Amen haha... Upgrades are only necessary every few years depending on what your computer is used for, because gaming on PC does not cost all that much in retrospect.

That weather video was nice, it really leaves you wondering how the seasons are going to look like ingame if they've managed to get weather looking that good.

Besides FFXIV at launch will look the same for the next 8 years, it already looks good enough. People willing to spend more just to make it look a little better will never be satisfied with the visuals.

besides since when does an mmorpg get an entire new generation of graphical overhaul? after a decade, might as well
make a new mmorpg with new hardware, and by then, people can simply just buy a PS4 without needing to look up system specs and taking their system apart.

But I guess some love PC because they can treat it like a car. They love doing the dirty work. :p
Of course you save money. You save because there is no possible method of getting a better version until the PS4 releases, at which point you're dropping another $600/700/whateversonydecidestochargeyou for the new system that only supports the hot new games that you'll be orgasming over.

And good luck getting over your PS3's technical issues. Any internet guide will cover solutions for my PC provided I actually know what I put in it, but you're paying to ship your PS3 back to Sony for service if anything goes wrong with it.

I have a warranty with the store, so I can switch it without needing to mail it.

And technical issues? ha! consoles have less technical issues compared to PC. and if there any issues, they haven't interfered with the gaming aspect of the console.

That's one advantage of consoles is that it's made for gaming and games are optimized for it. A game on one PS3 will look and run the same on any PS3, not worse like PCs with hardware that is not as good as PS3.

And you are only looking at the broader sense of time. 8+ years of playing FFXIV without needing to pay a dime
upgrading my PS3 over those years, is well worth it.

I'm sure those who love FFXI and are still playing on PS2 compared to how much money they would be paying for PC upgrades, feel the same way of the savings, comfort and still enjoy the game regardless. and by now, replacing a PS2 is cheaper than replacing, fixing, upgrading a PC.

and who said anything about other hot new games?

I had it with 60 dollar games that only offer a few dozen hours of gameplay and the only multiplayer they offer are competitive skirmishes and small grouped co-op with very limited goals, basic growth and no real community.

an MMORPG like FFXIV is really all I would want to play unless the next FF mmorpg in about 8 years proves to be better.

            Again you bring this up.

If your PC is already at least as good as a PS3 then you're not obliged to continue to upgrade it. It's a moot point.

I'm relating it to PC gamers who play stuff besides the next best mmorpg.

So it's not a moot point since Burning panther brought up this argument with the idea that I play other games and plan to continue playing other games besides an mmorpg these days. From a multi-genre gaming perspective, yes a PC gamer is more likely to upgrade their PC than a console owner who plays multiple games over the years. Because PC games typically demand better hardware every few years since new games take advantage of the new technology. And even console gamers will eventually buy a new system for more games.

But for people who still play an mmorpg since last generation, it would take something really huge like a really good and really new mmorpg to buy a new system for it. I'm sure it's the same for those who upgrade PC for the best specs for an mmorpg, and don't upgrade it until a new gen mmorpg comes along that interests them.

Again there's no wrong choice as long as the person prefers that platform for their own reasons instead of other people's opinions. PC and consoles have their own advantages and conveniences. That's why both continue to exist and sell a lot.

                Re: More screens from dengeki

The only downside to PC is that devs make games to use the latest and greatest in technology, and with consoles, it's already made to fit your system. I think there's a huge win/loss with both machines.

I prefer my console over a PC though. The life expectancy for the PS3 is 10+ years. So there's 10 years of games that I wont have to worry about buying a new graphics card, or more RAM.

Which is really equating apples to oranges, since someone that was already in the habit of buying the next big graphics-sucking PC game is going to do so regardless of whether he got FFXIV on the PS3 or the PC.
Because PC games typically demand better hardware every few years since new games take advantage of the new technology
To play them at max settings, yes. To play them at all, no. Usually the max setting borders on the verge of graphics fetishism.

I really don't see how you can go go from "It's named Mammet" to "It's definitely a mob type, not a pet."

                        Likely? Sure. But not surely.

I don't recall dragoons in past FF games having dragons for pets, surely not as they do now.

Anyone notice on the main website in the intro, it talks about 4 city states, but only shows 3? Ishgard isn't shown on the website as a city state in the pics, but it is mentioned. It says it's a bastion ontop of mountains.
