what they should do is offer a year subscription option, so people don't have to put up with that monthly payments notices. FFXIV should adopt a subscription option like that so people can renew every year instead of every month.

I rather pay a year up front and play when I want without having every month to think about if I have enough money in the bank so there are no problems, That's one thing I liked about Xbox Live Gold in that you can pay for a year and not be bothered for a whole year. Well ya that was just 50 dollars, compared to a year mmorpg subscription which would probably cost about $160
(if the fee is about $14 monthly), but that's better than dancing around the fee situation every month.

as for cancellations, that doesn't matter. anyone who thinks the might go on and off at times, should stick with monthly fees. But long term players should have the option to get full year subscriptions so SE and themselves are in good terms and not bother each other for a year. Players would play whenever they want without needing to think about the next month, because they already paid for a year, the doors are open until next year, when they can decide to go for another year if they want.

the way FFXIV will work is different from FXI, the payment notice is from POL, witch FFXIV will not use, that and the way they will bill you will be different from the way they have done it with FFXI.

thats why I never do any plan but the 1 month, although to be honest if FFXI has come out with a 3 month plan, I would have gone with that after playing for my first year ;p

people are only stupid if they buy a 1 year plan when they are the type of person who gets disappointed or bored or
generate negative reactions easily.
Those types of people should remain with the 1 month deal.

3-6 months isn't good enough for me because I know possibly within the distractions of everyday life, I might forget and I already have countless things to remember and keep track of. a 1 year plan would work better for me so I can enjoy playing anytime I can with no monthly interruptions about the bill.

Even IF in some unlikely situation that I would decide to quit before the year is over, I would not regret paying for a year because that's what I chose to invest in, besides even if I "quit", there is always times to think things over and perhaps "join" again
before the year is over.

That's one of the advantages of paying up front for a year plan, even if you quit and decide to unexpectedly join later, you don't have to have to go through all the subscription BS, technically your account still is active until the full year is over. So it's very smooth to jump back in without needing to be treated like a new customer. Because you already payed for that year. Your account can be used or unused as you see fit. And then next year you can decide if you wanna invest another year with FFXIV. etc.

It's similiar how to even within a month's fee,
the player won't be necessarily using all the hours/days of that month to play the game, but they can if they wanted to. The only difference is that they are usually charged after the month is up.

And I hate being in debt, so that's another reason why I prefer paying up front, and a year subscription option even better to keep SE and the bank off my back.

as for lifetime plan, I would think that's when things get excessive. a year can be planned. but 3-9 years, who knows what the situation will be like outside of the game. ppl going for that might as well settle for the year plan and just pay for the next year when it comes up.

But lfietime plan hmmm lol depending how much it costs, I think SE would smile at the idea Even if the player quits a year later, they still got their money. They are optional plans after all, the more options, the more types of customers and ways SE can make money off of FFXIV.

Whithout question if there was a lifetime sub plan for FFXIV I would jump on that like chocobo on greens. There's just no way I am not playing that game for years to come. But if they don't I'll happily pay for 3-6 months at a time or a year.

Yea I really hope they offer the same subscription plans as I've seen with other MMOs. I'd get the 1 year subscription plan. Lifetime would be good but I doubt they'd offer that. Star Trek Online had lifetime but it was a Cryptic MMO so they tried to sucker in people to buy it while the hype was still strong because Cryptic MMOs suck long term.

I doubt that for these reasons:

1. No other MMO has charmed me like FFXI
2. FF games are what have made me a 'gamer' I was quite happy with "Myst" and tetris type games before. Now I crave RPGs.
3. I've followed every major MMO since Guild Wars and was in beta or in launch for almost all of them, nothing can possibly disappoint more then Vanguard and Chronicles of Spellborn.

I am prepared for any number of bugs, and so far FFXIV is keeping with the spirit of FFXI which is what I wanted to see, but in a new world in beautiful graphics in a world that's supposedly mostly open. ALL I need to know now is if we have Mog Houses. Give me a mog house I'll you a lifetime, lifetimes pay for a year and half worth of playtime (sometimes 2) , after one year a new MMO is usually a lot more solid then at launch and if it's mostly payed for by then I'll have years to enjoy the best to come.

A lifetime sub for a game you're a big fan of it's IP, is a huge deal. I know people who have lifetime LotrO subs and have never regretted for a second because they know they can just go back whenever they want, and it's an IP they love so they know they'd go back.

A lifetime subscription price is equivalent to two years worth of monthly subscription. So if you play an MMO for even just 3 years a lifetime subscription has already saved you money. It's for that cost saving reason that I doubt FFXIV will offer it. FFXIV is sure to be popular and have good long term content that'll keep many people playing for years(especially in Japan). MMOs that have offered lifetime have struggled with popularity or interesting long term content(such as with Cryptic MMOs).
