    Re: New TGS trailer!

    I'm liking the look an feel they are aiming for this time around specially with it following so close to FFVI in terms of the things were are seeing. It was pretty nice to see at least some in-engine work in the mix, I'm sure the final polish will make the game shine as I'm always amazed at what square-enix can push out with technology even under console constraints.

      are people just ignoring the fact that there was "in-game" stuff in the first trailer?

        Not at all, just (at least in my case) a failure to agree on what is “in-game”.

        For instance, in the first trailer there’s the shot of the sea monster jumping the ship with huge sheets of water falling down from it and the ship’s sails as a hume/hyur/whatever they’re calling them this time around watches it pass overhead. The human in that scene is obviously a lower-poly model, probably even the character model we’ll use in-game.

        I believe the animators are simply using them in their CGI scenes rather than recreating the elements from scratch, and maybe specifically for that E3 trailer. I think that’s the case with the entire ship battle.. I just feel some of the elements and effects in those scenes aren’t things you’ll ever see real-time while playing the game. But, like I said above, I wouldn’t mind being incorrect about this and otherwise pleasantly surprised. If that’s how an in-game on-ship battle actually ends up playing out, then their engine and interface (particularly for an MMO) must be insanely awesome.

            the only ingame part of the first trailer was the boat. and very hard to see the detail of the in-game details.

            This trailers showed a lot of close ups and panning and examples of clothes in-game and stuff. As well as possible emotes, positions, and in-game cutscenes too.

            the first trailer was like 5% in-game. the new trailer is about 20% more in-game graphics shown.

                No This Just Showed More

                I know the boat scene in the first trailer showcased in-game stuff but it was more a glimpse then a "oh here have a look" that this trailer shows off, it gave us more a feel of what to expect then that first trailer ever could have and I don't know yet if that boat scene is gameplay.

                I mean it seriously looks more like a cutscene then gameplay to me honestly, if we seriously take on that many jellies while taking a trip across the sea then I'm going to love to see endgame :D

                    Not to mention the way the Roegadyn clocks one of the jellyfish over only to come back and catch it again during it's mid-tumble with his reverse swing. That and the gratuitous amount of jellyfish matter flying all over the screen while he bats it around like a pinata.

                      Its important to say...

                      In-game graphics != Gameplay graphics

                        I still think though if gameplay was like that at some point in the game it would be badass, it would be a nightmare for a white mage like myself though considering if something doesn't have hate I'm going to be running away a lot more then I'd like otherwise or like I do now run into the fry to get it drawn off me.

                              You need sources before making those kinds of claims.

                                well it only takes common sense to realize that the full release is in 2010, and they have been talking about the beta since two months ago. They are only quiet now because they are letting FFXIII promotions calm down for a month or two in Japan, and then pull out the FFXIV bandwagon again.

                                The beta is in fact already happening, though that's isolated within developers and select testers.
                                But the closed beta invite version of the test before full public open beta will surely be early 2010.
