yes, it is. It's bad enough that nobody even tries to roleplay in FFXI.

If people go around acting like asstards all the time, it would hurt the world, and thus my enjoyment of it.

People playing a game and jumping around ruins the games integrity? lawl..
Try and PVP someone in WoW, and see how annoying and stupid it gets, when your opponent is jumping around you like a crazy retard.

Jumping like that ruins the feel of a game, that why i siad add jumping, but make it disabled in combat.

I don't remember) paying others to level their characters, buying currency.. and hopping around is such a bother to you all? lol
Power leveling yourself doesn't bother me, people paying for their gil, does, as they don't even deserve to play the game, if they aren't going to work for their items, training mobs, Kill stealing, thats all fine and dandy to me.

But when you get people who are immature, and bunny hop all over the place, that pisses me off. I don't want to log into town, and start lagging as soon as I log in because hundreds of people are bunny hopping in a single area, and don't give a fuck who they are fucking up. I have a high speed internet connection, but bunny hopping really does fuck up any connection.

I don't mind jumping, as long as its automatic. Like jumping over obstacles, or leaping across a ridge if you run into it like Zelda. But givne the people the option to bunny hop. Then its just really stupid as people will abuse it, and it will turn into WoW, with people bunny hopping. Try running through aht Urgan with the lag the way it is now in Besieged with people bunny hopping. Do you know how much lagg you would get? It will probably be like that if they allow it in FFXIV.

Jumping is for the win. Being able to jump means being free to explore wherever the hell you want and not running into magic invisible walls or 6 inch INVINCIBLE ROCKS OF IMPASSABILITY.

I certainly hope they keep jumping to a minimum, and even better if they keep it context based (as in "Press X in this spot right here to jump over there with a cool jumping animation, Mr. Kennedy") in and outside battles.

Or simply give the player the option to disable the jump emote if it serves no other purpose.

The sad truth is.. the world is full of "asstards" man.. and a lot of them happen to play MMO's.

nah I get it now. You like to RP in your MMO's. Even in a RP realm, there's still people ruining the integrity of the MMO itself. `

No, that's a result of good level design. It's perfectly possible to have a game with jumping, where the jump is nearly or completely impossible, even when it looks like it shouldn't be hard. Anyone who has played a platformer should remember one of these.

Not really, actually. I prefer it when the MMO is so robust that you don't have to RP intentionally in order to stay in character.

that would not help at all. 99% of jumpers like to jump endlessly when they are not fighting.

I would rather have it the other way around if they are crazy enough to add jumping to begin with.

Jumping only during combat, that way they can be kicked when the party finds out who the retard is.

Though the best option is not allow jumping.

                        Immature?

                        For jumping?

Jesus tittyfucking christ. Maturity has nothing to do with it. It's hurting nothing. I have never lagged because someone was jumping, and I believe I gave a good reason for you to be lagging in cities that has little to nothing to do with jumping.

So hitting my spacebar when I'm standing still waiting for someone to finish what they're doing is immature?

                        Jumping.

                        Immature.

I'm really not seeing a correlation here.

                        Jumping.

                        Immaturity.

Nope. I've got nothing. You're saying people are being immature because they want to jump? In a game that allows it?

People worry way too fucking much about what others are doing. I guarantee that other people jumping is not causing your lag. You may think it is because you stopped lagging when the jumping people left, but guess what, that also means their character model isn't on your screen anymore, either, so there you go. If people jumping is really hurting your enjoyment of a game, which people do to have fun, then seriously, I just don't know what to say.

People jump during PvP battles ... so? They don't want to die. Jumping is the only fucking way I can avoid certain death in some fights. It's a mechanic of the game. Jumping is another way to avoid attacks, to avoid obstacles, and even to move forward. I get stuck on shit, I jump, and voila, I'm not stuck anymore.

                        Jesus, immature? For jumping.

People cried to high heaven when /dance1 - /dance4 were added, too, and look at this, it didn't even affect your gameplay that much at all.

Re: witness the first in-game screenshots! party! zones!

people don't ever jump during a melee fight like they do in mmorpgs that allow it.

                          [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dURNAFRTsVw"]YouTube - Excalibur (1981) - Siege of Camelyarde[/ame]

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC5FIyfI8TA"]YouTube - Some long sword fencing pieces after Danzig & Ringeck[/ame]

it may be a mechanic for WoW, but it's so unrestricted that people abuse it in town and other situations where they have no business using it. This is the type of thing asshats would love to annoy people with who can't ignore such idiocy.

if anything FFXIV should only allow vaulting instead. you hold a button, and if you collide with a stone or lower/higher elevation of land they can leap over, you will Vault/leap over it. That way, it isn't some jump they can do anytime anywhere, just for the spots where they would normally get stuck at.

I dont recall what game it was, but it did have a vault feature where you just hold a button and it automatically vaults
over any low obstacle and uneven terrain. and no it wasn't a FPS.

                            Real life allows jumping.

Try jumping all over the place out there and count how many people are not giving you strange looks.

Wow... I really hit a sore spot with a small post...

When I see over 90% of a town jumping, it looks really stupid IMO. I'm walking through, and lagg is heavy in certain areas because of it, and other areas, it isn't as laggy because no one is jumping there.

Its only really annoying when people spam the damn thing. I see it being spammed, and I can't filter movments, but I can filter emotes on the screen. I don't want to watch some one jump up and down, up and down, up and down non stop while I am trying to check the AH, or send stuff to people who I am trying to help out or some other such.

FFXI has filters for the emotes, and I don't mind that. Seeing people use the dane motions is rare as well. Not many people do it. I don't mind watching people do it either. but when you have some one jumping infront and behind your character, and its fucking with your camera, or hiding your character, it gets really distracting, and really annoying.

<edit> I have found out that a lot of people who do bunny hopping are 10-13 year olds who have nothing better to do with their time. Even a few older people who just want to hop around town going in circles. Whats the point in it? Just to try and casue visual lagg for others?

And comparing real life to a game almost always fails.

I can see where those who are not used to WoW or don't like it can say, "OMG all they do is jump and it's silly and annoying," but it's just part of the game culture. I don't really even notice it or care if people are jumping around me. At first it did strike me as kind of a novelty but it wore off, and it just became a part of the game that I really appreciated. It is a lot nicer to jump over shit instead of having to go around it. (Those damn fences in La Theine are a good example of something annoying to get hung up on)

It was certainly more useful than not. When I was playing FFXI after I started playing WoW, it actually did bug the shit out of me that I couldn't jump in FFXI.

@Takelli, you're calling a HUGE population of games immature for jumping when it's part of a game mechanic. It's not an immaturity thing at all, it's just fun. Yes, jumping is kinda fun. It's silly as hell but it's fun to do. So what's the big deal? You might think it's ridiculous, then don't do it. Don't try to insult people who find it to be fun just because you don't like it.

And I still don't think that was contributing to your lag. I never had any lagging problems in WoW and this laptop is the biggest pile of shit to ever run a game. In fact, I lagged a lot more in FFXI with all effects turned off and at really quite low settings, than I ever did in WoW with everything turned on. If you were lagging I don't think jumping was the culprit, honestly. The character just being on your screen is doing a lot more to lag you than them jumping on it instead of just running.
