I would rather they leave Jumping to DRG's and also give it a real-world application, not just combat. It's kinda silly that the job that can jump 50+ feet into the air can't do so to get around faster wouldn't you think?

Yeah, if that were the case they might as well just shut down the entire game now, players are gonna abuse pretty much everything.

I just didn't like not being able to jump off an edge or jump over a tree stump. I didn't feel like I was free lol.

that is going a little overboard maybe?

there's a difference between abuse like RMT being done elsewhere that you are not even aware of,
compared to witnessing people everywhere, in every town, in every party, jumping again and again just to travel faster or other silly reasons.

Why even have animations at all? maybe everyone should just slide along the ground, and just shoot laser beams instead of
wielding weapons. And turn into floating pineapples at night that have nonstop car alarm type sounds.

That wouldn't bother anyone, it wouldn't bother you, would it? Nothing bothers you, right?

Yo I never said I wanted them to add jump. Just that i'd be able to jump over a hill . It's better than having to walk around it's just dumb.

There's so many other things to argue about that ruins the game, but jumping is the top of the list lol.

Yeah it is silly that jumping is at the top of the list more most, but there is a reason, you may not think it, but trust me, there are many like us, that find it annoying as hell, so annoying that we complain about it here, as we do.

The only 2 things that annoy me about jumping are the "rabbit morons" and the "jumper fighters" easy fix to remove both.

Jumping is limited to once every 15 seconds, and when in combat, you can not jump, unless you are a "Dragoon" (or what ever they will call it)

This would allow for people to use it for getting around stuff, and keep the main two problems adding jump generates at the same time.

If it was implemented this way, or in a similar manner, I would welcome it fully.

Was mostly sarcasm, but I don't know. I'm just thinking about the general FFXI population, and yeah, there's retards, but early in the game will determine how people treat certain things like jumping. I bet you any amount of money if the JPs got the game before we did, there would be no random town jumping. I don't see the JPs using that in such a way. And possibly the fact that the servers will be mixed again (not confirmed, is it?) might contribute to less of this so-called jump abusing. People might not want to look like asses amongst other cultures.

This has dissipated some over the time since FFXI started, but who knows?

I think it will be a useful aspect of the game if it's added. I mean look at FFXI. If XIV is similar in nature, with a fairly steep learning curve and challenges, you won't see a lot of the droolling retards who make jumping their character's main sport.

I think the community will make a difference in how such mechanics are used. I mean just look at FFXI shouts in Whitegate, and WoW chat in Trade channel. Miles of difference there. If FFXI players were given jump, it might be really popular for two weeks after it's released, but it will wear shortly, same as the dancing.

You musta been a Tauren Warrior in WoW. I was a rogue and I jumped circles around warriors all the time cause I had to do it not to get hit. It was strategic.. Jumping didn't help with ranged or spell attacks on you, nor did it help when an enemy was attacking you. It helped in PvP cause they lose line of sight. But the good thing is, EVERYONE can do it.

It may annoy you, and just cause it annoys you, it shouldn't be added but the game doesn't revolve around you being annoyed by it either. Setting a limit on it is a dumb idea.. get real. And people will find something else to abuse if it's not jumping it'll be something else and everyone will bitch about that and then we have endless bitching about retarded things.. i.e. Jumping.. Hardly anyone on my server (Smolderthorn) jumped around pointlessly. Sometimes it's boring to just run a straightline so you tap the jump, then tap it again..

well lol we might be arguing about something that may have been dismissed the moment the developers have started talking about jumping. why should we argue about something that's not confirmed to be included? whew. feel better now.

Around these parts it's a good idea to actually back up your arguments. Unless you're me, I can make math posts and not back them up and people will buy them, but I've only done that once.

"Let's not worry about what's exploitable, because they'll always find at least one thing to exploit." Not a very compelling argument. I mean, I'm not saying jumping would be broken or anything but that doesn't make it any less of a ridiculous thing to say.

FFXIV might be aiming for a military-like approach.

Somewhere it's said the opening of FFXIV is about a time after a war when airships and other scary weapons has forced the people to establish peace and alliances before everything gets destroyed.
The soldiers involved in that war ended up with nothing to do. And so Guilds were formed to put their skills to constructive use, calling themselves "adventurers" and stuff like that. it's also said that an outside force is threatening Eorzea (probably monster/demon type enemies), so that's more than likely the new enemy they will face/are facing.

I feel the black uniforms shown in the scans are what everyone starts with.

                            http://www.eorzeapedia.com/wp-conten...08/up14983.jpg

Or they might be Guild specific uniforms when we start out as Cadets/beginners.
what is a uniform? A uniform is an identifying outfit or style of dress worn by the members of a given profession, organization, or rank.

It's unique considering the first FF mmorpg didn't try this approach, and it matches the story of FFXIV which sounds like it starts off with jobless soldiers and mercenaries searching for a way of life.

Of course there will be variety of clothes and armor and stuff, but people wearing the same thing, makes it feel like they
are part of the same force, the same alliance, and stuff like that. Even though the different Job they take will lead
to different looking gear, I don't mind people wearing similiar stuff. It kind of reminds me of Garden, except very different in it's purpose and other things yet to be discovered.

