Regarding the purchase of endgame quality gear: I can't see it working. The goal of getting all that endgame gear is to go do more endgame. If someone were to purchase everything they needed there wouldn't be anything left for them to do. In other games it could work because people would just buy their gear and hit up the PvP circuit. The FF MMOs are specifically designed without PvP in mind. You would get your uber gear and suddenly realize their are no noobs to pwn and then what are you left with?

So you're saying SE's "stubborn refusal" to make more powerful gear is a problem?

C'mon now, you know as well I do that planned-obsolescence is the #1 way to murder endgame content. FFXI, to da\e - unlike any other MMO on the market - has kept its endgame content relevant and they've done so for good reason:

There are 20 jobs to play and you can be any of them.

Its not the refusal to make more powerful gear.

Its them not making end game content that the other classes will be more useful than the usual *Toss more sam at it* crap. They should make end game stuff that say... you need dancers for Aspir/drain sambas, as mp doesn't regen. Or make areas where the pets can only deal damage, and so on.

If you want an endgame LS where you can use your DNC or PUP, stop doing endgame with people that only subscribe to strategies that have been in place for the last seven years.

When I had a say in a linkshell, my jobs got used properly and I tried to give people a chance to shine where they could. When I didn't have a say, it was hell because my jobs just got used in the most bland, unthinking ways and never stayed around in those linkshells long because I cannot fucking stand that. I will not play the game like an actual job.

You pick your poison and you live with it. People adhere to cookie-cutter strategies for a reason - they work and don't require so much thinking. I liked to push people to think, so when I am not allowed to do so, I don't stick around.

I can't blame SE for what people do, MMORPG developers don't all major or minor in psychology.

I am not saying to completely replace end game. I mean to add more edngame content, that utilizes the other jobs as well. Also, change up end game every time some one enters the area. So instead of the same boss monster, it could change to a different one, that takes less physical damage. Or change to a guy that takes less magical damage, and drains TP every time it hits some one, as well as when ever some one hits it, they gain a bit less Tp.

They should change end game so its mixed up a bit, so the throw more sam at it, cant do too well all the time. Make it so that Blue mages are the most needed, or even pup, and dancer, and change the way the battles go on.

However, I am excited about these "Cash Shops". I don't have time to farm 6-7 million gil to get a roundel earring. I mean. If I catch my Limit of 200 Fish a day, (which can take 4-5 hrs) and then farm for another 2hrs, how much money would you say I make? 200 Black sole = 16ish stacks, 12k a stack. Round up to 200k. 200k a day, f'ing fishing... 5hrs is all i get to play on the week nights. So 200k / 5hrs = 40k/hr ... This is assuming that I only reel in Black sole, and that I cast as soon as possible. Now I have to wait for my 7 stacks a day to sell, but i'll get to that in a second

I've always found this rather depressing. I always have to stop leveling my main job for awhile until I am able to afford the new gear/spells/ammo or whatever. Now that I have a new way of making gil it takes a little less time but it still is hard. Like right now that I've finally approached the Matt fight on RDM I've had to stop while I upgrade everything... /sigh

If a cash shop helps me play, passale is fine I don't need to be uber, then I just might use it so I can actually have fun.

Having to halt one kind of grinding for another kind of grinding so you can continue the first is one thing about FFXI I will never miss.

I never understood why there wasn't an option to portion of some of the xp earned on your main job to go towards your subjob (something like 80/20).

But back on point, CS-able items should never be as good as game earned items. It's simliar to how items that can be bought and sold on the auction house should not be as good as something that is rare/ex (ie. Virtuous Belt vs Life Belt). Of course, this doesn't happen because... SE doesn't really adopt this philosophy.

All that the sub job, was just a time sink for SE to pull more money from you as you payed them to grind your support jobs. Thats all it was.
