The best example I can think of (other than WoW, but XIV has key differences ^^) would be FFX-2. For all it's faults, it had one hell of a good ATB.

Back when I played Age of Conan it didn't have an auto-attack feature. You had to manually input every swing. They made the interaction more entertaining by allowing you to use one of three buttons to determine the direction of your swing (which could cause more or less damage depending on where your opponent was focusing his defenses). So a little thought went into each button press.

However, little things you couldn't do while pressing a button repeatedly to attack: type to your group in chat.

I posted pictures of it in another thread a while back. It's the Classic Pro or w/e the hell they're calling it. They added handles and changed the position of the triggers to be shoulder buttons since it's more comfortable.

If you don't care about rumble, you can use a PS3 Six-Axis (and I imagine the dual shock 3 as well) as a PC controller. Same exact size & shape, but a lot lighter. It's kinda like the PS2 slim in that respect... you fell like you're gonna break it when you hold it O.o
