Re: FFXIV needs (job) to be awesome.

What's wrong with Dark Knight!? lol. I love Knight classes too. I haven't played FFT, but I have seen a holy knight with a cape. They're pretty cool. Before FFXI was launched, I already had it in my mind that I was going to be a DRK with a cape. And when I found out capes don't show, I was heart broken lol.

I'm not one of those assholes that goes around talking about what jobs he wants to see down to what weapon they yield and what their evasion grade is. I was clearly speaking in a general sense: that the summon is linked much more heavily to the player's conduct and control; so that the player is effectively using the avatar as their character instead of their character. Whether that means directly controlling the avatar itself, while the player follows along behind it (somewhat like the Pokemon Trainer example that Armando gave), or having the player literally morph into the summon, or the player is absorbed by the summon and protected by it (think Yuna's Falafel form in X-2), or all of the Summons are actually mecha and the player is the pilot.

      It's a general concept.

I actually like some of those ideas for summons, mainly the last one where the SMN is absorbed and protected by the Summon while it fights in the SMNs place. The mecha one seems pretty sweet too.

well I just like the" neutral" or "light" type of Knights, instead of the dark or silly onion knights, that's all.

but ya FFT's knight selection is heaven for knight fans of all kinds. xD (although technically, you could only choose normal Knight job (which did
have my favorite uniform for knight.)

War of the Lions added Dark Knights available, but Arc Knights, Temple Knights, and Divine Knights were not available as a job choice unless you hacked the game. The only ones that had those special jobs were special characters that join or enemies in the story.

oh yes there was also Heaven Knight and Hell Knight, but they had the worst random abilities and clothes lol.

also, Divine Knights were sometimes referred to as "Shrine Knights" in the story.

Who says Dark Knight has to be "Dark". Its just how they are played. Hell, Batman is considered as a Dark Knight and hes a good guy.

well if they are Dark Knight type then there's obviously something dark about them, otherwise they aren't Dark Knights. :p
              not even Shadow Knights :p

But define dark.. doesn't mean they're evil if that's where you're getting at.

                  Dark Knight

Dark Knights are the embodiment of sorrow, regret, and mourning; they wield dark magic dedicated to stealing the health of an enemy. Their special attacks usually involve draining their own health — or, in some cases, sacrificing themselves — to inflict heavy damage on the enemy.[10] Some of the most notable dark knights in the series include Leon/Leonhart (Final Fantasy II), Cecil Harvey (Final Fantasy IV),[10] Goffard Gafgarion (Final Fantasy Tactics) and Zeid (Final Fantasy XI). Dark Knights are also found in Final Fantasy III,[3] Final Fantasy X-2, and Final Fantasy XI. In Final Fantasy XI, they are a damage dealing class with the highest base attack in the game but have relatively weak black magic spells other than their dark magic.[22] They do not appear in Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX, but their trademark Darkside ability is learnable. In Final Fantasy XII, the Soul Eater ability and the Arcane class of magic are learnable. In Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, characters can use the Dark Knight class. This differs from Gafgarion's version of the class, which is renamed Fell Knight.[28]

Dark Knights are like vampires... but good vampires.

Like Angel or Edward Cullen. :D

Re: FFXIV needs (job) to be awesome.

SE fudged NIN pretty badly in XI...

They got all the concepts done right, and the AF/Relic sets match this. The problem was the implementation; the job is just too expensive to use it's full potential. And even then, the only OP aspect of a NIN with unlimited funds would be Fuma Shuriken as the San spells won't do any major damage without the aid of /BLM (or RDM) and H.Q. Staves.

I like how they structured NIN & it's gear & abilities, I just don't care for how absurdly difficult it is to do anything except blink tank. I'm praying they do a better job of keeping it's costs in-line in XIV.

Preeeetty sure that's what they were going for.

You know what the real problem was/is? Utsusemi.

                          Yes & No. I agree that Utsusemi was (and still is) game-breaking, but NIN is needlessly expensive;

Even COR doesn't pay out the nose the way NIN does for it's tools, and the costs don't even compare. Cards aren't that expensive, and Bullets, while pricy, last you a good while especially if you have a joyeuse.

Ninjtusu tools are pretty bad but they didn't have to be. COR gets all of it's cards NPC'd for cheap AND all made under 1 craft; this is where they fucked NIN over. They spread out all the ninjutsu recipes across different crafts making it impossible for a career NIN to cheaply supply their own tools with a single character. The other money jobs can all do this, and get more bang for their buck too so why does NIN have to be the bastard child?

Shuriken didn't need to be that expensive either. Lower the DPS on them a bit (they are whicked powerful, even stronger than relic weapons) and adjust prices accordingly; NIN has a ridiculous amount of gear for enhancing throwing attacks, yet it goes completely to waste to all but the obscenely wealthy.

That;s pretty much why I never picked up NIN..
