It wouldn't be a problem graphically to have a sword and a bow on your back. Hell, the elf guy in LotR had two swords and a bow on his back all the time and he never looked too bad.

It's when you have a Bow, a great sword, a great axe, a scythe, a lance, a spear, a hatchet, a hammer, a broadsword, a knife, a staff, a wand and a gun hanging all over you that it would start to be an issue.

Without zones, how the hell are we going to run from the linked or unintentionally aggroed mobs? I see the armoury system working a little bit like BLU spell using is setup. I also see the equipment itself being different in the way the augment system makes each equipment different.

There's still zones, just not ones you have to load into. In EQ you can see the lines of a new zone, and in WoW it of course said when you were in a new zone.

I believe a maximum pursuit distance was used in WoW.

Re: FFXIV... look closer for hints... Colored Armor, etc!

why would it? you would not have to worry about any equipment swap macros, just swap your weapon and your done.
Why is it inconvenient? Because you have to set your armor in town. Several problems with this:
                1) You may not know what you'll be up against at the time you enbark on your little adventure. You get to some place, realize you really could've used X or Y piece of equipment - or several pieces - and now what? You're stuck with your decision.
                2) Worse yet - you change your mind. For whatever reason, you realize whatever activity you had planned wasn't gonna work out, then what? Instead of going straight to your new destination, you gotta go back to town AND waste your time there. See 3.
                3) It wastes time. Gotta do it in town always, as opposed to, say, while you're riding a ferry or airship to your destination, or hell, while you autorun on your chocobo. Having to assess the gear set you'll use for each job while in town is about as fun and productive as having to rearrange your inventory completely when changing jobs or having to mule.

Wanna get rid of gear swaps? Simple. Changed gear? You don't get its stats until X amount of time has elapsed. X can be whatever Square deems appropriate. 30-60 secs is already more than long enough to screw most attempts at switching something in specifically for 1 action - especially if you let it add up, such that two consecutive swaps incur twice the time penalty. If you're really paranoid, you could set it up to 2-3 minutes. If you don't get the Defense/armor rating/whatever benefits during that downtime, either, then that's also a pretty powerful deterrent against changing your entire gear set in the middle of a fight - you'd be fighting naked and leaving yourself open for a good assraping.

Don't have to come up with some convoluted system where you gotta set your equipment in stone while you're in town to do that.

EDIT: Hell, you don't have to go as far as the 2 scenarios I mentioned. Just look at Nyzul Isle. It throws a very wide and random array of monsters at you. In one floor you may want some Magic Defense gear, in another you may want more Defense. In another you may want assloads of Accuracy for when you get one of those goddamned THF mobs.

I don't like gear swapping, but that doesn't mean you should take away the flexibility of being able to equip yourself appropriately for whatever situation may come your way. BLUs don't have to set their spells in stone while in town, they simply have spell downtime if they change even the slightest entry in their spell list.

They would eventually stop chasing you after a while. I mean. Would you really chase some one for ever if they got you mad at them? I sure as hell wont, I'm too lazy for that lol. But, there will be people who will chase for ever, and not stop until you are dead, or they are dead. It will add more realizm to the game. I like games that are "Zoneless". Thats was one thing that I did like from WoW. I liked it so that every 5 minutes you don't have a loading screen. Stuff loads as your aporoach it from X feet, and stuff unloads as you get further away from it.

At Armado. Some people simply HATE gear swapping, thats why some one had mentioned that. I don't like it either, and it will add a more "strategic" feel to the game as you will have to prepare for anything that might come your way. You have Acc, and Def armor locked in one set, so you go out, and find out that you need magic def armor on the next run. So, you go back to town, and get your mag def armor with acc as well, and go back out and start killing the stuff. But, if the mobs are always different, not always magical, not always offensive, defensive W/E, then it will add a ton of new stratagy to the game as you will not know whats coming, and will need to b prepared for anything and everything.

So, you go back to town
Problem. Pos hacking isn't a legal maneuver. Traveling takes time. We're trying to move away from meaningless timesinks, not introduce more of them.

If you don't want people changing equipment between waves of mobs, make the downtime penalty for gear swapping longer. There isn't a damned good reason you could give me why you should force players to go back to town to rearrange their gear.

I know. Time sinks suck. But, if they do a system like that though, they will probably do OP Warps.

Or... Have you played Champions RTA? They could buy Warp Scrolls, and when they warp out of the zone to the warping place, they can change their gear, and warp back using the same scroll, then it rips.

The thing with the down time is that people will wait those two minutes when they gear swap. They go out in offensive, and they need defensive. They swap gear and say "/p We need ot wait 2 minutes, I changed my gear" And they will wait until the time is done. I think that needing to wait for stats to kick in is a dumb idea, it will work, but people will just wait it out until they are able to start fighting again.

Or, if you accidentally gear swap. That can cause a few issues.

I was hoping they'd have something like the doppelganger soul in Dawn of Sorrow. Multiple equipment pages and you just macro "/equip page 1" or something.

A simple "in combat" flag would be good if they want to prevent rapid equipment swap during combat. They could bar it entirely or create a penalty. Out of battle, you could have your rapid swapping, as in the example of the fighter switching to sorcerer for healing.

The official website already claims there's a penalty for using teleport crystals too frequently.

Just because you can find a workaround (and it's not even that good of a workaround) it doesn't make it any less stupid or unnecessary. I already pointed out how gear swapping can be killed without removing the flexibility of being able to change gear out in the field.

It does? I never saw that. I'll have to go back and look at the site again.

I was just saying though. That they could do other stuff instead of having to do a time sink, of having to walk back and forth to the house, then back to the field.

Traveling through the Aetheryte too much seems like there will be a kind of weakening effect after every travel. And over teleporting can cause "irreversable" effects.. hmm
