Are you talking about oversized armor for Shamans and Warriors? My Rogues armor fit him pretty nicely

A quick google search reassured me that this all isn't in my head.

I ask you, what the fuck is that?

Why the hell does a rogue have plate armor with pauldrons? Why are the pauldrons so big? This is the exact same thing I complained about when I had a room mate that played WoW 2 years ago. His rogue had plate-like armor with big-ass pauldrons too. In fact it seems to be that EVERYONE in WoW has enormous shoulder plates for no reason, usually with all sorts of gaudy ornaments. Those leggings and gauntlets don't even make sense. Looks like they took that typical folded-over leather boot and glove (the kind of boot you'd find Link wearing) and applied a metal-like texture over it. And the weapons I've seen aren't much better. *shudder*

WoW only has about a handful of unique armor models, not counting shoulders and heads, but you wont see any unique head models until end-game. Leather, mail, and plate share pretty much all the same models, while cloth looks unique because of their gowns hiding all their other armor. I guess they decided they could only go balls to the walls with one thing, so they took shoulders and ran with it.

I like that though. That's what I liked about my DRK's AF. PLD and DRK were my favorite AF's cause they were big like that.

I like DRK's AF as much as the next guy. That doesn't mean I want every goddamned class to look like a DRK.

I think PLD and DRK were the only 2 with big armor in XI. But you're right with everyone in WoW having huge shoulder pieces. least they didn't look similar.

It comes from their decision to make shoulders a separate and visible equip slot. Then you have to design the shoulder armor models so that people can recognize your epic shoulders from 40' away, because what's the point of having gear if you can't show it off?

Also, I don't remember any FF games where you can have Monkey Grip and Dual Wield at the same time. In FFTA2 for example they both require the same support ability slot - so you can wield a 2h weapon and shield (if your job is naturally shield using), but DW only works with 1 handers. And of course in many games including FFXI Monkey Grip doesn't even exist, so I don't see any particularly good reason to expect it to be in FFXIV. It undermines the differences between 1h and 2h weapons, which would be particularly bad in a game where your class is defined by your weapon.

The possibility of mixed DWing does seem interesting, but I doubt they will allow it. More likely DW will be bound to specific main hand weapons, and allow only appropriate-to-the-class offhands (so you can't DW clubs or hammers at all). No subjobs, remember? That means, possibly, no abilities portable outside their own job.

Unless they use the FFT system: equip a small number of abilities from other classes to your current class. I'd really only enjoy a system where you could dual wield a sword + club if there were plenty of reasons not to. As you stated with FFT: slotting dual wield means giving up something potentially better. If no more than 25% of characters are dual wielding different-classed weapons, it's not at all a bad thing. If it's the only way to be good, the game servers need to suffer a tragic fire.
