There has to be a better way to handle that without having 30 AFK characters just outside a main city.
    There is.

Let us turn our moghouses into shops if we so desire, maybe even give a us little NPC shopkeeper or moogle and let us spend gilz in customizing their outfits. Turning your MH into a shop will let anyone come into it. You can access these shops by a new feature when you leave your MH, instead of going outside or something, there'll be an option called go shopping or some such thing. If you click on that, you get a list of various moghouses to go to as well as a little description of each one. This'll be exactly like the search comments.

Possibly have it Go Shopping > choose from guild or HELM activity (woodworking, weaving, etc) > search comments to pick where you want to go.

No new zones needed, and probably just needs some minor tweaks to the current systems in place. Give the shopkeeper a new block of 80 inventory space, or however much, to hold stuff for selling. Only holds stuff with a price attached to it however.

Though I do sense a potential abuse of 999,999,999.99 gil items in the shops, but if the shop is also listed by name then you can avoid that particular person if you so desire. Also let's you avoid buying from certain people if you want to as well.

That's pretty much the exact system PSU used. You could buy a "furniture kit" to open up a shop in you're own private room. And then using a computer in your room you could hop from shop to shop trying to find specific items and such. People could name their shops and write a small description to try and lure people in, while players had the options to search for things by name, item, price, "rarity" so forth and so on. Any time someone bought an item, the money would pool in your PM's (think of a moogle, only robotic and loli) inventory where you could pick it up any time you came home. A simple concept like that is the best way to do it imo.

Robotic and loli has me both intrigued and horrified at the same time. I like the thought of the shopkeeper holding onto your gil.

The thing I like best about the idea is that it let's you find and keep tabs of someone who specializes in a particular thing. So if, let's say TGM, liked to make various leathers (dhalmel, tiger, etc) and if you used those alot, you'd kinda know who to go to.

Ohh, maybe even have a little bulletin board in the shop, where people can leave requests for items to be made. I wonder if you could set something up so that you leave your gil with a NPC who will hold onto it until the item is delivered to you, or X amount of time has passed. Then you leave your order and gil with the NPC, and the crafter can give the item to the NPC and get the gil. I think something like that could potentially open up some possibilities for ordering items from people. Eliminates having to be face to face for the transactions at anyrate.

That would be very nice, but redundant with the current system.

Not to mention checking bazaars outside Jeuno (one at a time) can be very slow and annoying. And if you add loading times to it you'll have a recipe for even more annoyance. So in that context the current AH system is a much better option in my opinion, just needs to get rid of the listing limitations (7 items at a time is just...)

Now, maybe if AHs were replaced/fused with these shops (with PS3 times and broadband loading) on XIV it could work much better. You could check an AH kinda thing to compare prices and check existences, and from there have the option to either purchase it right away or visit the player's customized shop.

But those shops would be a town feature which would just be an AH +1 kinda thing.

Bazaars are a different subject altogether and their only single saving grace is portability, but that's about it. The point of Bazaars is being able to set shop in areas where AHs don't exist or are too inconvenient to reach, while also overcoming the (also incredibly inconvenient) AH listing limitations.

So speaking about Bazaars, AH and player shops I'd probably opt for a complete merge of them all.

            An Online System.

Where players would'nt set physical shops but instead would submit their items to the AH+ then customers would be able to check said sites and either buy directly from the AH just going by price or visit the shop's customized site.

All of this accesible from anywhere in the world via the players "iPalmCrystal portable... thing!" Or something. And delivered to you on the spot thank to the teleport moogle delivery system.

Vyuru that is a great idea I could see stuff like that for farmed items too. You know how npcs run out of supplies in guilds like iron ore in the black smith guild. Maybe they could have jobs that do that and I could easily seeing quest and fame system linking to something like that.

And for all you kiddies headed for college, this is why you make sure to reread your papers before you give 'em to your teacher.

Yeah, I thought I had written that I'd also have some system to check the various player shops, probably similar to the way the AH let's you check stuff, that'd list price and quantity and all that good stuff. This shop system is meant to be accessed from town and not the field though. My view of bazaars being personal shops, and while I don't see any reason NOT to have an outdoor bazaar I tend to view them as being in towns or some other centralized location, kinda like Rolanmart was.

I also don't know if I'd have access from all cities, or just where your moghouse is located. I could see arguments for and against it though.

I like this, though dunno if I'd do it. Good idea and all it's just not quite my style. I love the ideas that come up though when people start wondering how'd magic and stuff affect life, and could totally see this working

regular drops should have 100% drop rate and should sell for a lot in NPC shops like FFXII's drops. :p

I don't trust player driven economies. they are just dominated by the few like in real life, and the rest suffer.

I've never "suffered" in FFXI. Sure, the elite few are richer than I could ever possibly hope to be but considering the fact that I can have good gear doing absolutely no work at all (e.g. spamming Royal Jelly BCNM40) I would say I live a very comfortable virtual lifestyle.

Seriously though I was just thinking another nice change in XIV that also ties in to my crating suggestion is useable furniture. I'd like the decor in my mog house to be for more than just show. Like, if I want I can make my elvaan sit down for some tea or just throw myself onto my bed and rest up >.>b

As for the aforementioned tie-in, they could change the rewards from guild points this time from a stupid, overly expensive +1 skill item to actual tools for making stuff you can place inside your mog house, thus allowing you to synth from inside your home.

Yeah I know, not everyone is keen on not being able to synth anywhere, anytime but people can adapt.

As opposed to centrally run economies, which aren't controlled, abused, or exploited by anyone.

I'm for communism as much as the next Taru, but you gotta have some perspective. It's people that're evil, not the economy.

There's nothing wrong with an in game economy.

It's a matter of how much influence gil has, which IMO is too much in XI.

Agreed, I don't see anything wrong with a player run economy as long as the pieces of gear I want are available through Campaign Notes-like system.

see? it's a chain reaction. we can't excuse the economy itself when it's that very freedom that gave way to corruption and imbalance.

Prices need to have reasonable caps.

People shouldn't need to put up their items for AH, instead, they should SELL those items directly to the AH,
and automatically receive the gil based on their value and rarity.

and the AH would in turn have those items for sale for whoever wants to buy them.

a controlled system like that would prevent timesinks waiting to make money, and prevent people from abusing the system with overpriced items and cheating people.
