    Re: FFXIV Real time battle?

If you go AFK during auto-attack while on DD, try also auto-target. You won't have to worry about losing your target during the fight and your AFk. However, you WILL have to worry about your guy running half-way accross the map after killing the mob and you're not back yet...

Also, I can't imagine having to button mash for standard melee attacking, that'd be horrible.

It'd probably end up playing similar to Phantasy Star Online if there was going to be epic button mashing. (I think PSU was like that too, but I didn't play it long enough to remember.)

          Re: FFXIV Real time battle?

Yeah, this is actually the only part I am currently not too excited about. I'm not looking forward to pressing a button to make my character attack every attack. I already replace controllers approximately every 6 months as it is. I like the idea of being engaged in the fight and not being allowed to leave my seat. But yeah, not sure how I could have both auto attack and forced engagement. Lol, this would be nice in FFXI, I could leveled shield skill on a single mob. Well, assuming MP outlasted the damage taken.

I don't know what the definition of button mashing is nor do I wish to use it in my post to describe what SE has said the attack feature will be like. However, I'm pretty sure I read there would be no auto-attack and that we would have to select our attack from available actions that we set for our characters. Fairly sure that means all regular attacks/swings with our main weapon.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At $40-$50 a wop, I don't think I'll be gaming that hard. If one of my controllers breaks, then it'll just stay broken. People will have to bring their own controllers over lol.

              Re: FFXIV Real time battle?

you don't press the buttons that often, there is a gauge that has to fill before you can do an action again,

the pacing will be like playing Final Fantasy 7 or any other FF with Active Time Bar, just with the speed maybe set the the fastest setting.

plus they said you can macro a sequence of actions to start when each one is allowed to be performed.

its not going to be an action RPG like PSU or MH -.- its going to be menu based like all the otehr FF games are, but think of it like having an active time bar, that you have to wait for, before you can do anything...

(oh so did not see jenova_9's post -.-)

The best example I can think of (other than WoW, but XIV has key differences ^^) would be FFX-2. For all it's faults, it had one hell of a good ATB.

Oh wow I never did. I mean there was more than 1 ability to use to do damage and kill the thing faster.

Damn... How much do you play? I've had my PS3 controller (I got a used system with a used controller), for almost a full year now, and it still works. I play A LOT as well, and I have never had to replace a controller. Same went for my PS2 (Except when my cat ate one of the cords >.<))

Thats exactly how I feel about FFXI. Its the same thing over and over. As a Rdm, you refresh/haste, and pop a cure here and there. As a Whm, Sch, Smn, you sit there, and just cure and rest. As a Smn, and A Blm, some times sch, all you do is pop up a large Spell, and rest for the fight after a few enfeebles. As a Melee, you just sit there and whack away while popping your abilities every 2-3 mins. As a Tank, you provoke, and cure/Utsusemi every time when needed.

FFXI is so simple when exping. I just hope that with FFXIV wanting more interaction from the player doesnt make it too hard, but makes it "challenging" as well as "fun" to grind rather than have the normal exp party and such.

To be fair I am talking about a Logitech USB controller for the pc, so not quite as durable as Sony's or MS's controllers, and cheaper by about 15$. I play FFXI on the pc but I do not like using the mouse. The latest one I replaced had an issue with the cord right where it came out of the controller. If it was moved in a particular direction it would lose connectivity. Unfortunately the new one seems to be exactly the same so now I have to think about how to avoid "damaging" it, even though I am not sure how I did the first one. I have in the past used an adapter that allows me to use a playstation controller on my pc but ocasionally it would "freak out" and my charcter would run in circles.

This is the way I understood it as well.

Wait, what? Okay, I will have to be patient and wait for more information. The way I interpret what you just said sounds great.

Ah, now that I can understand. One of my PC controllers, that I used to play ffxi, broke with no warning whatsoever. I'd be running, and then I wouldn't be able to control it. I don't know how many times I almost fell to the bottom floor in Garliage ;_;. I think it was a problem with the USB cable of some sort. I eventually just started using my PS3 controller, it was so much easier that way lol.

The wireless Logitech controllers are fairly nice. They don't lose connectivity easily, and theres no cord to worry about. The main issue is replacing the batteries though lol.

When I was at Best Buy I accidentally picked up the wireless and just for a second thought about getting it. Maybe I should and get a rechargeable battery kit so I will always have some.
