Pretty much. Pick up groups will accept or deny you in the party based solely on your gearscore, which is straight ridiculous.

I really like WoW's new (ish?) auto-teaming system. It reminds me of McDonald's. Or Bureaucracy.

Not wishing to head too far off topic but I am with you on this, the new LFG system in WoW IMO has been a massive sucess and the benefits far outweight the tiny problems it has created. The only real downside to the system is that you can now behave like a complete ass in your PUG or you can just outright leave after the boss you wanted loot from is killed because you know you will vanish back to your own server and never see the 4 people you just abandonded ever again (probably). Apart from this one issue the reduced travel time and easy (well easier) location of tanks and healers has been a overwheling plus to the game.

As for gearscore, yes it is flawed as a means to evaluation a persons worth however I feel that it is mis-understood here on the forum as people are thinking about it in a FFXI-esque manner. For what FFXI considers EXP PUGs the gearscore add is not used (the LFG system makes it almost impossible). Currently the gearscore addon is being used to filter out poorly equipped players into events similar in nature to Einhejar, Limbus and Salvage where you get limit attempts at it per week. I'm not pro- gearscore by any means but I am also not trying to stop it, I am more than happy for the people who use it to announce themselves as simpletons in /shout every week so I know exactly which PUGs to avoid.

Wow... So glad I quit wow now...

This is why I really like FFXI. Your reputation and name matter, you have a real tangible investment in your character because what you do will most definitely affect the future of your character. Be an ass at low levels? That might come back to haunt you when you're desperately searching for a party and no one wants to party with your because of your asshattery.

A major incident happened back in the early 2000s that caused my old LS to break apart and subsequently everyone quit because our names were so tarnished. It was pretty much a server exile for us. =/.

I think you are blowing it out of proportion. The majority of people are smart but its always the minority you hear about, its just another fad that will dissapear as fast as it arrives.

I've always been one of the first to defend WoW when people who have clearly never played it start throwing uneducated nonsense about. That said, your statement is most likely limited to experiences on your server because the majority of players on the few servers I've played on have been the dregs of humanity.

On the handful of occasions I've quit WoW it's been 50% terrible game design direction / 50% wanting to pluck my eyes out and stamp on them so I didn't have to read the shit spamming up my screen.

Thats why I did as well. Got tired of spamm, and the graphics...As well as no real story line, except for the npcs. I mean... if there was a story line in the actual game, and required more intelligence, and thinking to play the game, it would be MUCH better.

Can't comment on this as I haven't played WoW beyond the free trial (which honestly was enough for me) but Warcraft has had a pretty epic story to it if you played 1-3 and read the manuals for all the back story. The novels are also pretty damned good. Blizzard knows how to spin a good yarn.

War craft does have a good story line behind it. But WoW though... I just cant find it... I'd rather have FFXI.

hehe similar thing in Star Trek Online right now, there is one boss, called the Crystalline Entity.....

the way to kill it is very simple, and has been told to the player mass many many times....


1) Have everyone fly around it in the same direction, so that the small fragments follow everyone but dont touch anyone....

2) Destroy the big fragments so they dont break into smaller ones

3) shoot the crap out of the CE and dont use Torpedoes or mines at all during the fight.

I mean really, even to anyone who has not played STO, can get this simple thing right?.... Because the player base cant -.-

People where complaining that it was to hard, and I told them that if they had to fight anything in STO that required eve half the thought it took to kill a boss in FFXI, they would crap their pants.
