lol PS3 limitations. You could always build a HTPC. I don't even own a regular desktop anymore.

about to turn my current PC into one of those, or at least I want to ;p

just have to make a few adjustments to it, and get a new case.

not sure if I really want to do it yet though, I might when I replace my current 52inch DLP TV, with a better 40-42 inch LCD TV

More like Developer laziness. PS3's limits aren't 720p..

And PS3 users don't have to worry about upgrading parts just to run it

You make it sound like 1080p takes more effort or something. Or like it's not a tradeoff with framerate, detail, effects, etc.

the smart PC builders don't have to, I build my current PC 3 years ago, and I add a small thing here and there when I feel like it, and now its "finished" and will last me another 3 years easy, with its current power. I have yet had the need to look at system requirements for any game I have played. Now I might have to start doing that in a year or so though.

As I said, MGS4 is still one of (if not the only) game to run native 1080p on the PS3. The only conceivable reason is for performance sake (lag) but honestly, the PS3 is still more powerful than most PC's so I don't consider that a viable excuse. Hell, apparently even MAG (currently in beta) runs completely lag-free and that's a 256 person shooter. To be perfectly honest, I've never experienced any lag, ever, playing on my PS3 online. Idk how Sony managed it but that thing handles online games like a champ.

So SE better have a damn good reason. Is it the end of the world? Hell no, I'm still getting the game, but I am very disappointed.

I don't think Sony handles anything with online gaming. All the tubes are set up by the developers who build the client- and server-side networking.

The PS3's RAM sucks, and so does its video card, I have more of both in my PC. THe only thing the system has going for it is the CPUs in it, and that will only take you so far. Also running a FPS and a MMORPG online are two different things, so you ahve no clue why its running on 720p, and not 1080p (like it matters anyway)

Hopefully there will be exclusive skills for each class as well that can't carry over, I don't want to s things that could define a close passed around too liberally.

Nice to see Skillchains are going to be here as well, but that they'll be implemented in a new way. Hopefully a way where they don't fall out of use this time.

In regards Many Vs. Many fights, I'm hoping this time that crowd control skills are balanced out well enough to make this style of partying practical. FFXI gimped that potential from day one and still has yet to have true crowd control, particularly under one job. Its just been watered down and spread out to many jobs in FFXI.

I doubt the Enchanter class is what it sounds like for FFXIV, its probably related to a craft skill, but in Everquest, Enchanters were gods of crowd control. they could bind, charm and have enemies fighting each other while the party whittled down the ranks. It was pretty exciting to be in the center of all the madness, sorting it out.
Ahh! Some thoughts I actually care about!

This game could be RO reskinned and I wouldn't give a shit, if the gameplay was good enough. FFT-styled ability setting was always more of what I wanted from FFXI. Though honestly, playing FFT, I always thought their system could've been made more robust (I always envisioned something like Blue magic points but I'm not the game dev). Regardless, this is an opportunity for them to bring back some classics, vastly expand them, and then smash into brand new mechanics at around 80 mph. Let's hope they do it right.

Crowd Control is great and all, but that's also what melee DD are supposed to be for. A party of sayyyy 2 melee DD, 1 tank, 2 support classes could end up with crowd control locking down some baddies (or vastly debuffing most of them), each melee tanking 1-2 mobs and the dedicated tank rounding up an entire horde. OR, the game could be more focused where the enemy party is only 3-5 mobs: just having the tank full time 2 while the DDs share hate with another and the support lock down the remaining mobs.

Either way, the point is: from day 1, I expect to regularly kick people from my groups if they just want to DD and not actually help at all.

And I don't know about TP and skillchains in 14. I'm imagining a game where a skillchain takes place every other combat "round". And I'm liking it. Perhaps some skillchains will be effect-driven instead of additional damage (your hit breaks his guard and my overhead slam knocks him off balance. Evasion reduced for 15 seconds).

Re: Interview with Tanaka and Komoto from TGS

Well, my point was that as an Enchanter, it was a blast to have many vs. many types of fights while being a supporting character. If there was a bad pull, it was up to me to resolve the links so my buddies could wear down the main mob before moving on to the next. The best was that I could have the next mob sufficiently whittled down with a charmed one before the party got around to it.

A rouge could have a bad pull, bring back four minotuars. They take the first, I charm the second, send the second after the third and bind the fourth while my party attended to the first mob safely. All while refreshing mana and doing other useful things.

Its fun when everyone else gets a chance to crowd control, too - CoP Mine Shaft fight springs to mind - but there's a different edge to it when its all on you.

It's got 512 MB and the RSX is still a pretty powerful card, 2x as strong as the 8800 GT nVidia series.

Just cause it doesn't take a lot doesn't mean people aren't lazy.. and 1080p on an MMO may not be difficult to do, but they wont cause it'll lag.

Not every smart PC builder has the money to do that..

They had to sacrifice graphics a bit though.. so definitely no 1080p for MAG cause it will LAG if they did..

Well.. if you got the money.. no console will compare in graphics or RAM.. but not every PC is built like yours either..

This actually is the reason most devs run games in 720p native, then upscale the background to 1080p for both 360 and PS3. Look it up.
