You're kidding yourself if you don't think FFXIV was created in the mould of FFXI. I'm willing to live with it if the actual gameplay is different. Because all in all, the characters and races in FFXI are pretty damn cool.

Hopefully, SE announces something mind blowing, but we will have to wait and see. Nothing about the races in FFXIV screams new, but then again that Galka type Roegadyn have no tail >.> haha...

And, they were the only race where in the description magic was mentioned. If you were thinking FFXI would you really think magic with them?

I'm thinking there will be more differences than they have shown us. They just have to draw it out for a year, so they're going slow, and starting with the familiar.

Creating something in the same mold is implying that the two are almost identical. The races are the same, and, from what we've seen, some of the areas are similar to areas from FFXI. Yet, the games are by no means created from the same mold. From everything else we've seen, we can assume life in the world of Eorzea will be drastically different than life in Vana'diel.

Though, in S-E's defense, it is an FF tradition to borrow elements from previous installments, so on the one hand, it could be argued that XIV's racial selection is just an extension of that tradition. On the other hand, it could be argued that they went from "borrow" to "carbon copy."

I would have rather seen them use the Ivalice (FFTA/FFXII/FFTA2) races - even if they had to nerf Gria so they can't actually fly. For one thing, just the fact that it would be different from FFXI would be good (and there are 7 races instead of 5, so more variety). For another, Seeq would have gotten people to shut up about how ugly Galka are. :D But the main reason: OMG PLAYABLE MOOGLES. (I still feel that's one of the cool things about FFTA and FFTA2.)

But oh well - races are usually primarily graphics anyway. It's the gameplay that will really determine whether or not I want to spend time on FFXIV.

the problem with moogles is that their bodies don't really work for visible equipment. well ya in FFXII they wore clothes, but I think Moogles would trump Lalafell in popularity, hence one reason why Moogles won't be a selectable race.

We're talking about a FF game here where almost every game is similar to the previous one. Aside from recurring names, characters, etc.. But if you look at any game especially games that have different names and stories, they're the same game as before with hardly anything different.

CoD, KZ2, Socoms, MMO's, Quakes, Dooms, and FF's.. Just a few types of games that look the same play the same and only a few things have changed. Every game is molded after another game in some way or fashion. They took FFXI and improved it, changing the game but not changing it completely to where they made all new characters.

So basicially what I am trying to say is, the game is molded from FF to an extent but we don't really know much more about the actually game and how itll compare to XI till we play it.

Should hopefully be hearing some news on FFXIV in the next day or two. GamesCom starts tomorrow and FFXIV is one of the featured games.

A lot of rumours on Beta starting in September already, but I somewhat doubt it will be that soon. Here's to hoping though!
