Sometimes I don't understand the whole "super nerd" attitude toward things. Do some of you not have jobs, school, lives?

      For Example:
Badass Sword+1 : Time to farm/camp etc. to obtain: 30+ hours
Cost to purchase through SE : $20

      Time spent @ work making $20? : 1 hour

Time left to enjoy the game you're paying to play: 29+ hours.

Half the people that knock other MMOs that stay up to date with the current rate at which our society moves, haven't even played them to begin with. I've heard people say "I played wow, got to level 20 something, it sucks." and on the other hand I've heard people say FFXI sucked when they only reached level 12.

The days of everquest are over guys, this isn't YOUR game and SE, being a business wants to attract players.. which brings them more revenue. Every interview that comes out just sets this deeper in stone. There is no f*cking way (for lack of a better word) that FFXIV will even come close to touching WoW's player base without being more accessible to the common gamer.

How old were we when we started playing FFXI? 17? 18? Most of us are in our mid 20s now, who has 3-4 hours to sit around waiting for an HNM to pop? Bravo SE for developing a game that will really show the world what you're capable of.

edit* I also don't see Wada specifically referring to Gil anywhere in that statement. Items may just be that, the item itself, not currency.

I... don't think FFXIV should be a place to show off your real life wealth. Keep a game a game, please.

I understand where you're coming from. But in my point of view, I really don't want to compare the time I spent "playing" with the time I spent "working." We can work our ass off IRL, I'm sure we all do, but that shouldn't have anything to do with our gaming experience.

ya that is true. it's just people fear FFXIV might be too easy to the point that parties will be pointless until endgame. But I would like FFXIV to be more friendly than FFXI, so that's already an improvement. plus we have the first generation launch advantage being prepared for it (many people missed FFXI's launch. I didn't even get the PS2 HDD until around the year CoP was released. It was my first mmorpg. but this time I will be there during the Golden Age of FFXIV when everyone/most are grouping and helping each other often instead of lounging at a whitegate while looking elitist.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV a Serious WoW Rival, says Wada

I have played alot of games from their "dawn"(:D CoP ref) and decided that the economy and mechanics and just how little they updated the things that needed fixed were lacking. I didn't start playing FFXI until about 7-8 months after it came out; which was after the economy was already somewhat stabilized and people had a grip of the game mechanics. I think it's going to be completely awesome to start a game such as FFXIV from the very beginning considering alot of the people that played FFXI will be around as well. Shit I've even called a few of my friends from like 2004 FFXI(from various servers I've played on) and they all say that we will all make sure to be on the same server in one big ls/guild/whatever they make the social system.

In short; I think that FFXIV will be a hallmark to the MMORPG community even if alot of people don't like it when it first comes out. People like some of us will be part of that "Golden Age" when the new players come in a year or two later when the game is stabilized. I think it will be fun to mentor some of the new players and show them the ropes.

And one point that is very valid that I've seen is that yes alot of us that have or had high end characters got them that way while we were in highschool or college. Now I'm in the army ass deep in iraq without very much time to play; so I'm pretty sure SE realizes that alot of the FFXI community has become adults and that they will have to make the game more casual if they are going to pull in FFXI's players to make it feasible.

Well ted, come home safe hun, bunch of us back home waiting for you boys to get home.

Anyways, moving on. I'm excited about the new game as it's going to be new, there's going to be a lot to do, I hope. But i'm worried that they arn't making it all that different from ffxi. I'm also worried about the "oh well i played ffxi for such and such many years so I'm leet." Mind you we get that kind of crap already lol.

And yeah I hope they make it more adult oriented, realizing we have lives. Also some more couple friendly stuff! When ffxi first came out there wasn't much duoing to be done. Now it's possible to be done and actually gain something in the game. I hope they keep it that way.

To say the least I'm both excited about the new mmo and scared. I have been a fan of final fantasy in general since I can remember. I think it was final fantasy 3 when my brother brought it home. I used to sit and watch him playing it for hours on end. Anyways /end rant. You get my point!

OH MY GODZ! THEY'RE GOING TO CONTINUE SELLING ITEMS? I'M NEVAR GOING TO PLAY FFXIV NOW!

It's pretty sad when people judge a game based on things like this. They're never game breaking items, and even if they are, give your ego a break. So what if someone buys an item better than the ones you farmed. Get over it and play the game.

I doubt FFXIV is going to beat WoW at first. A lot of the people who play WoW have never played an MMO game before that. They're not the kinds of people to look around for other MMOs to play. Many of the WoW players I know haven't even heard of FFXIV, Everquest, Lineage, Aion, EVE, or even FFXI. They got into the MMO scene with WoW and will probably leave with it.

I'm sure the more MMO oriented players will try FFXIV at some point though. I'm just not expecting them to all rush over to FFXIV.

None of that matters though. If I find the game fun to play, that's all I need and all anyone should need.

Ego has nothing to do with it, I know many people that would be pissed, if they took 2 months to get a really nice sword, only to have an LS mate go and just buy one equal or even slightly better for any amount of money. It makes the time you spent getting said item worthless, and devalues the item itself.

As you said though, SE would not place anything game breaking into the item shop, if they even have a full item shop, witch I dont think they will.

That's true. I guess I just have a different opinion on it. The way I see it is, money is the same thing as time. It's like putting an hour at work into getting an item. Either way you're spending an hour to get the item. Just depends on what people want out of the game. Some people enjoy the farming, and the feeling that comes with achieving something. Some people don't want to spend the hour farming and are willing to sacrifice some of the money they worked for in RL for an item. Either way the currency is time.

Just my opinion on it, but either way, I don't think people should judge the game based on what SE does with this. In the end, it doesn't really matter what anyone else does. Play the game the way you want and enjoy it.

Oh I do agree, I will be playing it even if they do add in a full cash shop, as long as said cash shop does not start being mandatory to use, like other games that have them.

The whole point IMO is that the game has to be fun. A good developer will make that 2 months you work for your sword a great experience for you. If the devs can't do that and have to rely on cash shop, well, FFXIV will die fast....... Gawd I seriously hope FFXIV will be better than that.

I agree with Jei. My game life accomplishments should be seperate from my real life accomplishments. So what if I make lots of money IRL (hypothetically, cuz I'm actually broke broke), I shouldn't be able to "easy mode" (ie. pay) my way to good gear in an MMO. It really destroys the immersion and MMOs should strive to immerse the player in the game environment as much as possible.

The game should be designed well enough that a cash shop isn't neccessary for casual gamers to obtain great gear (whether aestheic gear or stat based gear). Cash shop feels like a cop out.
