  • FFXIV needs (job) to be awesome.

which job would make FFXIV an even more important day one purchase for you?
And no, don't argue that FFXIV doesn't have jobs, because it does, even though this time, the roles/class types are
expressed through weapons instead of raw titles. They can name something different like a Gladiator, but it's still a Warrior at heart, even if it plays different classic FF Warrior. Just like anything that deals nuking and elemental magic damage is basically a Blackmage. and Archer and Ranger are basically the same deal.

To me, Ninjas would be the real frosting on the cake (with rainbow sprinkles!)
FFXIV could provide Ninja Swords alongside the other weapons at launch and it would be lovely!

Ninjas deserved to be redeemed and brought back to their awesomeness in past FFs.
the Ninjas skillset in FFTactics was molded to fit that battle system, but it basically has everything a Ninja should
have in FFXIV (well Ninjutsu would be nice too! but no Ninja Tools! Learn from Edge in FFXIV! He didn't need tools to use
ninja magic! We should just need the scroll to learn it, and just MP to use it.)

yes ninjas always draw lots of attention and sales!

Samurai had all the fun in FFXI and were lucky they were designed to play as they should,
Ninjas need to be awesome this time in FFXIV! And don't turn Thiefs into Ninja hybrids or Ninjas into abused tanks!
Ninja =/= Thief. even though FF1 Thief upgraded into a Ninja, they shouldn't be treated as one and the same.

Ninjas have originated in the series since the first Final Fantasy. They deserve to be in FFXIV as much as any other basic job style. And we shouldn't have to wait until an expansion to be able to become a Ninja!
    RPGClassics.com - Final Fantasy

I'm positive SE will make Ninja available in FFXIV, even if they are named something different like Shadow Dancer or something.
Dual-Wield, Throw, Ninjutsu, are a must. They should also be one of the best damage dealing types.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeAGYT-pPTc"]YouTube - Ninja Scroll - Kagero!!![/ame]

With FFXIV giving each job more skills to play with, Ninja can be far more interesting than ever before in a Final Fantasy.
oh yea and cool types of Ninja clothes are a must. I dunno how FFXIV's Ninja gear is going to top the original Ninja AF (the only bad piece was the head piece, didn't like it, it should of just been a headband without those ear guard thingies. I didn't wear the headpiece cause it didn't look good.) it looked so elite overall. xD

and even though FFXI NIN didn't do NIN justice, it was still wuved.

So yes, feel free to rave about your most wanted job in FFXIV. It may be called something different, but so far we have seen Warrior, Ranger and Monk return, even though they are not called or play exactly like they used to. (a Pugilist that punches things with knuckles, yea that's a Monk.)

Not concerned with jobs because the choices will grow over time as new weapons are introduced. Twenty different weapons will keep people busy for a while.

More interested in hearing about how involved crafting professions will be in the world and all these forms of transportation we've been seeing. And more abou the factions. Jobs are a given.

not necessarily. SE is aware that they also need to make it possible for players to main only one Job/weapon if they feel like it.
Switchign between weapons is more of an thing soloers can take advantage of, but for parties, they really only need one job/weapon to succeed.

They still have to confirm what kind of jobs will be available. I mean it would be a shame if Dragoon fans can't be a dragoon of any kind because the spears might not have the Jump skill, or some other reasons. well Dragoons don't need a wyvern, but Jump is like a very important skill. Red Lotus Blade and Provoke are back, so I think they are borrowing from things they done in the past.
Overall it is more likely jobs will return than how the factions will work.
But really the core gameplay that drives players to keep playing are the Jobs first.

not really, you could put what ever job you want in FFXIV, but if the battlesystem and story suck, then it would not be played. Lance users will have some form of a jump command, that can be asumed by logic and how weapons are linked to classes in other FF games.

Why does the lance class have to have jump? Why not the Ninja?

because ever since Final Fantasy III on NES, Dragoon has had Lance as a weapon and Jump as a special command.

Re: FFXIV needs (job) to be awesome.

I just they don't make Ninja (If they add it) into an "evade all" type of job. They should be a hybrd. High eva, and high attack/speed with a "decent" (Aka low, but not too low that they cant take hits) defense. Have Utsusemi, but make it so it has a 50/50 chance to take damage and not use up tools. More of a system as they hit the mob and gain "points" that can be then used to cast Utsusemi.

But... What I would LOVE to see is an Assassin class.

                  Pros would be...

                  High Crit rate
                  High Attack speed
                  Can use two weapons
                  High Eva
                  Faster movement
                  High Accuracy
                  Great with trowing weapons.

                  Cons would be...

                  Low def
                  Cant use 2 handed weapons.
                  Can only use light armor
                  Low Hp
Depends on high evasion to avoid damage (Not like Ninja now where they can cast utsusemi.)
Dependent on the parties positioning, and the Assassin's (So, if you want to have a high crit rate with high damage you need to be the only one standeing behind the mob. To have higher def, and eva, you need to stand in front of the mob and be the only one and so on.)
                  Cant take many hits.
Has no way to self heal.
Their weapons depends on how they attack (Daggers fast attacks low damage, sword decent speed, decent damage Axes Low speed, high damage and so on. )

Re: FFXIV needs (job) to be awesome.

The important thing is seeing first what there already is in FFXI, and then thinking about how other classes would apply.

FFXI, for example, was a HORRIBLE match for SMN, and a pretty great match for BLU, but we got that order reversed.

SMN was just a bad job to add in the first place, because people always want it to be like the summoning of other Final Fantasy games. It just doesn't work as a job in that sense because it would be so powerful no one else would play any other job.

I'm hoping FFXIV forgoes a SMN class in favor of something closer to a junction or magicite kind of summoning.

I'd kinda like to see SMN implemented as more of a 'transformer' class. As in, you become the avatar, instead of having it as a pet. Somewhat similar to the summoning in FFX or KH. Keep the mythology, while still being able to keep it from getting too broken.

Ah.. Never played FFIII. I was just curious anyway since everyone thinks jumping in armor is ludicrous but not in armor with a lance.. But that's beside the point..

I want to see a DRK class definitely.. It was my favorite job from XI and I hope something like it's back in XIV.
