Re: witness the first in-game screenshots! party! zones!

Yes jumping on WoW was nice, for getting a round stuff and traval, and even goofing off wiht friends... but in combat it was a total crap fest, and annoying as hell.

It is a lot nicer to jump over shit instead of having to go around it. (Those damn fences in La Theine are a good example of something annoying to get hung up on)
I can see where you are coming from. I get hung up on little shit all the time, and having issues getting around stuff liek that. But, they should have your character automatically jump over stuff, not just stop there, or just keep walking forward into the fence. But, they shouldn't allow you to jump 50 thousand times in1o minutes, even in a fight, its annoying.

It's silly as hell but it's fun to do. So what's the big deal? You might think it's ridiculous, then don't do it. Don't try to insult people who find it to be fun just because you don't like it.
I'm not trying to insult anyone. I am just saying from my experiences from who a lot of the people are that do a lot of bunny hopping shit in town. I don't think there is a point in it. You may think its fun, but others don't. Its all opinionated.

Maybe they will limit it somehow, like "You must wait longer to perform that action" but without the message, just a hidden wait time or delay on it. Hit jump, now you have to wait 15 seconds before you can again. Or something.

hey maybe besides /blist ing what people say in text chat,

maybe there could be an advanced blist option to make an annoying person visually and physically invisible like a ghost? so even if you run into them, you wouldn't stop, they would be no different than air. their jumping and annoying attempts would be eliminated .

ya I bought up the 2 hour jump restriction idea a few pages ago I think. I think 1 jump every 2 hours would balance and prevent the abuse.

Do I think there's a point to it? No, but it's fun, I'll admit that. The first time I jumped in WoW I giggled like an idiot simply because I could. Jumping was such a novelty to me. Do I jump like a jackass all the time? No, and I'd say most really don't. I don't see a problem with jumping during battle to avoid certain moves (even basic games like Super Mario Bros had you jumping to avoid bullets), but I think maybe it should be given a delay for sure, so that if you're in battle, you have to use your jump strategically with some bosses. And that could make things a bit more interesting even.

Some people just like to spam jump, they don't bother me, but I guess that's just me.

Two hours is a bit extreme. Maybe a minute between jumps or something, or even 30 seconds, but two hours? That would really suck in some zones. x.x

Even I think 2 hours for a jump would be too long.

Having the option to jump IS nice, but being able to spamm it isn't. Its nice to jump over stuff, but jumping in place isn't. Being able to jump across a cliff is nice, jumping in place....

Having a 10-15 sec recast will prevent bunny hopping, and will still allow people to jump over the damn invisible walls lol

Even basic games like Asteroids had you flying around in spaceships.

Why doesn't FFXI have space ships?

Uh. SMB is kind of a platformer. Jumping is kind of the whole point.

Contrast MMORPGs where jumping has mostly no point.

I'm going to need much, much more than minor terrain annoyances, the majority of which can be effortlessly sidestepped and the rest can still be sidestepped easily, and a blatant ignorance and/or acceptance of the GIFT on your part, to convince me that jumping a la WOW would be worthwhile.

well I still think FFXIV should have a /megablist option in case there is jumping, so at least we can't see the whackos.

If jumping is such a big deal, because you want to overcome certain obstacles I guess SE could simply implement a way that you can jump over things that require jumping. Other than that I see no point in it.

Hmm, there are plenty of strategic reasons to allow jumping. Instead of just going side to side to avoid something, I can go up to avoid it. Maybe a mob you are kiting suddenly gains a speed boost. Jump up and let it go under you instead of it charging into you. Maybe a mob does some low attack with its tail and the only way to avoid "flail" (lol) is to jump.

Maybe there's terrain to consider during a huge battle. There's even potential for really cool jumping attacks - attacks which get more power when you're in the air, and they require you to actually hit the "jump" button/command to perform them.

Why is it that if it's an MMO, it's not viable? People who can't jump can be written off as idiots, it's like the best idiot test out there. You can't jump up and avoid this attack? You're incompetent, go be someone else's burden.

Going around some shit that I can't jump over is annoying. In a game like FFXI where it takes for-fucking-ever to get anywhere, I'd love to be able to jump over that little mound in Konstacht Highlands instead of taking the time to go around it, and some of these things you have to go around aren't just little sidesteps, but fences or mini-cliffs which actually take more than a step to go around.

I do think it could add an entirely different level to an MMO, instead of constantly being ground-bound. If it's done right, of course. If it's just a movement mechanic then it's probably going to be stupid - albeit really useful on its own just for movement - but I'd love to see jumping become an actual battle tactic.

It can be done. I didn't do a lot of raids in WoW but I can't assume that jumping was never used in any boss fights as a means for avoiding attacks or possibly hitting higher weak spots of a mob, something. It's not going to ruin the game. It can make the game a lot more interesting.

It'd be messed up if there was a tank that jumped, then lost all his hate....and then....Bam! Mages 1 shotted. Then too there might not even be tanks in the new game, or Jumping may not cause enmity loss, or maybe there won't be any enmity.

Back on the topic I could do without jumping in the game.

Sure, jumping can be a strategic element in combat, if it's a more action oriented game (ala Kingdom Hearts)

But it probably won't be, and it would probably be very clunky to shove jumping into any FF game's battle system, unless FF14 is an even more radical (read: real time twitch based) departure from the rest of the series than the last decade has been.
