What 'most MMORPGS' are you talking about? "Most MMORPGS Kailea has played"? Most MMORPGS Feba has played don't have consumable arrows, or if they do, arrows are a very common drop, to the point where they are effectively free.

This is still an incredible wrong view. I won't bother trying to explain how you're clearly thinking of FFXI, as this is just as bad.

When we first started playing FFXI, many of us formed assumptions about it based on previous experience. Previous experience with MMOs (WoW players especially), previous experience with FF. Most of us were smacked out of those assumptions, whether by numerous "Hi Newb" threads warning people not to expect what they were used to here, or by FFXI going "No, I don't work that way, kid.".

Why then should we assume that we can make accurate assumptions about how FFXIV works? If previous knowledge of MMOs is largely useless to FFXI, why should previous knowledge of MMOs be useful in the next one?

Why should we even assume that bows in FF14 are anything like the ones we are accustomed to? Is there anything saying that they don't shoot magic which has been condensed into a form which needs to be physically moved? Or why shouldn't we assume that magic draws the arrow back to the bow automatically, allowing you to use your single powerful arrow over and over again? That's certainly more plausible than the boomerang problem, as pointed out by Armando above.

Based on my previous MMO experience, I could assume that FFXIV will have a lot of things. But they would all be very much baseless assumptions.

      ... meh...

It sure looks purdy but ... dont' know if I want another MMO to play. Lotta people talking like this is FFxi 2.0 or something. Seems entirely different in many varrying ways that we're really only tossing guesses at...in ways that make me think I'll be disappointed if I over-anticipate this title.

I am looking forward to seeing how FFxiv turns out upon release and thereafter; but, I'm proly sticking with FFxi for a while... I still have loads of content still to explore, fascinate, and frustrate me for the time being.

idk... just my thoughts after reading over several of the forums on it.

bows/guns with infinite ammo is like Magic with infinite MP, it just makes things too simple.
Same could be said of melee weapons. Inside the game world, both are simply means of attacking.

              Re: New FFXIV Info!

There is an example of a hard to get piece of equipment that breaks in FFXI. 10,000 Moat Carp hard to get. And if you or your friend(s) don't have the skill to repair it if you do manage to break it? There is this NPC that will do it for you in Rabao. Now breaking it and having him fix it will give you a cool title, but they put Irmilant in the game to fix your Lu Shang if it busted and you couldn't fix it. The parts might be a little spendy, but so is the rod in the first place.

I'm sure that if they do have degradable equipment in the game, they will have either multiple ways to fix them (like the fishing rods), or they will be easy enough to replace that it won't matter.

                  Re: New FFXIV Info!

For the brief time that Yonin was broken, I actually didn't mind tanking so much on NIN as all I had to worry about was the fight. Not my wallet, not my inventory, just focus on keeping hate and making the mob dead. There are plenty of ways to make a game challenging and interesting without artificial limitations (money being chief among them)

Did having unlimited ninjutsu make the fights any easier? Not in the least. All it did was allow me to focus directly on the battles. I don't think jobs like BLM should get unlimited MP per say (being a free resource to begin with and a very powerful one at that) but I do hope mages are a lot more self-sufficient this time around.

The only game tha tI can think of that had "free" arrows was Guild Wars. You had an unlimited supply of arrows, and you cna just stand in the back hitting "1" for barrage non stop with a bow that gave you energy every time an arrow struck a foe.

Even warriors where able to sit back, and shoot foes with arrows for free as they had unlimited ammo. But there was no armor degradation in the game.

Having unlimited ammo was actually quite fun though. You didn't have to worry about running low on arrows, and after an hour of doing a mission, you could come back and get like 5 Platnum, and none of that actually went into getting new arrows.

But, if the game does have armor that will take damage, then the bows should not use arrows, as it will make up for players not having to pay to up keep their bows. But if their bows do take damage, then arrows should be free, or atleast beable to get your arrows back from a mob. Every arrow shot has like a 35% chance of getting it back?

Sorry Malacite I fail to see where the amount of tools in your inventory makes you think less of the battle you are fighting.

Did you bring enough? Then focus on the task at hand. Didn't you bring enough? That is kind of like a PLD forgetting his shield, it makes the job to be mindful of resources.

unlimited ammo would make combat boring for rangers. they'll just macro-shoot and just sit there, not needing to count how many arrows they have left.

using a ranged weapon has less animations and attack variety than swinging a melee weapon, that's for sure.

It will not always make it boring. There could be different abilities they could use with their bows.

Like, if the enchanter is what I think it is going to be...

The Enchanter enchants the bow with a Poison, or soemthing like that, and the Ranger uses barrage into a bunch of guys, and poisons an entire group of monsters. But thats only if Ranger, and Enchanter will work like I think they will.

Or, Rangers could be like they are in Guild Wars. Where they can select different abilities instead of just sit there, and unload a bunch of arrows into the enemy.

                            oh, ok.

So it's better to have a melee job that just clicks attack and then goes AFK than a class that has to press attack every few seconds.

Boring game design is boring game design. bows having ammo has nothing to do with it.

How are the two even remotely the same? Keeping track of tools & ammo is just another hassle on the player that doesn't even really add any difficulty to a fight until you begin to run out. At the very least would it have killed SE to give us a macro command that checks our remaining supplies?

Idk about you but I find it very distractinghaving to stop paying attention to the fight to make sure I'm not running out of ammo/tools and then pause to pop a tool bag... (though thankfully at least that much can be macrod)

It's an unnecessary distraction to me. Yes, OK there is a legit argument about having brought enough supplies to a fight but that still bugs the hell out of me. BRD and COR get to buff parties for free but does anyone complain about that? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Can you imagine the shit-fit people would throw if they had to use MP or items?

Honestly.. It really isn't that big of a bother. It's just like makin sure you have enough of anything in your inventory.. Food, Ninja tools, etc.. just designate a few slots to ammo only and stock up before you go out.
