I can name numerous games you fight and jumping around or over your opponents is a good strategy. I simply say, get over it cause people are gonna jump and there's nothing you can do about it.
there is a difference in jumping over your opponent,to get behind them, and jumping around like a retarded mindless rabbit.

Like I said earlier, one movement impairing effect (something every class but Warlock has in WoW, last I played) and jumping is useless. Your jump distance becomes pitiful when you are moving at 30-50% normal speed.
Jumping is always useless in combat, it doesn't get you any farther than running and it's an extra button to push.

              Show some respect, duder.

Also, why are we arguing about having or not having a jump option? Surely there's more important game mechanics to discuss and are more relevant than whether or not you can jump! If the developers want the player to move around during combat, they will put a system in place that rewards the player for doing so - it's basic game design theory.

Maybe because it's incredibly frustrating to have to go around a 2-inch ledge because our characters are apparently too stupid to raise their legs?

So, just wondering, what does that have to do with my post?

Jumping would fix that rather stupid inconvenience. Or am I the only one who gets annoyed climbing the hills in La Theine Plateau? You asked why we're discussing it, well there's 1 reason for you.

People will abuse the jumping to all hell if there are no limitations though. So putting a "cool down timer" on it, will prevent the people from abusing it to all hell.

How exactly do you abuse an ability who's sole purpose is to navigate terrain? Especially if mob pathing will be like XI's (which I hope it isn't; WTF @ mobs being able to climb walls...)

I can briefly hang in the air for all of half a second! ZOMG TEH BROKEN!!! I R INVINCIBLEZ NAOS!!!!

This isn't Halo 3 where you can jump + melee to assasxxxxte people from the front.

People "Bunny hopping" like many people have said before. there are people who will do it, and it is REALLY fucking annoying, especially in town, and when you are trying to get into the AH, while having people causing you video lagg.

You're aware that you're letting the most inane, irrelevant crap get on your nerves right? So people start jumping up and down... good for them. Stop pissing & moaning over minute details.

I hope you realise the implementation of such a mechanic and the overall level design and game design is a much bigger factor than simply comparing it to how it is done in previous MMO's. In other words, you're all just assuming that the terrain is going to be such a problem that you need a jump mechanic, and that it is going to benefit the player during combat.

As I stated before, if the developer wanted to reward a player for moving around and jumping around during combat, then they would put in a system that did so and gave the player visual feedback for it. If the developer had any common sense and learnt from past mistakes of themselves and other developers, then they would realise that a player would need to gain no benefit from jumping around like an idiot during combat, but that is ultimately up for the developer to decide.

What my post was mainly hinting towards; this is a trivial subject, and something that even if confirmed would be still annoying as hell to discuss. Especially when you have people like Pwnagraphic resorting to such disrespectful posts. Pwnagraphic: IT'S ONE SMALL MECHANIC THAT HASN'T EVEN BEEN ANNOUNCED, NO NEED TO BE A DOUCHE ABOUT IT.

As a side note, don't get me wrong I am not for or against jumping. If anything, Aion just proves that even though you have flying, gliding and jumping, it does not break the immersion of the game or the suspension of disbelief (such as you guys are stating; bunny hopping, jumping around like a lunatic in combat, etc.). Would you like to know why? Because ultimately the level/terrain design is better, gliding is much more efficient and is still in the world of belief within Aion's world (not to mention a lot more fun to do than just running or jumping), and combat is too involving to even consider jumping around. I am not here to promote Aion, I just think the reference is relevant.

So, basically Malacite, your reason for discussing this is trivial and on the verge of stupidity.
