Re: What you don't want to see in FFXIV...

12-15k/hr just isn't good enough for most.
    I don't know about that.

The best nonstatic pickup parties I have seen average in that 12k-15k/hr range, and that's with optimal conditions of no one else pulling the mobs we want. LS parties tend to be just a tad bit better, at the 14k-16k mark.

Although there was one rather exceptional party I had, Cor, Brd, 4x Drg, no clue how long it lasted but I got quite a bit of exp out of it and was the only merit party where I saw a chain reach 100s, let alone consistently reach that high, but as I said, that was the exception.

So for say, people wanting to get a buffer after Dynamis/Limbus/Einherjar/whatever, who are part of big LS who can toss together some people to form optimal merit parties, maybe they do feel like they can do better and it's not worthwhile. For the rest of us though, and especially during primetime when ToAU camps tend to be crowded, the WoTG merit camps seem an attractive alternative.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

      FTFY.

I tend to think that half of all exp/hr numbers posted online are inflated for epeen value, but even aside from that, average geared players aren't going to see 20k/hr anyway.

Just to be clear, I would definitely not like to see the most exploitable mob families repeatedly massacred for *any* system that rewards killing them repetitively, whether it is called experience points or something else. But there really isn't enough information on the game system yet to say with any confidence whether FFXIV will be able to control that kind of "these are the best camps" mentality.

        tl;dr

Are we talking about merits here? If so then 20k/hour is pretty standard for merit parties even with "average" gear. If you can't even do that then there's something wrong either with the PT composition or people are being really freaking cheap on their gear (vanilla equip)

          Thank you.

Running all the way to Xarc/Beau [s] to get 12k/hr is just not worth it.

Re: What you don't want to see in FFXIV...

Something I don't want to see in FFXIV:

            - Bard. Or Corsair/Gambler as a buffer.
            - Also, manabattery magic.

I'd like to see the buffs spread around all the classes this time, rather than be dependent on two or three classes for this stuff. There are plenty of ways that could be invented to restore MP, I don't think it has to come exclusively from a spell or song.

If there must be a bard class, at least let me write my own songs and don't make me so awesome that I'm wanted to the point I'm no longer treated like a player, but an item. Tone them down next time.

Re: What you don't want to see in FFXIV...

Well, Bards have no melee ability (Well they do, but players treat them as if they don't, just like Rdm...), and all tha they want is their buff because Cors the only other job tht can actually buff as well as Brd.

Yes, Job specific AoE "Buffs" will be nice this time around.

But something I would like to see though is... A way to make your own magic... Like Poison + Water = Poisonus Water: Deals water damage as well as poisons the foe.

Leveling off weapon usuage and such kinda reminds me of Oblivion...I wonder if that's how you lvl ur Toon. use weapon and it skills up and you lvl when it caps out or something?

You're always going to get this in MMOs so I'd discard the notion that FFXIV is going to be any different. If you don't take my word for it just read the Armoury information on the FFXIV site:

Even today, he woke at dawn to spend the daylight hours drilling relentlessly on the tiny wildlife outside of town.
He bids farewell to the rodents and worms...
It may not be an experience points bar in the classic sense but your armour and weapons will no doubt evolve based on a number of kills on EP or above level monsters.

                    No, and here's why;

The armoury system would just add even more hassle than what's necessary for buffing a PT. It's bad enough carrying a tonne of instruments without having to switch between jobs mid-battle just to apply buffs.

You don't know if it's feasable to change jobs constantly in combat. BLU certainly can't change spells on a whim. The downtime is only 1 minute but 1 minute matters a lot in an EXP party.

Obviously there has to be some limitation in place to prevent me from being Tank/Healer/Nuker/Buffer/Pet Job all at the same time.

In the other MMOs I've played, people were never psychologically bound to the notion of EXPing off the same weak mob if that camp was full of other of other parties.

                        Solution?

We went somewhere else. Might get less, EXP, might get more considering you had practically no competition depending upon the alternatives you chose.

In FFXI, the obsession with Safe Play is so extreme that only on the most "efficient" and closest camps are the ones they'll go to. It doesn't matter if there's an alternative, they usually won't take it.

I have only ever seen this happen in FFXI.

I don't think it's this notion of "safety" as much as it's "let's not waste our time going to some shitty camp where we know we can't even come close to the same xp/hr." And before people even call me elitist or any other host of not-so-kind nicknames, these are your typical pick up xp parties that don't want to go anywhere but birds.

                            Exactly, safety.

Confidence in the notion that you're going to make better use of your time/effort by being here rather than there.

By safety, though, I'm thinking "less likelihood that we're gonna die," not "not taking chances/making changes."

Like I said earlier, I would rather go somewhere risky and have fun than stay in one place and be bored, even if it does mean less EXP. Heck, sometimes the risk IS the fun, which is why I like PvP. I guess I'm just a minority with this type of thinking though.
