I do have a question on this. FFXI is the only MMO I've played, so I've not seen multiple subscription plans. If they were to offer it, would you be able to switch between them? Could I do a one month subscription (so I could decided if I liked it) and then change it to a one year after? Or would I be locked into whatever method I started the game with? Do other games that offer multiple sub plans allow change?

Absolutely After your first month that you payed for is up and it's time to renew you can sign up for longer batches. I've done 3 months before and switched to per month plans after I stopped playing as much as I did those first 3.

At least that's how it is in most MMOs I've played.

With FFXI able to keep me playing for 5+ years, I have enough faith to pay for a lifetime for FFXIV personally. $300 is no big deal now, not like the time when I was a student.

I vastly prefer having 3 month subscriptions.

My major issue with pay-to-play games is that you're supposed to be paying for regularly updated content, then you have to buy expansion packs aswell. That's a kick in the jewels.

I think 3 month subscription is not enough because one is more likely to forget or maybe miss something and then they might run into problems if they don't have enough money to spend on it. That's why a year's length sub is more good because it's easy to take note of once the year is over,

plus it gives a whole year's pleasant style of just playing whenever you can,
and not thinking about debt, since you already paid for that year.

I don't think someone would forget that the MMO they're playing has a monthly billing cycle. Not sure what you mean by debt. It's a freaking credit card that's what they do. If $15/month is gonna break you then you have far more serious financial problems and shouldn't be spending money on an MMO.

What 3/6/12 month subscription plans offer isn't just peace of mind of having the next few months paid out but also cost savings(a 6 month subscription plan with WoW costs 77.94 but if you had paid that monthly it would have been 89.94).

what they should do is offer a year subscription option, so people don't have to put up with that monthly payments notices. FFXIV should adopt a subscription option like that so people can renew every year instead of every month.

I rather pay a year up front and play when I want without having every month to think about if I have enough money in the bank so there are no problems, That's one thing I liked about Xbox Live Gold in that you can pay for a year and not be bothered for a whole year. Well ya that was just 50 dollars, compared to a year mmorpg subscription which would probably cost about $160
(if the fee is about $14 monthly), but that's better than dancing around the fee situation every month.

as for cancellations, that doesn't matter. anyone who thinks the might go on and off at times, should stick with monthly fees. But long term players should have the option to get full year subscriptions so SE and themselves are in good terms and not bother each other for a year. Players would play whenever they want without needing to think about the next month, because they already paid for a year, the doors are open until next year, when they can decide to go for another year if they want.

That is something I think they should look at as well nice point!

Now you want prepaid cards at retail stores? Only a handful of MMOs have done that and only a max of 60 days prepaid.
