Re: What you don't want to see in FFXIV...

if we did not have attack and Defense listed in our menus, we would only be adding it up manually anyway -.-

ATT and DEF are a visual representation of our stats and gear calculated together.

if FFXIV did not have it, then this would occur alot "hey whats your defense" "one sec let me grab my calculator"

What if the game doesnt run on stats like Str, Dex, Agi and the such?

GW does it, and its fine. The gear, and skills that they use make the character. You can't even see your damage out put until you actually start attacking. Theres no Str, Dex, Agi, or anything like that. All their is, is your Weapon Dmg (12-21, or something like that, and Pre-Requsists (Archery skill-9).

Theres a French MMORPG out there that does it too, I can't think of the name. Each weapon has a skill "Slot" in the character info. The higher the skill level, the more damage, the higher the Acc. Your skill lvl IS your damage, and your ACC. Your Armor level IS your defense, and so on.

        - Being forced to group to accomplish stuff in the game.

        - Level grind like in FFXI!

That is actually one of the main things that FFXI makes it different from other MMORPGS.

Most of them make the character of "super hero" status, and you can kill stuff 15+ lvls of your current lvl.

Well.. stats have a big picture in MMO's whether you gain XP or not. Str, Dex, and Agil, all help do more damage and take damage, so I doubt they'll be going that route. I never played GW though.. I didn't know they did it like that. That's kinda gay and pointless to have Armor unless the armors just for defense huh?

Well, with the armor system, you where able to "Upgrade" the armor (All armor is crafted, and it is exclusive for that character.), and put stats on it like Hp, Energy, Dmg mitigation, "Skill" additions, and the like. It was a REALLY good system, as the only expensive armor was the armor that was used mainly for looks, but almost all armor was used. Each set could only be used by one class, and only by the person that made it.

It gets really in depth, but it can take a while to explain the entire system.

But... IMO. It was a REALLY good armor system that they had in the game.

See that's how I thought the Armor and weapon system would be. Since we don't level, we gain upgrades to upgrade our stats so only thing that really levels up is your stats. Just a guess though.

They neve said there wont be "levels", just not based on experiance. So, you can still level, just not based off an exp number.

But, I haven't seen a game that wasn't based off a hard number exp, so... its gonna be interesting when they release the game. It will be nice to see it.

Don't bother, FF2's system was pretty ridiculous.

The best way to raise HP was to turn your characters against each other. Bonus points if you use nukes, you'll raise MP too!

I liked how FF2s system was. The more you took damage, the more Hp. More you used magic, the more Mp. The more magical damage, more Mag Def. It would be nice, but it will be pretty rediculas if they did do it like that.

If being a hermit is your thing, you're better off playing offline games. Eventually, you will encounter content that is not soloable whatsoever because the social dynamic is kind of the point to an MMORPG. Even with all the solo hype of WoW, you need people for the high-end raids.

And all RPGs will have a EXP grind or skill grind of some form. Its the nature of the beast, if you don't like RPG elements, don't play RPGs. But then, even action games these days entail some level of griding to acquire skills.

Even with no EXP in FFXIV, you still will have to master weapons and I'm sure there will be some amount of time spent with each in order to get all the skills a job can get from them, which may even require obtaining different versions of that weapon.

The only thing I don't want to see is mindless grinding. If they actually made leveling interesting, I wouldn't mind sitting it a party for 5 hours.
