I can see facebook for family or friends keeping in touch.

But twitter and myspace are still diseases.

Seriously, you can't tell me you don't feel a twinge of pity for someone when they tell you they have a myspace page.

They're all the same to me.. I think you can express your personality more on myspace though. Instead of explaining about me, I let my picks do the talking and whatever's on my front page :-D

In the end facebook and myspace are just profiles for self expression and friends.. Twitter's dumb though I don't like it.

But for the record, Twitter is another way of getting notified for the beta.. think about the beta damn it!!!111oneexclamation

I just find myspace to be obnoxious. Yeah, its a watering hole for musicians, just like Deviant Art is a place for artist.

Still most myspace pages are horrid to look upon and the poor designs and implementations made by particular users makes them take a bit to load.

Twitter doesn't have any structural problems, it's just the same goddamn-idiots-on-my-internet community that gives it a bad reputation, but as long as you ignore the public feed and don't put idiots on your list, it's a very useful tool.

I'm frequently tweaking my following list to get only the content I want. Some of the people I consistently get information and entertainment from (have been in my list for a while, and strongly recommend) include:

1) nytimeskristof - Nicholas Kristof, NYT columnist, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, lots of updates on world events
2) GregMitch - Greg Mitchell, Editor of 'Editor and Publisher' magazine and author of nine books, latest 'Why Obama Won.' Lots of good political/world news.
3) glenngreenwald - Glenn Greenwald, Salon, Government hypocrisy type of stuff
4) JohnPiper - John Piper, Pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis. I'm a Christian, so I get thought-provoking theological stuff here
5) StephenAtHome - Steven Colbert. Always good for a laugh. Pretty frequent updates.

Regarding FFXIV_Beta, they don't have many updates (only 11 so far), but the ones they have aren't too bad. They're not cluttering my home page with useless garbage updates, so I'll probably keep following, but I have my doubts as to whether or not they'll actually be "first" at getting news to me on a sign-up (if there even is one!).
