Heres something else that kinda explains a few other things about XIV..

The September 2009 edition of Famitsu Wave has released in Japan sporting a DVD containing an eight-minute segment on Final Fantasy XIV. A lot of new information has come out of the DVD and we've got it for you.

Eorza is the name of a region that's the main setting of the game and as a full world, Vana'diel (from Final Fantasy XI) is naturally a little bigger. The actual world the game takes place in is called Haiderin. The style of Haiderin will be different from Vana'diel, aiming for a "high-fantasy" style setting. They want the setting to be more modern in comparison to Final Fantasy XI's more middle-age setting. There will be advanced technology in the world, as you've clearly seen from the skyships in the trailer.

The races in Final Fantasy XIV will bring on a familiar look. However, the races of Final Fantasy XI are being reimagined. The Galka-looking character you've seen in the trailer, will not be called a Galka, but something else. Other changes will be in order as well.

Final Fantasy XIV revolves around character growth. There will be no experience points or leveling system this time around, and a new system will come in to play. Square Enix wants to deliver an experience where new players have the freedom to try out any quest and many different things, growing naturally from their experiences. A deep story will be in tact in Final Fantasy XIV, including cut-scenes, but they're going beyond that by also delivering a wider variety of stories and quests. They want players to enjoy the process of character growth.

Jobs were the lasting appeal of Final Fantasy XI. They want to utilize that concept, but stack more on top of it. The focus will be on weapons, determining how you play, grow, and fight. They'll be expanding upon the basic job system. He says this also explains the Final Fantasy XIV logo, which features weapons sticking out of the name.

The main idea for Final Fantasy XIV is to provide freedom of growth through the variety of quests offered. However, players can meet up with friends and set off on adventure or they can play solo. Players won't be left with nothing to do, bored.

Square Enix is considering large scale battles, however, regular battles will be against single enemies. During quests you can gather parties and fight against multiple foes.

The game's music is going to be composed entirely by Uematsu.

"This will be a Final Fantasy that brings the setting to a whole new world that you can experience with the new friends you will meet." Nobuaki Komoto, director of Final Fantasy XIV said. "I welcome you to join us in the world of Final Fantasy XIV and hope you enjoy your time there."

"You can trust that we plan to create a world of new possibilities that redefine the MMO. I hope you're looking forward to everything we have in store."

According to Square Enix, there's a secret message hidden in the trailer. Finally, you can watch the actual interview below.

Oh yeah we all know.. I actually copied that from somewhere else and it said at the top "We all may already know all of this but here you go anyway." I just forgot to copy that half.

Meh. Does that mean S-E has failed to come up with a battle system that is significantly more multiple-target friendly? I mean, from a Final Fantasy perspective, it was like I read "Sure, you'll still get to fight nine pirates. But don't expect four-imp encounters, even in a full party."

As for the "character growth," I am left wondering. That post has done nothing other than exacerbate the fact that there are so many questions about that left unanswered. I can't even ask any of them because the lack of perspective in how this system works could potentially make any of my questions moot or invalid; they are Schrodinger questions, if you will.

The way I read this is, when you solo its one vs one, but when your doing a quest with a party, you will be going at it party vs party

If I remember correctly, didn't the first interviews say that the focus was going to be on "many vs. many and many vs. one" battles? I mean, I'd be all for it if it were "many vs. many and one vs. one," but that's not how I recall it . . .

A: I cannot say too much, but we hope to have battles that are many vs. many and many vs. one.
So there it is. Seems the first "many" is referring to player-based parties, then. Which brings up the logical conclusion that there is still going to be a strong base in party-play, similar to FFXI; just with less ostracizing solo play from the word go (like the FoV system we have now).

                        So... Party fighting will be 6 on 1 like its always been, and there will be battles like BCNMs, and Dynamis type... Thats... The same as FFXI! O.o;

In FFXI multiple generally means 3 mobs.

And in FFXI you don't fight mobs simultaneously unless there's no other choice. First you try to Sleepga all of them, then you try kiting, then you try supertanking and when all else fails then you split people up.

Hopefully FFXIV will be less fail at multi-target battles and actually have its abilities designed with the possibility of multiple mobs in mind.

Well, yea, but I was saying though. That the way that they said it can sound as if it will be played as FFXI with 6 on 1. Not like 6 on 10 (wich would be so win) in normal party.

"Regular battles will be against a single enemy", that usually means people fight one foe at a time. And a "Regular" battle in FFXI is 6 Vs 1.

"During quests you can gather parties and fight against multiple foes." The quests that they are talking about, we have yet to know what it is. But my guess is that it will be like a BCNM fight, where you do have 3-5 monsters at a time, and you need to pick them of one by one, while sleeping the others. Or it will be like Dynamis, Beseiged, and Campaign, where is like 30 PCs on like 50 beastmen or more.

But as we have yet to get any useful information... We will have to just watch though. Its just what I think that is what they mean.

The questions is.. are they aiming for a WoW like game totally??? EQ, and FFXI needed parties to XP. WoW was a game that you could EASILY solo to max level in.. I just hope they don;t immitate WoW too much cause I liked the way FFXI felt compared to WoW.

Well. They did say that they want it so that it isn't a "WoW Clone". But, they want easier solo play. Having it easier to solo is GREAT, but it will take away the team play, and make it more like WoW solo. But, its SE, and they have made many great games, offline, and online, and I think that they can actually get it to work so that it will require you to have party, and have team work, while allowing you to solo at a "Decent' rate of "exp" (Or whatever it is that they are using.) gain.
