Re: witness the first in-game screenshots! party! zones!

I'm not seeing the "FFXI remake" thing.

Land is land is land. It's all gonna look alike. I've been to seven different countries, 20 different states within this country. Shit looks basically the same everywhere. (Except Kuwait and Iraq, but fuck those hellholes.) What I'm saying is, don't expect major terrain differences. The world of FFXI is pretty realistic looking, and in reality, there are a few things that look pretty much the same everywhere.

WoW stretches the world a bit, things are colored differently or a bit more fantasy-ish, but look at Final Fantasy games as a whole. FFX, for example. Most of those places looked pretty damn similar to the real life world. The architecture was different, understandably, but grass was green and trees were tall and the sky was fucking blue.

Dude are you serious? When XI came out I got it the day of release at its peak with thousands of PS2 players and had to play on dialup and had minimal to no lag.. If you're getting lag from people doing a normal action in the game from jumping.. then you'll get the same lag from someone emoting or walking in general. I think you should probly upgrade your internet if you lag when people "bunny hop" lol. I played WoW on wireless and never had that problem and I had a shitty wireless B router that barely reached my room. You should maybe invest in fiber optic internet or something man..

I would say aloow Jumping, because it does help get around some palces... BUT disable it in battle.

Re: witness the first in-game screenshots! party! zones!

There is one thing about a jump that is a gameplay issue, where emotes aren't-- a jump that's more than a stationary up-and-down emote would require raising the character positionally. It shouldn't cause any significant delay, but it's not quite as simple as running an animation.

Personally, I say only allow jumping if you have some sort of character fatigue system. Like other games have for actions like running/sprinting (see GTA, NMH). Maybe you should be able to jump or climb over a fence. But if you keep jumping up and down in the middle of town, you'd better the fuck get sore legs. Or at least, have it take quite a bit of exercise to get to that point, and quite a bit more to maintain it.

I'd rather have environmental detection with context jumping to perform attacks and special tactics in battle but disabled outside of it.

And I'd love to see something resembling the Ryu ga Gotoku's battle system and it's transition between combat and non-combat modes.

That's pretty much what I said. I never said I wanted to jump around like I was listening to the song..

Jumping should only be a 2 hour. That would avoid any bunny nonsense.

If I would attribute city lag to anything in WoW, it would be the fact that everyone can (and does) use their mount in town, and some even bring out their pets. That's a lot of character models. Jumping almost anywhere else never really seemed to contribute that much to lag. I'd say that people on mounts (which I do love, by the way, fuck running around slow in town) is the bigger factor, considering each character is now using two models.

Don't count out random spell casting. People casting spells all at once and shit.. Even then I got little to no lag like I said on crappy wireless.

All of a sudden, everyone around you starts to jump up and down, with no apparent cause.

They do this endlessly, none of them getting tired.

Let me explain this with a parable.

Last week, Feba went to his friendly neighborhood library. While he was quietly minding his own business, reading some books, he started to hear strange grunts and moans coming from one of the nearby tables. As he had frequently seen handicapped persons there in the past, he assumed that it was a retarded child. He later went to put the books away and find more to read, and as he walked past the desk, noticed that the sounds had in fact come from a teenage boy playing World of Warcraft on his laptop, with headphones on. He decided that his previous assumption had been accurate enough.

I don't know why jumping bothers so many people, it's not really hurting anything. Is it silly? Perhaps, but so is the notion of riding a giant bird when you think about it. And it may be silly, but I'll be the first to admit that it's retardedly fun. Also, being able to jump over shit instead of going around it is kinda nice.

If you want to go to the mall and jump around endlessly.. go ahead. Honestly, I would find that quite amusing and funny and probly join along with it.

There's a lot of things people do ingame and in real life that are annoying.. As we all do.. so.. get over it and move on. Is it killing you to see 3 people hopping around? Do you wake up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat screaming cause you got the image of people jumping around in your head??
