  • Re: E3 Square Enix Press Conference about FFXIV

Well I don't think they really care if they piss off a few people when it comes to them making money. They've pretty much proven that already.

            This x10000000000.

Their customer service is so bad it's amazing anyone gives them any money. If I'd have known before I started I probably wouldn't have.

Phantasy Star Universe's comes to mind for one.

You'll also need to get gil or farm items to expand your gobbie bag...again more play time. More play time = more $$ in their pockets /sigh
On the other hand, no other modern MMO allows this and I'd imagine SE has paid attention. The only reason you can still do it in FFXI is because removing it would be a massive nerf to all players.

I personally rather like the gear swapping thing. Not only does it make the game unique, but it gives you a lot of optimization options and allows you to fill different roles even over the course of one fight. No other game really does that.

mmm maybe allow gear swapping in FFXIV, but in a limited degree in battle.... like

cant change weapon while in combat (can do this in FFXI but you lose TP) and can only change things like earrings rings and necklaces during battle.

With the sole exception of Nintendo, every other kind of customer service of any kind for any product or company has sucked ass.

Sony customer service will try to pin the blame on you somehow.

Bethesda will just tell you not to take full advantage of their ambitious game design to get around the crashes.

Time Warner Cable's technical support has been frequently trumped by actions made on my own. I have no real technical expertise. I just throw shit together and poke around. 20 minutes of that usually gets me better results than 30 minutes on the phone with these goobers.

Most other companies will kick you between India and the Philippines for a good 15-20 minutes before you can get help, then lie to you and say they're based in Florida somewhere.

Customer Service everywhere pretty much sucks.

                          (Missed this earlier)

They could go a long way in improving their CS if they'd just answer simple questions: "Why was I banned?" "Why was I charged twice this month?" "Can you assist me with the cancellation of my account?"

Also, random LM-17 because of credit card issues is sloppy. They could have created a different message instead of freaking out a bunch of people into believing they were banned. They also could have handled the initial chargeback situation better.

Hell, they could even GET A FUCKING TOLL FREE NUMBER. My dad's house still gets no cell phone service, and I had to call from there once, when I was living there for a few months. My dad was pissed. Their hours are horrible, as well. People get hacked on Friday night, they have to wait until Monday to get their shit taken care of. For a service which we are able to access 24/7, we should have service that we can access 24/7. GMs don't cut it, either, so don't even give me that. They have no fucking clue how the game works. I mean I don't expect GMs to be able to give me formulas for accuracy or fSTR or any of that shit (hell I don't even know how all of that shit works, that's what I have wiki for) but it would be nice if they know that Despot is in Ru'Aun gardens and how it spawns, and why it's pretty fucked that some other LS bot claimed it when it flashed yellow for a millisecond.

Perhaps it's my time spent at endgame which has me jaded, or perhaps I'm just getting older. Or both, whatever. But the service I get from SE is much less than what I expect when I make service calls. When I called recently about my temp ban, it took a transfer to three different reps before one would tell me the reason for the LM-17, and that it wasn't related to the previous credit card chargeback issue. Why should I have to get three different reps to answer one simple question? I pushed the correct button in the phone queue (If you are calling about an LM-17 error message, please press 3), so why were these people so ill-informed?

I've dealt with plenty of customer service reps, and I've worked as one. SE is the worst I've dealt with so far.

thats why I mentioned only swapping things like rings and earrings/neclaces, you dont blink when you change those things (that is if we even blink anymore in FFXIV)

well another problem is alot of people ask things customer support cant help with...

"Why was I banned?" customer support wont know that -.- you have to ask a GM.
GM and customer support are two different departments. Yes they should be one, but in FFXI they are not.

now on the other hand "Why was I charged twice this month?" and "Can you assist me with the cancellation of my account?"
even though canceling your account is so friken easy, I don't see why people need to have assistance with this.....

The point was more along the lines that you don't make money if you turn people away from subscribing to your game because they noticed it still has FFXI's flawed mechanics. They're starting a new game from scratch, so it costs them nothing to fix the mistakes they made in FFXI right from the start, just by coming up with a better design before they get to work. It's in their best interests to do so if they want the game to fare well, especially if they're trying to sell it on a PS3.

It's not terribly hard to imagine alternatives to the gear swap system. If they don't do something about it, they're really just trying to sell the game through nothing more than its name and flashy next-gen graphics.

Well at least the interface probably won't suck ass this time.
