Most of the AH system does have a lot of greedy players in abusing it. Buying up all the stock them putting it back up for 15% more than what they bought it for. It works for stuff that isn't always on the Ah, and doesnt have many items in it.

As for the cap, I am for it like I said before, but it should be at a high cap, not a low cap. Having a Hagun selling for 3.5k and making it so that the Sams NEED them is insaine.

A better idea than a cap is to use the "tax" system that is there already, but make it be more expensive the higher the price is. For every 5k or so above or below the current price the tax gets increased by X amount.

This type of thing is in every MMORPG, no game is safe rom player run inflation, as long as it has any type of auction or shop system in it. Some games control it better then others, in many different ways.

BUT placing caps on the value of items is not the way to do it.

Or the tax could be imposed based on the sale price. Starting out, let it charge 1%, so there's a tax just for listing it, and you still lose a bit if it doesn't sell. Then when it sells, tax it again, say 3% or something. That way if someone buys your item (by accident) for 3m over the asking price, you get a large cut of that taken out by the AH. You'd still get a substantial amount of gil, but you wouldn't start your asking price up so high.

It may or may not work, not really sure. I don't really think gouging is a huge problem except every once in a while, we just hear about those instances more because we have a huge thread about pet peeves.

ah just have the NPCs sell everything, and make good gil drop from all mobs. it's always worked for the offline FFs.

and that would be an MMORPG I would not play.... it fails in free to play MMORPGs and it would fail hard in FFXIV

No, its because people wil still be greedy, and place items out of reach of "newer" players, and they will have access to only gimp gear even if they have like 5000 million or something like that.

Having ALL of the gear sold by NPCs is a REAL bad idea. But, having a decent amount of gear sold by NPCs will help the prices of items on the AH as well. Maybe even a limit of gear sold weekly like the guilds do now.

Take for example chain mail... Its a craftable item that is also sold from a Galka in Bastok Mines (If I remember correctly). On a Majority of the servers, because it is sold by a NPC, the selling price on the AH is lower than the price that the Galka is asking for. With certain gear that jobs NEED, it is a good idea, as it will put a "cap" to how much people will sell the gear. But, because it does not work for all things, like scrolls, it will not put a "cap" on all of the gear.

So, in conclusion, I say that certain pieces of gear should be sold by NPCs. Mainly the most common type of gear, not the "end game" or "special" gear.

All craftable NQ gear should be available in shops with HQ remaining crafted only (they could increase HQ rates a little if needed.)

Not only it would work to cap prices but also to help players get gear no one ever synths.

The more items listed on the AH below the price cap the higher shop prices can go. And if there's no item for sale on the AH shop prices can drop gradually until hitting a lower cap.

But, the item should only hit a certain cap though. Other wise, the prices of gear will keep rising.

Lets say for example, using what you said...

Gear on Ah: 5k. Currently: 10

Gear in shop: 7k.

Now, since you said that the more items below the current price, it will be like this...

Gear on Ah: 5k currently: 4

Gear at 2k Currently: 6

Gear in shop: 15k

So, people will know that the price of items will be lower than the current price listed on the AH. People will be able to actually tell that it is a real value. And, with that, they can actually gain some gear with little cost. But, that is only if they do check the shop prices on a regular basis.

But, if there are prices that are undercut-ted, and prices there are above the current cap, then wont the price of the shop gear be the same?

<Edit: 2> I think that S-E should higher an economist. That way, there will be no way that the economy can not be fucked up so easily by the player base. It might also help prevent greedy players from actually controlling the market place.

Dude where there's currency between live individuals, there is no way there can be a perfect economy. The only way to do this, is to not have an AH. In order to buy and sell, you'd have to do it at a vendor and you wouldn't be able to sell or trade to other players. So basicially just like in RL, there will be inflation throughout the game and all we can do is just try to be rich before the economy of the game gets bad so we won't have to worry about it. Much like the rich people of RL.

I hate most of the people who are born into being rich. Most of them are usually snobby and act like a spoiled bitch. Then, then their "daddy" takes away their alloweince, their car, and force them to get a job they complain and complain about it. Then, when they get what they want back, they complain about being "poor" when they still had millions to their names.

I just hate how some of the rich act...

But, there are people who are nice when they are born into being rich, and actually help the poor, the ones who actually NEED the help. Not the people who are actually in a home, and can live fine with out much help. But, most of the people are just... "I'll keep my big ass house with 50 bedrooms, and 35 baths, and not pay a cent to the poor because I am rich as hell and don't give a fuck!" -.-; I'm going to shut up now before I say anything else lol. Today seems like a day I like to ramble on XD
