    Re: So, what race? What "class?"

    Same here, I looooooove changing armor and wearing stuff that looks nice, or stuff that is rare and I get to show off by having it, that's part of the fun.

      Re: So, what race? What "class?"

      I'd like them to adhere to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) this time. You might not mind gear swapping any more than you mind random battles, but do we really need this gear-swapping business to min/max and play? I will agree with your assertion that Colibri and Utsusemi are far bigger mistakes, but I stand by my position regarding everything else.
      There's two sides to this, though.

      On one hand, sure, they could create a system that didn't require gear swaps at all. They could do set skills as they've done from FFV onward and other RPGs also do in various ways. They could just be wearing the AF and have things applied different ways.

      But on the flipside of that, characters would look less different from one another. While people complain about repetitive face models and reskinning other gear in FFXI, it still can't be denied that one character can look pretty distinguished from the next - to the point you can sometimes see who's trying harder to be the best they can. And some people like to distinguish themselves that way.

      FFXIV characters might be able to look very distinguished from the start, but I'm going to be slightly disappointed if changing weapons simply dumps a new generic armor skin on me. Plus that would be somewhat taking away from the whole blacksmithing concept, so I doubt its going to be entirely the case.

      There could be less gear to worry about to min/max and that would be nice, though. It may mean being able to switch between more professions on the fly and that would be a practical choice.

      I just like seeing characters grow and change in appearance. Too many RPG gear systems hinge on invisible equipment that doesn't change the character's appearance at all. Sure its still nice that they're customizable otherwise, but with graphics being what they are these days, its another old throwback that needs to be done away with, possibly moreso than random battles.

        I'd rather have the skill setting options of FFV or Tactics, but I agree with the aesthetics issue. SE could always put in options to customize the look of your armor (or give us more armor with customizeable stats ala ACP/Moogle/etc) to differentiate from other players. It does get rather depressing and bland seeing everyone wearing the same damn armor everywhere you go.

        I hope the armoury system works out well, I really do. I always hated how in FFXI, I could self-SC as a samurai but even with Dark Arts, magic bursting on my own skillchains just wasn't a good idea. I'll be so happy if that's all changed in XIV.

        That was the beauty of FF 5 and Tactics; you could mix and match (within limits) all the powers of the different classes but without being nearly as restrictive as it is in XI. And looking back, I think SE probably could have made XI's SJ system less restrictive without it killing game balance. I can't say that with absolute certainty but it's certainly possible?

          @BBQ: I'm not really seeing what one thing has to do with the other here. You can remove gear swaps without removing "visible" armor. I'm not saying I want The Armory to set your look in stone based purely on your job. I'm just saying that I don't want the game to allow people to swap gear for specific actions and be rewarded with greater performance.

          As for the visuals, I'm guessing your weapon determines:
          A) Your naked look and
          B) The armor you can equip.

          I'm skeptical that your look would be independent from your equipment simply because that'd be a big step backwards from XI and a very unimpressive when trying to push a next-gen MMO.

            Unless an unknown new race appears that I like better, Roegadyn crafter/gatherer/sorcerer.

            Might go Mico'te instead if they relent and allow males.

              Why is everyone having their mind set one them might allowing Mico'te males? They have only females in the races section, so
              I HIGHLY doubt that they will allow them. Just like they only have the male Galkas. They won't put in females.

                well I think they should avoid Mathematican type Jobs/skills because otherwise if you use it with whatever's the equivalent to a White Mage, this may end up being the result:

                [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AgXOG4zkSw"]YouTube - FFT- Crazy White Mage[/ame]

                that's why I think its great Jobs can't be directly subbed anymore.

                    It's simple;

                    1) I like cats

                    2) I want a male avatar. Yes, the females are awesome but I look at my avatar as a projection of myself, and therefor it needs to be male.

                      But, they won't make a male mithra just because you want a male mithra. Avatars don't have to look like you.

                      I don't really think that they should put in male mithras.

                        Why not? Not all of us want to parade around as girls. And since when does wanting an avatar represent myself have to mean it looks like myself?

                        We've been on SE's back about this for years and I'd be surprised if they didn't do it this time around.

                          Yes, but I doubt that SE will make a male mithra. If you want a male mithra, just do a .dat if you want it that badly. I prefer that they are only females as Galkas are only males.

                              Even though I know I will be playing a female, I am surprised that after all the demand for both genders of Galka and Mithra, that they pull the one gender rule again *shrugs*

                                Well Galka are technically "gender less, " they're just generally considered to be more male in nature. So I'm not too sure there should be female Galka. Ever.
