well.

Case in point: Promyvions. When they were released, the climb was more dangerous then the boss fight. Forcing players to take their time, pick their fights, and slowly work their way through this zone of IT True Sound aggroing mobs to safely get to the bossfight zoneline. Now...it's empty. You couldn't get aggro in there even if you tried...and believe me, I have tried. It's not even fun to climb them anymore since it's so stupidly dumbed down.

Because people whined and bitched about having to fight their way through it. We've had places where we could "fight our way" through them, WotG even had missions that were specifically that. No real single boss, but instead wave upon wave of attackers in a dungeon we could fight our way through. Hell, MMM was built upon that concept. It's not really a new idea, as far as dungeons and events are concerned, hell that's how most endgame events work in FFXI now.

Most people don't "explore" in FFXI nowadays because it's already been explored. As soon as a new zone is added, as soon as WotG, ToAU, CoP etc came out, people were in these new zones, openly, actively and 'bravely' exploring. The ability to 'explore' has a limited shelf life, either based on how new the content is, or how new the player is. FFXIV won't be all that different, once people have explored everything, and all the quickest paths discovered, only new players or new content will allow actual exploration.

They whine because there's tools for them to sneak through places. And they got spoiled.

They shorted-sightly added sneak/invis. Then later want to fix it by adding true-sight mobs? Just a mess.

If the system is designed for you to fight your way in and not allow sneaking from the beginning, the whining would just stop after a while.
