Well just read the lifestyle story and one thing cought my eye......

"first step in food preparation is effective use of the target crystal"
    FFXIV Main Site

Just by this statement, it seems that we will be using crystals again to make things, lets hope that its a bit better then FFXIs ;p

I didn't mind this. I liked the Crystal idea for some reason.

Gardening with Crystals.. not so much

It doesn't mean its going to work the same way, though. Considering they aren't just "crafts" in this game, but actual professions like any other, I wouldn't imply they're getting the same system.

They haven't even said a thing about auction houses in the game, there might not be any. It could be straight-up barter/trade with a dash of the Monster Hunter upgrade/weapon creation style. In fact, given the popularity of Monster Hunter in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if FFXIV copycatted that system a bit. There already appear to be some elements of it there.

Pity they had to give characters eyepatch options, like that's not going to be a cliche within five minutes of starting the game. Then again, I'm all for thinning out the MMO gene pool as quickly as possible. Any Duskwight Elezen with "Dark," "Drizzt" or and combination of the two would be key to avoid just like anyone named "Cloud," "Sephiroth" or "Trunks" would.

I knoooow. After the gardening thing failed, I stopped crafting all together. So when people talk about crafting, I can't join in cause I have no idea wtf they're talking about cause I gave up on the whole thing.

not saying its going to be the same, just that its seems (at this point anyway) that there will be a slight influence from FFXI in the new crafting system. am sure it will be much different then FFXI, but still interesting that they are using crystals again ;p Also since they are Classes now, and not side professions, then it wont be as bad, "skilling up" a craft then it was in FFXI.

they are treating crafting Jobs as complete main jobs now, it would be insane to make them frustrating and serious grinds like before. everyone would just move to War and Sorcery.

Yeah, I hope they don't make grinding as hard as they did in XI. I still dread taking alchemy past 81.

In addition to the synthesis support they mentioned it would appear the craft-specific tools used will also have an effect on your synthing outcome.

the implements one chooses to use can have a profound effect on both flavour and yield.
One thing I read that did concern me was the following:

Aeleyora reminisces of days gone by, when her first attempt at any dish required that she add each ingredient individually in precise amounts.
While it does go on to hint that trivial recipes can be synthed quicker I have to admit at not being excited at the prospect of a million and one mouse clicks per synth.

Did you know? The meaning of Pharmacist in the Strongs Concordance translates to Sorcery.

you know these developers and producers and stuff should play and try to max out those crafts/classes themselves

and then decide if Alchemy, etc. is fun enough or too much of a grind. :p

Theyd just "God-Mode" themselves to max levels...

Well, I think it shouldn't necessarily be their goal to have *everyone* craft, so it's enough if enough people enjoy it to provide for a functioning economy. Which they already have in FFXI; even though some people complain about how much of a grind it is, there's enough that people can get the stuff they need.

it would be amazing if they make crafting painless, rewarding and fun without feeling like a grind.

Hand and Land Jobs will never be as popular as War and Sorcery, but maybe this time the crafting roles may have an
                              easier time with that style.
