Yeah, testing is one thing I look forward to in FFXIV as well. Figuring out the enmity formulas for damage was great fun. I recently proved to myself that the defense and evasion of Marsh Murre make them better targets than Lesser Colibri if you have all of the spawns west Nashmaru to your party. Their defense is just a few points higher (about 1%) and they actually have slighly lower evasion. Stack that with the ability to eat food (Marinara Pizza; Yes, Please!), and it is complete win.

Did you end up getting merits? There need to be more incentives for Lv75 casual players to continue improving their characters. Helping new players doesn't require me to pimp my characters, so I just don't feel the drive to get merits. The reason I ended up trioing San'doria Mission 9-2 is because I cannot play SAM and RDM together well enough in overly complicated situations. It had nothing to do with a lack of merits. However, I think I could have eventually won in a duo with enough tries.

Has someone figured out how level sync affects weapons and armor? I've considered testing this since I have two accounts. For instance, what happens to the damage and delay of my Partisan+1 and Engetsuto at Lv50? Armor should be easier since your equipment menu displays your defense and attributes.

As far as I'm aware with weapons, the damage is dropped to the highest AH-able NQ weapon that is crafted or available from NPC.
The delay is not changed, making weapons like the Loxley Bow highly broken due to their usually very low damage difference in relation to their normal weapon level being brought closer to the synced level's weapons.

Hmm... the reason Loxley Bow is highly broken when severely level sync'd isn't so much that it suffers less from damage syncing - at 12 base damage, it would theoretically be one of the weakest weapons in the game. What makes it powerful is that most of the damage comes from the ammunition you use, and its ridiculous rate of fire (plus the sizable advantage that ranged weapons have at low levels in both damage and accuracy).

Even so, considering it's probably the only true beneficiary of the level sync'ing system, and doesn't really affect many other elements, I don't really think anyone will bother to fix it at this late date.

I'm glad that there won't be a leveling system like FFXI. Because i was a pain in the ass to grind for levels and it was more painfull to level 2 jobs. They are also trying to attrack every time of player to the game which I find very nice.

I have a feeling many people are setting themselves up for a big letdown..... just because there are no levels, does not mean you wont be grinding -.-

Depends on how the grinding is. I feel much confortable knowing that this game will be more smooth and less party orienting than FFXI. The guileve seems to be like a nice concept for a casual gamer like me.[COLOR="Silver"]

That was the reason why i've stopped playing FFXI back then. I had a hard time quitting the game and when WoW and Oblivion came out, FFXI was just garbage. Oblivion was really my FFXI killer because I didn't feel like I needed to grind to enjoy the game.

FF2 is a good example of playing the game with no experience points and level up.

yeah and in FF2 you had to grind, almost worse then in other FF games...... I hated FF2 -.- but I forced myself to play/beat it for completion sake.

                  Re: What, no levels?

FF2 is an example of a game without EXP, but it's one of the worst possible examples you could use. "Uh, I need more HP. I know! Let's beat the shit out of my own characters."
I recently proved to myself that the defense and evasion of Marsh Murre make them better targets than Lesser Colibri if you have all of the spawns west Nashmaru to your party. This sounds very odd. From what I remember BG pinned Colibris as RDMs based on their stats. They should have worse Evasion than a WAR type mob as a result. Are Marsh Murres not WARs?
Did you end up getting merits? There need to be more incentives for Lv75 casual players to continue improving their characters.
I get merits at my own pace, mostly. I seldom actively look for EXP parties, but generally when I'm online I have something to do. FoV (for augments), skill ups, Campaign grind, etc all yield me EXP. I have Chivalry and Fealty unlocked, Lv.4 Sword Merits and I think Lv.1 crits too.

For Level Sync armor, my observations were that for any given slot, each stat will usually end up matching the amount you can get of that stat in that slot using non-HQ, non-NM gear. For instance, in the teens, Tarasque Mitts will yield +3 Attack because of Ryl.Ftm.Gloves but Amemet Mantle won't give you anything because there's no +Attack capes. There are of course exceptions and this may not be the actual algorithm the game uses but it usually works.

I never played FF2. So what do you mean by attacking your own player for HP?

The more damage your characters take the more Hp they have.

Over all Hp? Like 50/100 then I get attacked and then it grows to 50/120??? or 50/100 I get attacked then it grows to 60/100?

When you get hit you gain Hp Exp, and everytime you gain enough, your hp would increase by a set amount.

Its been a while so I'm not really sure...

Yeah pretty much. Beat up your character enough and his max HP will go up after the fight.

Bonus points if you're using magic to nuke your own characters because then you're also raising your max MP AND increasing that spell's level! But then you're not improving your weapon rating like you would by smacking your characters around with Attack.

                            Ugh I hate that game.

Ahh.. that's actually kinda cool. Instead of gaining level and gaining HP and MP and your stats increasing.. they just increase after every fight. That's actually kinda cool cause you're not gaining Experience Points, just Experience to develop.. ooooooh.. Dude that's pretty neat. But then again on paper it may be cool, till you try it out for yourself huh?

It's not going to go up after every fight. The more you have, the harder it is to increase again. And mobs still have levels if I remember right, so you still need to fight stronger mobs to keep increasing your combat skills.

It was still a grind, but it was a much dumber grind than usual. Not to mention all the characters were totally generic and could equip any weapon or armor and learn any spell without limitations.
