    Hume RDM of course.

Probably even the same face(-ish) model too.

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

I really like the idea of a Roegadyn from Limsa Lominsa, the whole nautical aspect really appeals to me. That said, I wonder if there will be more sea-based adventuring other than the token ferry rides we have in FFXI and seems to have been aluded to in the FFXIV trailer. As BBQ has said elsewhere, there's a bunch of us landbound corsairs. I'm also intrigued by the comment about the Hellsguard caster caste. Gives me hope they haven't made the perfect race for a specific job mistake they did in FFXI.

they said the races now have less statistical differences, so any race can main any job as effectively.

those really are the models used in-game?

they said the character creation models and in-game models won't have a big difference like last time, so this is a wonderful improvement!

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

It seems the old favorite job classes are not coming back in XIV at all. They want you to be able to mix various styles on the fly via the armory system so that you can effectively solo. This is also to emphasize each player's unique play style. So, no more WHM or PLD (according to Corinth) and this was evidently done on purpose.

So, what about other jobs that aren't so "standard" I guess, like SMN or DRG? I can see them bringing back DRG in it's old form of the lancer (no more wyvern will suck though...) but I can't for the life of me see them excluding summoner, one of the series most iconic jobs.

Uh, if the point is to avoid the iconic jobs, it would make sense to avoid the more iconic ones.

I'm pretty ambivalent. It's not the end of the world if we go one FF game without the same old avatars.

Believe the translated text on sorceror involved summoning creatures.

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

At this point I'm leaning towards Hume from the desert city. I don't like the water and nature sucks so that rules out Limsa Lominsa and Gridania. But Ul'dah, it's surrounded by sand and rock, lots and lots of it! While it's not burrowed into a mountain side, and I'll miss the smoke stacks darkening the skies, I think I can get used to a new place surrounded by barren wastelands.

Though with the way it was described, the Garleans totally seem like my kind of place. Behemoth flying warships, fire spewing guns, heavy metal warriors, totally a place I could get used to. But they're evil and we're probably not allowed to be the bad guys. =(

As for classes, I need a giant axe or a sharp dagger and I'll be set. Warrior and Thief have always been my top two classes in every game I play and this one will be no different. I don't need no stinkin magics when I can just shove an axe in your face or a knife in your spine!

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

FFXIV sounds a lot like FFXII, in my opinion, in that it's less about the world being threatened by powerful figures and beasts, but by our livelihoods being threatened by foreign and political powers. Though, the different clans and tribes reminds me of WoW.

Anywho, I'll gladly return to being Elezen, but I like the idea of being from a picturesque port town, so Limsa Lominsa it is. On the other hand, I've always been a blacksmithing guy when it comes to crafting, so beginning in a more earthy town might have it's advantages there.

Male Lalafell, becuase last time around I began my life as an Elvaan male, and turned my back on him and became a Tarutaru male. However, this all depends on the final stance on races, and with the seperate division in some, we might see female counter parts to the newer look of the Galka type and Mithra type. Excuse me, I am not yet accustomed to the names of the new races.

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

some of the Jobs are back in a different form.

take the Archer for example. they use bows like Rangers but they are going to be different.

Gladiators/Fencers use sword and shield like a WAR could, but they will have different skills and differences.

There will more than likely be Sorceror Jobs that are focused on curative magic, or destructive magic, so WHM and BLM
can be related to those. SMN may come back in some form too.

Dark Knights probably will exclusively use Scythes now, but will be called something else, I would imagine.

                          Wait wait wait.

So you're saying they're including the basic archetypes that are practically a requirement for any class-based RPG?

                          Holy shit.

Male Elvaan or Hume (whatever the equivalent is) with the closest face and hair to my own. If we can choose, I would pick the most evolved-type city... (I suppose like Sandy being the evolved one in FFXI?)

I wonder if there will be gear sets resembling traditional AF even if there wont be a job system.

I'm going to make a Roegadyn and a Moon-side Miqo'te. Dunno if the second type of Roegadyn will even playable, SE didn't say anything about their magick-based counterparts or the "dark elves" being playable yet. Either way, I'll probably skew to a Roegadyn from Eorzea's mainland anyway.

The Miqo'te would be a hunter by nature, so archery is a given for the new kitten. Actually, I'll probably pick less goofy names this time. Dunno what I'd do for the Roegadyn yet, I just like the matured look of them.
