I've seen this on a number of sites, and it looks like it's pretty much been confirmed;

Square Enix stages holds tie-up campaign for the next two numbered FF games.




November 6, 2009 - Final Fantasy XIII is likely to be the biggest title for the end of the year over in Japan. Smart marketers that they are, it looks like Square Enix will be trying to capitalize on the game's guaranteed success to promote a subsequent FF game.

This week's Shounen Jump magazine reveals that Square Enix will be including in each copy of Final Fantasy XIII a campaign code for next year's Final Fantasy XIV. The code will ship with the first print run of FFXIII (which will presumably be in the millions of units).

Just what the code does is a mystery at this point, but it is certainly surprising to see Square Enix pair two different numbered FF games like this.

Jump also offers a short glimpse at an expected feature for Final Fantasy XIII: Chocobos! You'll be able to ride the FF series mascot characters as you explore the vast fields of the Pulse lower world. Chocobos have a life meter which depletes when you run into an enemy. When this reaches zero, the Chocobo runs off, and you're left on foot.

We should be getting a closer look at FFXIII's Chocobo system next week, so be sure and check back.

So yeah looks like SE's doing exactly what I said they should; give early buyers of 13 an entry code into the beta. They're calling it a "campaign code" but what else would it be other than a beta invite? As much as I'll hate myself for it, I'll probably buy 13 when it comes out here if it means guaranteeing a spot for the beta.

Two gil it has nothing to do with the beta.
Three gil it has more to do with SE Members.

You mean like a free in-game item for people who enter the code and purchase 14?

That's possible, but that's the sort of thing you usually give out with a pre-order of the actual game.

Probably just an extra free 15 days of play when it goes live.

And do we actually expect Square-Enix to even beta test outside of Japan? I can't imagine much more than stress test/check for typos.

FFXI for x360 got a US beta test back then.

FFXIV might have a beta test for all regions, or at least during open beta.



maybe the campaign codes allows players to choose the secret Moogle race at launch?

They'd better;

- Final Fantasy is more popular outside of Japan than inside.
- Simultaneous World Wide Release
- English-only voice acting
- They've already expressed they want to start the beta early and get lots of player feedback before launch


So yeah, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot big time if they don't allow at least an NA beta.

Ever since the images hit 2ch that there will be a campaign code in the upcoming Japanese release of FFXIII for FFXIV, people have been debating what it could be for. Today, we have more official information straight from Square Enix.

In a FAQ on Square Enix’s Support Center site for FFXIII, it now says:

Q) ファイナルファンタジーXIII初回封入特典の「ファイナルファンタジーXIVã‚ャンペーンコード」とはどのようなものですか？

(translation) What exactly is the campaign code for FFXIV that will be included with the first edition copies of FFXIII?

The answer:

A) 「ファイナルファンタジーXIV」æ£å¼ã‚µãƒ¼ãƒ“ス開始後、パッケージをお買い上げいただき、このã‚ャンペーンコードを登録すると、「ファイナルファンタジー XIV」のゲーム内シークレットアイテムを入手することができます。ã‚ャンペーンコードやシークレットアイテムの詳細につきましては、今後の発表をお待ちください。

(translation) The campaign code can be redeemed for a secret in-game item for FFXIV. Once official service starts, customers will need to purchase a copy of FFXIV and then register the code to receive the item. Please wait for future announcements for more detailed information on the campaign code and the secret item.

No information at this time whether copies of the campaign code will be made available in overseas editions of FFXIII although it would probably be easy for them to do this.

LOL Not surprised

On a side note, please don't force us to get the FKN Japanese version just to enter an item code.... because I lost my Piano when I got the collections music CD, simply because I didn't have a JP version of POL.

When I went to go register the code to obtain the piano, the game wouldn't let me because I didn't have a Japanese version of POL.

Yea, thats how you obtain all of the stuff obtaineed by codes lol. It ptobably hasnt if you already put the code in, unless used codes expired... I don't think they do though... You can always try.
