I did read that commic, but I was not qouting it. It is my personal oppinion of what I had thought about the games leveling system bassically. There where many issues with it IMO. You could sit out side the city, and kill the weaklings over and over for about an hour or so and get like 200 Liscence points with out much effort at all.

I don't worry about half the stuff said about me on the internet. Have you seen half my posts? lol

I also wasn't meaning to refrence it, it was just a coincidence lol.

Actually it represents your character getting permission from the government to wield the dagger. "License" if you will. No license? Red Card for you! Do not pass "Go", do not collect 200 gil. That is how Ivalice actually works. It is a silly place.

Lol screw that.. I don't have as much patience for people on the internet like I do in RL. Well.. lately I have.

You get higher combos with weapons higher up on the licence grid though and the term licence could easily be substituted for aptitude or the like *shrugs*.

Really it doesn't matter what you call them: Ability Points (FFV, FFX-2), Job Points (FFT), Sphere Points (FFX), Merit Points (FFXI), Stigma Shards (Aion), Specialisation Points (Warhammer Online) Skill Points (way too many RPGs to list), Eviity Points (Disgaea 3) they all represent the same thing at the end of the day: your character training to use that skill.

I mean really you can also apply the permissions logic to any RPG where you have to go up to a tutor and spend skill points to buy skills. Pokemon (move tutors and badges being required to use HMs) and Aion are the first RPGs that leap to mind. If that's the way you see how skill points convert to actual skills in RPGs then go for it since it does make logical sense. I just prefer to think of it as the training/learning thing myself

I liked the sphere points. I hope something like that is in XIV.

I was only half serious. But it does make some sense my way: Licensing the skill does not let you use the skill. Buying the skill does not let you use the skill. You need both. You purchase magick/technique training (or whatever it is) from a trainer, you trade LP for a license. I only apply this to FFXII, due to the way it works in that game, plus the context of the game's setting.

Though I like the idea of spells being thingamabobs you can buy from a street vendor. Or that they can spoil like produce, a la Chrono Cross.

License Board was garbage, never speak of it again.

The Sphere Grid wasn't too bad. I still like FF5/T's systems best as far as jobs go, but for total freedom, it's Materia or GTFO. Would be really cool to see Materia come back in an online setting. GF's wouldn't quite work IMO since well, the whole point was summons were unique (though FFXI kinda threw that out the window)

Japanese seems to want to do fancy things even for the simplest stuff. Optima in FFXIII, although it works well for the game, is very silly if you ask me.

lol you may want it like that in FFXIV, but i'd rather it be more like something like Ryzom than anything else...

What? Is this some crazy endgame thing? I'm a bit over 30 hours into CC and haven't run into Elements that spoil yet.

The fact that you don't like it doesn't make it garbage.

Materia was cool but it was very exploitable, not the sort of system you'd want for an MMO unless you impose extra restrictions or limit what can be equipped, and then it becomes nothing special.

I loved the Sphere Grid, I think it was on of FF's better leveling systems.

As for the license board, it comes in at second place for me as well, I totally 'ed it.

Yet the materia system garbage to me because it was highly restrictive and had no effect on how characters develop whatsoever...

Just because you didn't like something doesn't make it garbage .

If FFXIV isn't using a job system I wouldn't mind seeing something like the Sphere Grid system or License board system but knowing SE it's going to be like FFII...
