Re: What do you plan to DO in FFXIV?
Don't know honestly, I'm actually pretty happy I started playing FFXI 7 years after it came out due to the simple fact that I didn't have to deal with all the gimp stuff before they tweaked and updated everything.
Who knows I might just wait a year or 2 before I get XIV just so SE can work on changes if any are presented at the time of release.
This sounds crazy and retarded but eh I'd rather avoid the hassle...sigpic

Re: What do you plan to DO in FFXIV?
I'm with pwn on this one, if the economy is based around the same principles again you'll want to start playing at the start otherwise after that amount of time odjn the prices are going to be so blownout it'll be a nightmare to get anything from trade or auction, things have calmed (sort of) in the economy on most servers for things but they are still consider well above there true values.
I remember the prices after a year in ffxi were so fragged it made me want to cry, a fresh player on the server reaching level 40 something just scrapping by with gil and here I needed a upgrade since I hadn't upgraded my chest piece since the 10's, pop into auction to grab a jujitsu gi and they wanted 200k gil for it, I was screaming bloody murder at the prices but since I had to upgrade from power gi I had no choice but to farm together enough crystals to buy that.
And starting at the beginning of mmorpgs is a great experience, specially in one like ffxi which focussed on group play, it meant you always had someone to play with no matter what, can't say that much for the game today.

Board games were different before the Germans got involved. Don't get me wrong, Settlers is fun, but it's hard to find people anymore for anything that isn't short and fluffy.
...What? On topic? Silly thread is silly. Nobody even knows what there will be to do in FFXIV yet, let alone whether it will somehow be varied rather than repetitive.Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

I loved that game. My family had a game that lasted three days! I still love it, but no one wants to play it after the three day game, and that was years ago. >.<

well these things could be lessened if they add price caps to every single item sold on AH. that would prevent items/gear from being sold 2-5 times their original value.
SE could also supply NPC shops as alternatives to getting gear Jobs NEED, if people are abusing the gear prices too much.

Theres many reason why SE wont do it to the game, and that is the main reason as to what I think people will say. The game's economy does not run on supply and demand, it runs more on greed of others. A game should be more fun instead of having to farm. I am all for the idea of a "maxed" amount of money you can put something up on the AH for. I hate having to farm for days upon days just to get 1 item that I will only use for a few lvls, but its a "needed" piece of gear. I just wish that people would lower the prices of stuff so that the "newer" players can get it as well, and keep the price low, but that will never happen.
Wow... Mouth full lol

Re: What do you plan to DO in FFXIV?
I didn't play MMOs or any form on online gaming outside of The Sims in college because, well, it seemed like an incredibly brilliant way to sink my grades and miss out on all those student clubs filled with women. I kept my Game Boy Color handy and was part of the closet Pokemon players on campus.
The only other real gaming I did was Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Pokemon Puzzle League and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. All mulitplayer affairs, which was perfect since there were always plenty of people around to challenge. My roommate and I could go hours and hours against each other on PPL and Goldeneye.
When Perfect Dark came around, I turned into a real bastard that would just lace areas with proxy mines sometimes even tossing them on other people so I could get two kills at once.
I'd leave my Sims running about all day on the PC. Sometimes I would come home and they had pissed and pooped themselves to sickness and death. But that was usually the basic families I build. The rest of the neighborhood was built for more interesting social experiments, like the house with the lesbian love triangle. Or the frat house and the insane survivalist that lived next door to them. I used the survivalist to dispose of any households I ended up not liking and buried their remains behind the rich familys mansion so they would be driven insane by the hauntings. There was also the tragic death of Angie's first husband, who drowned in their backyard pool because someone had deleted the ladder to get out.
So I didn't really need an MMO at the time, most gaming was a quick fix and then I had The Sims which played itself most of time. The Sims and Pokemon Silver gave me that nice persistent world fix anyway. I'd always keep the GBC on hand for Pokemon when I was DJing. Six hours of lonely graveyard shift goodness. After the math homework was done and if there weren't any PSAs to read, I'd play Pokemon. If there was a request slot that wasn't filled, I'd play Soul Coughing's "Super Bon Bon" and hop around for bit to stay awake.
I actually did get callers, but most were drunk and incoherant, so I'd just fill another request slot with something like Ben Folds Five or Squirell Nut Zippers. Or just whatever was in my backpack with me. My station sucked, they were actually trying to favor mainstream bands, so I'd deviate from that as much as I could.
I usually tell anyone I know heading to college to avoid MMOs and do student clubs. Some listen, some don't. Those that don't miss out on all the opportunities to flirt with and impress ladies. IdiotsLast edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 08-16-2009, 05:36 AM.

and yes putting capps on items would be bad idea, and no it is based on suply and demand, with just a hint of greed.-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) NPC gear must be worse then crafted or monster-obtained gear. To not follow this rule would ruin FFXI's economy, and turn it into what is essentially a single-player game with other people.
2) NPC gear must not be ultra-cheap, have it expencive enough to that it is still difficult to obtain, if only less difficult than other equipment.Originally posted by EllipsesReally, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why." Most of the AH system does have a lot of greedy players in abusing it. Buying up all the stock them putting it back up for 15% more than what they bought it for. It works for stuff that isn't always on the Ah, and doesnt have many items in it.
As for the cap, I am for it like I said before, but it should be at a high cap, not a low cap. Having a Hagun selling for 3.5k and making it so that the Sams NEED them is insaine.
A better idea than a cap is to use the "tax" system that is there already, but make it be more expensive the higher the price is. For every 5k or so above or below the current price the tax gets increased by X amount.
