My speculation is party setup would be like those multi-player shooter games (such as Counter-Strike):
It does not really matter which "weapons" you or your teammates pick. Once the battle starts to roll, the game will flow. In a sense players would need to adapt with the tools (weapons) available, or adjust their play style according to the team/party.
In some way we already seen this in FFXI Campaign Battles --- we throw bodies in there regardless of race, job, tools, or even levels (to a certain extend) ... at the end somehow it works out (or doesn't).
If we go beyond the model of party fights one mob at a time, with a fixed camp (location) and pulling --- the game-play could be something like tanks = campers + snipers (in shooter game) and DD = rush (in shooter game).