As for the Guilds themselves, there might be at least 3 (one for each city), so I think that's where we might get
story Missions and other things besides Guild Reeves/Leaves (those cards that people can combine to create quests
such a eliminating monsters, getting rid of pests for people, and improving their skills.) from the Guilds.

                            http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/n...ady/ff14-2.jpg

what I would like though, is that not all Guilds are the same in their flavor. like one Guild may be more mercenary type,
another Guild might be directly associated to the kingdom's military,
and another Guild may be a union of religious type peacekeepers.

This would provide more variety and styles.

So if people prefer to stand out and look different and do things their way instead of being told what to do all the time, they could join the 'mercenary' guild.

If people want to serve the crown/royal family, they would join the 'knights' guild. ( I always wanted that in a FF mmorpg! )

if others desire a guild that is based on religious beliefs and principles, they would join the 'cult' guild.

It really would elevate FFXIV with more available options than just having the mercenary option.
We may start out as an adventurer but that doesn't mean all of the Guilds should treat us that way throughout our career.

as for the knights and cults guild. I think joining a Guild like that is like joining a family. And wearing the same
type of armor, or clothes when doing our missions and quests, makes us and the other members feel like one force,
                            one unit.

                            =====

FFXI and other MMORPGs' approach were largely disorganized and barbaric in comparison.
FFXIV should provide something different that will cause more people to continue to cooperate with each other.

It would be nice if at least one of FFXIV's Guilds
encourages unity and symbolizes an organized group of members far greater than a motley bunch of rogues.
Maybe different Guilds would have different types of Reeves/Leaves available. or Missions and repeatable special quests/events that benefit not only the player, but also the Region and their Guild as well.

One way would be upon joining a Guild of that nature, after the player gains enough skill and prestige to earn themselves
a place among the common ranks, they would be granted standard weapon and equipment based on their Job.

                            http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/n...er-298x300.jpg

I think something like that is hinted, because if you see the armor

                            http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/n...dm_2fcab29.jpg

                            http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/n...em_55500a4.jpg

both Hyurans, the Roegadyn and female Elzen are wearing the same silver armor. This brings up a theory that Guilds
have a more personal connection with the player than just a house where you just pick up your quest rewards. :p
Of course, that armor looks like Fighter class armor. So of course Sorcerors, Gatherers and Crafters of the same guild would be given something else. I'm not saying all Jobs should always wear the same thing. Though Guilds have a
lot of potential to be rewarding and more meaningful if they work in some ways I mentioned, yet there is a lot more to this than what I said.

depending on how the Guilds work, it could create an optional new experience for those that want to be a part of
                            something greater and more unified.

YES SOMEONE MAY ARGUE WITH SOMETHING LIKE:

"A major point in any MMORPG is making your character "unique". Your character is supposed to be one of many "heroes" who is or eventually becomes like a special tool of the military/whatever fighting force they're affiliated with in said MMORPG. The perks of being that hero usually means you dress different and are treated with respect. If you want to identify with whatever guild you choose to join, a guild tabard/cape/something that's an accessory should suffice. At least to most people that is."

But that point of view is only one side of the spectrum.

there is the other side of the spectrum of mmorpgs in general. A frontier and role rarely played so loyally and passionately outside of RPing.

Many people are sick of just getting the dirty dog jobs of mercenary life. and mercenary/"adventurer" life in general.

Why can't we join the kingdom's knights/military officially and actively do missions and related to that organization and
do things that would help our region in different ways (not just affect the region story-wise, but also gameplay wise.)

Why must we try to get quests and rewards only from NPCs that don't even think of us as one of their own?

"Just another adventurer." that's all how mmorpgs have treated us.

hmmm. at least "another soldier or knight of the kingdom" would have a nice ring to it. But it wouldn't mean anything if the mmorpg doesn't actively allow us to make a career out of it instead of just some "glorified title".

Why must we be alone in all of this? Everyone is doing their own thing because there's nothing that brings them together
                            more meaningfully besides skill ups/growth/money.

Yea there are those who don't care, but there are those who do want to be a part of an organization
built in-game that brings people together and constantly has them do missions together as as unified force. Not as a
band of mercenaries, but as a part of something greater. Be it knights of the crown, members of a secret clan, etc. etc. without depending on linkshell-type deals to try to find and consistently work with like-minded comrades!!!!!!

But see something like a linkshell is small scale compared to a Guild/organization in the actual world that exists in the
world, rewards its members, rewards a more persistently cooperative and organized force, AND success affects the organization and the region around them. All state of the art mmorpgs I've seen lack that. Yea some have nation conquest points, campaigns and such but that is not a true organization. That's just an open buffet.

that's why I brought up the 3 different Guild examples so that people who don't care about this, would just join the
Guild catered for mercenaries. But the other Guilds should provide something entirely different than what we're used to in mmorpgs/rpgs in general.

It would be phenomenol if FFXIV addresses the lack of a truley organized faction/organization/guild that acts more disciplined and unified in an mmorpg. Because a well designed official organization built into the region's system, has more meaningful potential than anything people can organize in their own guild/linkshell/clan. Of course if such a thing is not there, we can
