  • So, what race? What "class?"

I think the title pretty much says it:

What race you think you're gonna play? How about what type of job? Gonna try them all? Or think you'll specialize early?

I'm thinking I'm going to be the same old Hyuran (sounds weird) Aksannyi, from the Elzen town, same as I did in Vana'diel. (Hume from Sandy!) Assuming I can choose my starting nation. Since, of course, we don't know where we'll be permitted to start from, if we can even choose!

I must say though, I'm tempted to try an Elzen, they're looking really good. Maybe I'll try to dualbox from the start, like I should have with FFXI.

As far as jobs/classes, I'm thinking whatever's close to BLM, and possibly something DPS, fuck being on the backlines all the time! Hell I mean I do love WHM but man am I sick of all the QQbitching about cures and never getting to play anything else. I guess I'll probably be more mage than melee like I've always been in every single game, but who knows.

So? What are you thinking? Still early, I know, but first impressions, what do you want to play?

I'll go with Hyur and start out in the Hyur starting city as well. But I want to see how the jobs are gonna go exactly.. I liked being a DRK but if I can't do that, i'll just go tank..

I'm hoping so hard they finally give us male cats this time. And even if they don't, since the racial stats won't be as drastically different this time I may just be a Miqo'te (Moonkeeper FTW) anyway. Failing that I can always re-create my elf, but I'd really like to be a kitty ^^

As for jobs, I definitely wanna try Archer but I'm gonna be all over Crafter & Gatherer. Get into making gil & collecting items early on before other people do and price standards are set etc. Also the pic of the sorcerer looks like a seriously pimped version of BLM AF I LOVE IT!

Hyur/Hyuran. some Fighter job that uses sword. as always the Knight jobs are probably gonna be tucked away further in.

Though if they really call the "warrior" job as Gladiator, I might choose another melee job if there is one, since Gladiators
just doesn't sound right, a gladiator is a captive that just fights to entertain people in an arena. Well in Eorzea a gladiator may as well be an escaped entertainer though that title really isn't as universal as Fencer or Warrior or something else.
then again, gladiator is based on the latin word gladius (means sword). So it's understandable. The new interview says there are a lot more jobs besides the 8 shown, though.

Ul'dah is surrounded by desert and rock (which I'm sick of from Bastok. though it really wasn't desert, was it? I'm not
even sure what kind of terrain that was because it felt more rock than desert.) though the city itself appears exotic.

Limsa Lominsa is by the water, though I don't like pirates. Will have to get a closer look though.

Gridania looks great. And chances are there will be as many Hyurs as there are Elezens and other races.
It seems a tad too dark/covered up maybe. It could use more sunlight. Not enough information.
I didn't choose Sandy back then because it was Elvaan dominant, so it didn't feel very homely.

But I may end up choosing the best looking city with the best looking city zones and the most diverse collection of
        races.

Yeah just make a character in each nation and explore the city and surrounding areas.

I just hope they let us choose where we hail from, like we did on Vana'diel. In a lot of other games you just automatically start from a certain spot based on your race. I like to be slightly unconventional!

When I read about XI and it's cities, I was lead to believe you had to start judging by your race.. that was untill I started playing and found out the shocking truth.

I'm really loving Limsa Lominsa so far, but that mountain place sounded f'ing awesome too.

Just please, let me be a male Miqo'te Moon Keeper SE... pretty please?

Maybe they're just assuming things, but unlike with XI, the official descriptions of the new "Galka" and "Mithra" don't mention them being restricted by gender so there may yet be hope...

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

these are city states, not nations dominant by a certain race, So I'm sure those 3 cities are the equivalent of the 3 cities we can choose to start in before. plus city choice would balance the city populations better.

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

I'll be picking up two characters to start with I think, haven't had time to digest all the information on these pages or in fact read half of them so my knowledge of job titles is pretty limited so I will just refer to them as their FFXI counterparts for now.

First and probably main character will be a Lalafell type, probably female and focusing on what is closest to BLM (?Warlock?) just because I loved playing BLM so much in FFXI. Seems the job system lets you make hybrid jobs so I'll be leveling a front line job too, just not decided how or what yet.

I'm still undecided about level up a Roegadyn for my front line job or if it is even really necessary given the hybrid-ness of the job mechanism. If there are alot of things like limit breaks and CoP length missions needed to access certain zones I might not bother and just take the hit in stats on my Lalafell. If there isn't (and it doesn't sound like there will be) then I will probably make one of these guys too.

I play Mages in all my games mostly so I am tempted to do the mage thing again but I'm still holding fire to see how the game pans out, trying to retire my WHM in FFXI took almost an entire year and even then I never quite got rid of it, don't want the "burden" of being a healer 4eva again in this new game.

I'll most likely be a Elezen in Limsa Lominsa or Ul'dah. As for jobs, I'll probably play most of the DD jobs or Tank. (All the cities look like they'll be huge as hell, and epic.)

Re: So, what race? What "class?"

I'll definitely be making a male Lalafell. Throughout FFXI, I've mainly been a melee class so I am very interested to focus mainly on a mage class (perhaps something closer to a Black Mage) for a change, however I will still give the melee classes a go.

If I ever decided to make a second character, I would be stumped on what race, as they all look awesome. Perhaps a Roegadyn.

"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

Going to pretty much copy what I have in FFXI, not looks though, just ideas.

Kailea the Miqo'te, job class....as close to Dragoon as I can get ;p

making a second character will depend on many things, if a mule is needed, ho crafting really will work, and if I want a male or female mule.

female would be Pyanini a Lalafell, if male it would be a Hyuran named Cyrus
